One of my favorite death metal bands. Great discography. 1. Annihilation of the Wicked 2. Those Whom the Gods Detest 3. Ithyphallic 4. In Their Darkened Shrines 5. Vile Nilotic Rites 6. What Should Not Be Unearthed 7. Black Seeds of Vengeance 8. Among the Catacombs of Nephren-Ka 9. At the Gate of Sethu
A several years ago i used to be a stagehand at a festival in Belgium. Nile was the headliner at one of the side stages . The roadcrew came very early in the afternoon to prepare the backline for the band. After offloading the truck, building the drum riser, plugging in al wire's, sound check and socialising (between local and road crew) I was impressed about the professional and friendly attitude of these guys. I remember it was extremely hot that day and it costs us a lot of sweat to clear that job in time. The crowd in the marquee start screaming already while I was wondering when the band showed up from their dressing room to the backstage. It was until I heard the noise from the intro trough the speakers, I realised the road crew and the band were actually the same guys. I'm totally not a fan of Death Metal, so maybe I was the only one there who didn't recognised the band members but I can tell you I never saw a humble bunch like this before on a stage. It was at least 40 degrees in that tent but the band gave the audience what they came for. After the show from one and a half hour, these men came drenched from their sweat off stage to help packing and loading their instruments and amplifiers. I felt embarrassed when the whole band came to us to say thanks and goodbye before they went back to the artists backstage for a well deserved shower. Respect !!!
As an extreme metal fan with one big toe dipped in 70’s - 2000’s progressive rock, this video just warms the cockles of my heart. Fantastic video, Pete!
Big fan of the band here. I still remember when I heard The Blessed Dead for the first time. That was something out of this world. I also had the chance to see then live at Tuska Festival in 2008. That was a brutal set, no speeches, just pure crush fest. Like you, I don't have really any too big differences between albums. My top 4 is pretty much the crème de la crème but the final five was very hard to put in order, so it is what it is and may change day to day. But this is today's list: 9) At the Gate of Sethu 8) Those Whom the Gods Detest 7) What Should Not Be Unearthed 6) Amongst the Catacombs of Nephren-Ka 5) Vile Nilotic Rites 4) Ithyphallic 3) Black Seeds of Vengeance 2) Annihilation of the Wicked 1) In Their Darkened Shrines
I've always been a fan, but don't know the complete catalog enough to rank them. "In Their Darkened Shrines" is the one I know the best, and it's great!
An iconic band in their sphere, their Egyptian based imagery and lyrics is something I love as well. For me it's less about albums I dislike at the bottom and more that they are albums that I listen to a lot less over time. 1. Those Whom the Gods Detest 2. Annihilation of the Wicked 3. Vile Nilotic Rites 4. Amongst the Catacombs of Nephren-Ka 5. What Should Not Be Unearthed 6. Ithyphalic 7. Black Seeds of Vengeance 8. At The Gate of Sethu 9. In Their Darkened Shrines TWTGD was the album that got me into Nile and remains my personal favourite. The title track has a great intro that I adore. My favourite overall Nile track though is "Evil To Cast Out Evil" off WSNBU. Love the riffs and the solo section is fantastic, an instant favourite track upon hearing it the first time. Nile can be a difficult band to get into, but can be very rewarding once you get into them.
In order of preference: In their darkened shrines Annihilation of the wicked Black seeds of vengeance Those whom the gods detest Among the catacombs of nephren ka Ithyphallic Vile nilotic rites What should not be unearthed At the gate of sethu
Killer technical death metal for the thinking man lol! Very complex matetial that is very dense and not for the faint of heart if just getting into death metal ! I only own about half the catalog at this point though. 1 Those Whom the Gods Detest 2 Annhilation of the Wicked 3 In Their Darkened Shrines 4 What Should not be Unearthed 5 At the Gates of Sethu Need to grab the rest soon
Annihilation of the Wicked is really one of the best extreme metal albums I have ever listened to. It is so good that I kinda forget to listen to their other albums, and even they are amazing.
Bit Nile fan! Although, I haven't had enough time with their catalog to give a ranking just yet. When you guys were talking about other extreme bands at the end, one I would have mentioned would have been Cattle Decapitation. Travis Ryan is a beast of a vocalist, and Dave McGraw is another insane drummer.
First of all thanks for this video. I haven't heard all Nile albums - they take a lot of spins before you GET them - but so far these are my favorites: 1 Black seeds of vengeance 2 In their darkened shrines 3 The annihilation of the wicked 4 Amongst the catacombs of nephren-ka 5 Those whom the gods detest 6 Ithyphalic ...
First heard Nile about 20 years ago on a Relapse records sampler, which I still have. Been a fan ever since. Always liked how they wove in a little bit of Lovecraft lore into the ancient Egypt themes.
I never knew Nile until last year when Spotify recommended Vile Nilotic Rites and it's a blast! The title song got me on their hook at once. If what you say is true, that the other LPs are even better, then whoa.
I don't know the full discography super well. But before watching, will say the first record Amongst the Catacombs of Nephren-Ka is my favorite, nothing else I hear seems to top it. I just find it more immediate, catchy and keeps me coming back.
1) Annihilation of the Wicked 2) In Their Darkened Shrines 3) Black Seeds of Vengeance 4) Amongst the Catacombs of Nephren-Ka 5) Those Whom the Gods Detest 6) What Should Not Be Unearthed 7) Vile Nilotic Rites 8) Ithyphallic 9) At the Gate of Sethu
Nile is definitely a grower band but once you travel to the pyramids you never go back. Another band that is amazing that needs more recognition is ENSLAVED. 70s prog mixed with Norwegian black and folk metal. They have a massive discography and are going stronger than ever.
1. Annihilation Of the Wicked (a near perfect record) 2. For Whom The Gods Detest 3. In Their Darkened Shrines 4. Black Seeds of Vengeance 5. What Should Not Be Unearthed 6. Vile Nilotic Rites 7. Saw Nile at a probably 300 person venue. was up front, thinking I would avoid the pit, oh no. Got slammed in the front monitors a few times. On that bill was Terrorizer. Awesome show. Annihilation Of The Wicked is Amazing, as is Black Seeds. Those Who The Gods Detest is great as well. My Top 3
Great band! Their best stuff was from 98-05. I haven’t really followed them since then cuz I felt Ithiphallyc was a letdown. Perhaps I should catch up on the rest of their discography.

