As a 3 year veteran at Target electronics I relate to this on such a deep level, you had me in tears. The song that bugged the most was Paul McCartney's Wonderful Christmas time. It's the worst, nearly drove me to the brink of insanity

OMG! Those cringy covers. My dad used to buy alot of those CDs and play them so loud on his radio and it's not just Christmas songs, but the current fad of pop songs during that time.
And I literally hate almost all the songs they play incessantly and am thankful the shit is done when it's finally done.

My condolances for the poor souls having to deal with this hell for real.
I quit working for walmart just before Christmas. I couldn't take the music anymore. Add in entitled customers who are mad that we are sold out of ps5s and think anything popular would be in stock a week before christmas made me want to murder them. This is why you shop on or before black friday for christmas gifts. I will forever have in my file as the reason i quit was Christmas Music. May the executive who thought it was a good idea to have 7 christmas songs on loop have his gifts replaced with soft dog shit. The ones from hell that when you attempt to scoop up just smear everywhere. Made by chihuahuas. May all of the gifts he got his kids be one upped by relatives or an exact present that the kid already opened that was given by the relative so the kid is disappointed. May he be stuck in bumper to bumper traffic that is stop and go every 3 seconds and moving at a snails pace and he's a hour away from his destination when there is no traffic and it extends past his exit that was closed due to an accident. I hope his cars suspension breaks during a road trip and they have over 80 miles on a bumpy road to the nearest mechanic that will overcharge them as the closest mechanic besides him is 3 hours away. May his pet dislike him and prefer a guest over him. May his eyes and teeth itch.

I was expecting a plot twist at the end where Rowan bring another radio from his office and played the tracks again. He got tons of them so the torture will last forever.
That would be hilarious for him to say "You destroyed Playtech property, paycuts for all." Puts out another one, and it cuts to show a room full of them, showing he knows they'll go mad over this and give him an excuse for more paycuts. I love how Rowan just turns the volume up a little.
The worst part isn't the Christmas-themed stuff, it's the fact that retailers pull out all this garbage _the day after Halloween._ It's hard not to hate a holiday that's shoved down your throat constantly for two months straight every year.
Where I live Halloween isn't a very big thing... so naturally that means Christmas decoration starts appearing about a week into september. And then in october they put some pumpkins in between here and there anyway... And I hate it.

The worst part is that the managers that decide to play Christmas music on repeat in a store tend to be the ones that barely spend any time on the shop floor themselves.

I once worked in a retail store that had despacito or repeat. This is giving me flashbacks.
Omg! Bloody Despacito! I hated that horrible song the FIRST time of thousands I had to suffer through!
I work with this doctor in the operating room that plays the same music every week. Sometimes, the same songs will play multiple times on the same day.
Back when I was in college (several lifetimes ago in the early 1980s), I worked in a large chain department store in one of the major shopping malls in the area. On the first Saturday of the "official" holiday season, one of the high-ranking managers plugged an old record player into the PA system and put a Bing Crosby Christmas record on repeat. He turned it on and left it on auto-repeat, playing the same 5 or 6 songs endlessly from about 8:45aam onwards. We were actually getting complaints about it from customers (along with a lot of sympathy for not being able to escape), but none of the managers made a move to at least flip the album to the other side. At some point early in the afternoon I had to go to the cash office to get some change, and noticed the offending record player on the floor next to the entrance to the managerial offices (right next to the windows for the cash office, Customer Service, and Ticketron sales). As I stood in line waiting -- yep, we were *that* efficient -- one of the customers who'd earlier waxed eloquent about his hatred for hearing "White Christmas" for the eleventy-seventh time came down the aisle... noticed the record player... walked over to it... and KICKED IT ABOUT 10 FEET ACROSS THE FLOOR. Noticing the music had stopped -- and curious about why there was suddenly cheering out on the sales floor! -- the offending manager came out of the office and practically yelped in pain when he saw what had happened. Unfortunately, that damn record player was a commercial unit built like a tank so it was undamaged -- and the record had miraculously survived as well. The manager set it up again, on a table INSIDE the managerial suite, flipped the record over, and serenaded the store with Side B of Bing Crosby's Christmas Classics nonstop on repeat until around 9:45 that evening (after we'd closed).
Looks like hell form me.
Kinda surprised it didn't end with Rowan seeing the broken radio and saying:
"That radio was given to me by my Dad when I was five, on xmas day. That tape was in it, with those five songs. My Dad died the next day."
This radio is to big to be stuffed in someones ass while his father was in Vietnam. But, I am sure about it, there is an awfully lot of other interesting places to hide it.
My expectation was that Rowan notices a leftovers of radio, says something like "Oh, radio has snapped. NVM" and then brings a full size stereo speakers..

I'm ok with Christmas music in small doses so as a customer I don't mind it since I'll only be in the store for maybe 20 minutes max. But when I worked retail it was pure torture.

Lol, I was surprised at how I had to scroll so far down to see that someone else picked that up. I know that movie isn't talked about that much these days but that's a pretty iconic scene. I think if they had decided to license ($$$) the song from the original scene (Family Guy did it at one point) people would have likely "gotten" it more. I know I can't hear that song at all without thinking of the movie.

It might be possible if you can block out the specific frequency the music is playing at. However, if any of the customers happen to speak at that frequency, it would also block them out.
(note: I'm just guessworking here, because that idea sounds amazing)

Thank you for this, VLDL! I was starting to think I was the only one who hates Christmas music. The only evidence to the contrary was the vacant smiles and thousand-yard stares that many retail employees have around December, and part of me thought I was just imagining that.
But I must say, I was a little disappointed that there wasn't a scene of Rowan checking the time whenever one of the employees showed signs of mentally breaking.

I have literally seen Xmas jungles drive both staff and customers to the brink of psychosis.
I've never heard that "it's time for Xmas" song before, I think I'll have to put it on repeat just to ruin it for myself before I go shopping next... 😝

you guys absolutely rock, funny thought, Alan slightly brushes a product & price tag falls off pissing Rowan off, he go'es nuts, Adam brushes into a small item which leans onto another product, Rowan gets mental & crazy pay cut, Alley knocks a computer off the front desk wich some how shatters into a 1000 pieces, Rowan unfazed but more concerned for her safety
Finally an episode when Rowan has a point. Two little improvements for the idea:
1. There much more great Christmas songs that perfectly fit into stores and supermarkets as Christmas background music.
2. There are elf shoes and hats with bells that jingle with every step or every move.
I thought this was finally going to be the epsiode when they murder Rowan.
well technically if we follow the canon, Rowan ain't rowan since years now
