Brook Trout of Minipi by Lee Wulff | Labrador

After World War II the government of Newfoundland & Labrador hired Lee Wulff to help promote the region for Brook Trout and Atlantic Salmon. In this classic video Lee is joined by Curt Gowdy who explore the Minipi watershed for the giant Brook Trout that have made the area famous. This is the film the government funded, one of several produced and hosted by Lee Wulff. Best of all, the fishing at Minipi is still the same all the years later!

I love how crude the field tied flies are. Outfitters would have you believe that you need an arsenal of expensive flies but the footage shows all you need are a couple of dyed bucktails, a few hooks, some thread, and head cement.

I own this video from back in the day. Still, it's nice to see it in the public domain.
I see the naïveté of the anglers and the fish and realize all are gone. Yet all remain.
The behind the gill grip and the eye grip on the pike seem rough, yet the fish are minimally handled and their out of the water time is shorter than most grip and grin videos of our time.