Death metal is just full of that. Bands with sterling discographies. Death, I would say, pretty much had one. Morbid Angel has what some would call missteps, but from having listened to most of their catalogue (Illud not having listened to, yet), the only one I would sort of question is Kingdoms. For my money, Amon Amarth is great, too.
So I'm a *huge* power, thrash, and "traditional" metal fan; I'm also into classic rock and, somewhat embarrassingly, 80's pop. That said, there are two death metal bands I really enjoy, one being Sweden's Unleashed and the other being the feature band here, Nile. I don't know what it is about these two specific death metal bands--maybe the fact that the music, despite being brutal as heck, is infused with melody or maybe the nerdiness of the suject matter--but I can't get enough of 'em.
Ithyphallic was a grower indeed but so good. It harkens back to Festivals of atonement which I have a major soft spot for. After that I stopped listening. It became a bit samey to me. But I'll rectify that. Favourite album is Black seeds of vengeance.

Love Nile. The 10-year-old in me laughs at Ithyphallic "This album was a little more of a grower"
My type of humor! :)

Fantastic video. Really enjoyed it. You can't go wrong with any Nile album.
Thanks for this! Nile - what a great band! Saw them in Tuska Festival here in Finland in 2008. Amazing gig it was... Cheers!
Nile are an amazing band. Thanks for this, well worth watching. I happened to watch this while wearing my What Should Not Be Unearthed hoodie.

Catacombs, blacks seeds, darkened shrines and annihilation are stone cold classics.
Shrines for me. They got the blend of atmosphere, brutality, and EPIC just right there.
Tony their drummer from in their darkened shrines is now drum tech for Megadeth just some trivia lol
the drumming on that album is beyond insane.
I’ve seen Nile a 3 times, first was at Dynamo festival ‘99. Always crushing!
Rameses Bringer of War blew me away in 1997 and I've been a Nile fan ever since.
