I got the Starkey Genesis AI RIC RT. I got the custom molded ear pieces made and have them in. After about two days, I started to get a clicking sound everytime I chewed in my left ear. I told the audiologist, he had me come in and took out the custom ear pieces and instead put in the rubber ear pieces. The custom ear pieces were the best fit, as I can feel when they are in. The rubber ear pieces are hard to tell if they are inserted correctly. I have tinnitus really loud ringing. Very nice video. Thanks What's next for me. First time user, 72 yrs old. Glad I came across you article.

My 85 year old mother has the custom one. She struggles putting it into her ear and the safety ringing doesnt stop. So she stops using it. Now im gonna try a normal dome for her

Custom ear molds can be made that allow the receiver to be replaced without sending it in. The receiver is not embedded but rather inserted into a cavity that's lined with a thin layer of soft material that seals the receiver inside the mold, but allows the receiver to be easily removed and replaced.

I switched to custom ear molds about a year ago and I think I like them better. It does take a little more effort to install and remove and it is a little less comfortable sometimes. They are very secure and won’t fall out. I also think they are more consistent. The depth in the ear never varies. When programmed with real ear measurements you know you are getting your accurate prescription all the time.

Its somewhat complicated if you have a M&RIE receiver with respect to venting and feedback. The ratio of length to diameter of the vent must be calculated carefully to achieve the best results if a moulded style is required. Also occlusion can be a big issue the more closed the dome is. In the end sometimes its a compromise. A video on this same topic would be good but focussing on M&RIE as this is such a great innovation and technology that it deserves some focus in its own right.

Good video. One thing I wish was touched on was for those people with frequent ear infections/pain and which one may be better for those situations as I seem to be an accidental troublemaker at my ENT/Audiologist. 😢

Hey Blake cool channel...its nice to know that there is a channel like this one. I was diagnosed with moderate to severe hearing loss at 34 years old its like 80% in one ear and 20% in the other..iv been wearing regular smal hearing aids behind the ear with a mold. I used to think the quality of the hearing aid is very bad because i still struggle with low frequency sounds, sometimes everything just sounds unatural, and i take them out if im in a place with lots of people and very noisy..yes domes can actually make things sound more natural clear but like the Doc mentioned tons of feedback and i use a headsets for work so the feedback can be bad. But latley ive just been streaming from the hearing aid, i just dislike having to carry around an adapter whoch loses battery in a few hours.

The problem I am having is the custom mold HURTS and then it has to be remade again and again, can I replace a custom dome with a rubber dome on the Oticon intent hearing aids? If so which domes will fit??

I have very narrow middle ear canals (both ears) so the ordinary moulds just fall out. I would like custom moulds because I think they will stay in and not fall out. Can you tell me where I could find out where to buy them. I live in Lincolnshire in the UK. Thank you

Cleaning. You don’t give any advice on cleaning the custom ear device.
