He gave the best scientific advice he had. At the very beginning, where there were both few cases and too few masks, he said masks weren't needed. He also said that could change very quickly.
He never said "masks don't work." He said, "masks aren't perfect." They aren't. That's why both masks and social distancing are needed.
His words have been taken out-of-context, misinterpreted, and sometimes there were claims he said things he never said.
The guy turned down a major promotion to be the Directory of the NIH because he wanted to be involved in research. He works long hours. He didn't kill millions,and he doesn't have deals with pharmaceutical companies to make him rich with the vaccine.
