VSCC Cadwell Park 2022 Under 30's Race Morgan Super Aero

  • First Race of the season in the 1926 Morgan Aero with the VSCC at Cadwell Park. After completing Practice / Qualifying in the morning, and finding myself on the first row of the grid Right along side the very fast Ben Maeers in the Parker GN, I managed to get away reasonably well at the start - only loosing a few places (which is always a downside to only having one rear wheel!). Within a couple of laps or so I had regained my second place, only to find myself with the combination of a failed fuel air pressure gauge and an intermittently stuck open throttle on one bank of the engine! With methanol leaking out of the gauge on to my leg along with my fuel pressure, whilst driving on the ignition when the throttle decided to stick open and frantically pumping air pressure when I could, I managed to bring the car home in second place.

Thanks, very glad you enjoyed it. Generally I just try to make sure I've had my Weetabix in preparation of a race day. 😂 Pumping is indeed for fuel pressure, furthest left knob is barrel oiler, next small knob closer to middle of dash is valve guide oiler. Once a lap or so for both oilers, every few corners for the fuel air pump!

Thanks, appreciate the kind words! Quite a mix of other vintage cars I was racing with, ranging from Austin 7 ulsters and supercharged MG's, as well as monsters like the Parker GN which is a 4.5 litre aero engined chain driven road registered racing car. They may be old, (some 100 years or more) but they don't hang around in the right hands! I'm doing 1.56 lap times in the Morgan in the dry, which is around 10 seconds a lap off of modern caterhams etc on the same circuit layout. 😎

    • @betacam235

90 bhp of methanol breather would give it wings....the Grinnall is about the same, using a 4 cylinder fuel injected BMW bike engine, and genuinely around 400kg.

    • @sandfordandrews6857

That's the air pump. Methanol is fed to the carbs by air pressure displacing the fuel out of the tank. I pressurise the tank using that air pump - generally trying to maintain 1-2PSI. Anymore than that and the fuel tank wants to split! In my next race that day, the fuel pressure gauge failed and was happily spraying fuel over my leg whilst I pumped. 😂
