It's a little less RNG/execution heavy than a mainline Pokemon game, just pick up pre-made team.

Confusion and Evasion are one in the same. When you use it the computer is 99% of the time unfazed. When you get hit with it, you have to go out of your way to rid of it unless you want to suffer :(

The problem is the game has rigged handicaps and the ai knows how to abuse it.
Both Zapdos and Kadabra have a higher base speed than magmar, is one of those handicaps speed? Because otherwise I’m not sure how confuse ray went first.

Thinking about it, Werster completely figured out the speedrun streaming meta. He plays a RNG heavy game and when everything goes well he gets a record, when it all goes to shit it's good content for TH-cam

I feel your pain bro. Had something shitty like that happen to me on that subway thing in white 1. Got about 170 flawless victories in until I came across a venusaur holding black sludge with the moves: toxic, leech seed, mega or giga drain (memory is fuzzy on that), and protect. I just remember that fight being pure cancer so I made a replica venusaur of my own and ev trained it for online use. I became a grimy opponent for about a month.

All the opponents that you have fought previously, you have to fight again, and they all have improved Pokémon teams in comparison to what they used to have in their previous respective encounters with you.
And yes, they all have way superior stats than last time (jacked up with vitamins, having at least above average IVs), and since your rental Pokémon's overall stats and moves are rather crappy, and won't improve from the first to the second round, expect surprisingly fast Pokémon, such as that Mag-Mar.

Why/how Magmar can be faster?? Well, that because that even though Kadabra and Zapdos are faster in terms of base speed, it's not as big a gap as you may think.
Base speed values: Magmar 93, Zapdos 100, and Kadabra 105. Case closed, you'd think, but not so fast. What about the IVs/EVs (or DVs at the time for the Kanto generation)?? You'd end with ranges of 98-145, 105-152, and 110-157 respectively for the speed stats at level 50. With those ranges you can clearly see it's very plausible to have Magmar have the most speed priority even though it has the least on base speed.
@@johnathanpatrick6118 Rentals do not have maxed out EVs and DVs. And in Round 2, every opponent has Maxed EVs and DVs. Meaning that Magmar in there outspeeds both Kadabra and Zapdos unexpectedly.

Partly; round 2 beefs up the computer Pokemon's stats to have them superior to yours in that regard. But in actuality Magmar is not far behind in base speed against Zapdos or Kadabra (93 vs. 100 and 105 respectively); in fact, a max speed Kadabra with neutral nature in today's generations only slightly outspeeds a max speed Magmar with neutral nature in most cases.

Round 2 with rentals is like playing a Kaizo hack of a video game. The reason why some people dislike the Pokemon Stadium games is because of how poorly the rental Pokemon were programmed. Make no mistake, the rental Pokemon should have been treated better.
Check out some of my videos and although the rentals are buffed the game would still be very difficult

For those who doesn't know: In Generations 1-6, a Pokémon is 50% likely to hit hitself in its confusion. It was reduced to 30% in Generation 7

You could claim hacked in today's Pokemon generation (Galar) all the way back to Hoenn. But this Magmar in terms of speed is actually not hacked, it's legitimately possible to have it be faster than Zapdos and Kadabra even with lower base speed. If you're familiar with the Serebii website, take a look at it and compare the ranges of the possible speeds for the three Pokemon, specifically at level 50. Base stat values don't always tell the whole story.

You'll be very surprised. These numbers were taken from Serebii's website (keep in mind since natures didn't exist until generation 3, I assume all natures are neutral; there's no stat boost or hindrance, just IV and/or EV influence)...
Kadabra: base speed 105 (at level 50, this translates to a speed between 110 and 157.).
Zapdos: base speed 100 (105-152 at level 50. Yes, Zapdos in many or most cases is *SLOWER* than Kadabra.).
Magmar: base speed 93 (98-145 at level 50.).
There you are. Jouke is actually not that far off; a max speed Magmar can definitely keep up with or outspeed a Zapdos or Kadabra with roughly about 75-80% of their possible max speed.

Don't be that surprised. 1) it's round 2 difficulty, and most enemy Pokemon will outprioritize you in speed. 2) If you're familiar with Serebii.net, check that out and look up the base speeds and the speed stat ranges at level 50 for each of the three Pokemon. Even if this were...say generation 7, it's very easy to come across a Magmar with better speed than Zapdos and Kadabra.

Stat experience and DVs probably. In Round 2 the opponents’ stats and movesets are way better than yours (the rental pokémon that is)

TLDR: IVs and EVs were different in Gen 1. IVs were called DVs, for example. And the caps on stats from battles were actually higher, but also took an incredible amount of grinding to reach.
In other words, Gen 3 basically capped power a lot lower (but made it easier to reach, therefore good and fair) and that Magmar would not be legal today, but it probably was at the time; it's just that very few people would put in such a ridiculous amount of time grinding it.

93 base speed -> 98-145 speed stat (level 50 Magmar).
100 base speed -> 105-152 (level 50 Zapdos).
105 base speed -> 110-157 (level 50 Kadabra).
Magmar outspeeding both Zapdos and Kadabra?? VERY POSSIBLE. Even without the round 2 difficulty.
How is Magmar faster than Zapdos and Kadabra
First off, round 2 increases all the enemy's stats to make them superior to your own Pokemon. But without that, it's still very common. Take a look at this:
Base speed of Magmar is 93, Zapdos 100, Kadabra 105. Just by that alone, no chance Magmar can have greater speed priority, right?? Wrong. IVs and EVs (collectively called DVs during this time) are the biggest contributors to the speed stat growth. For a level 50 of each of these Pokemon, and assuming neutral nature for each (natures didn't come into play until Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald), you got speed stat ranges respectively of 98-145, 105-152, and 110-157. Without the round 2 difficulty a max speed Magmar can outspeed a Zapdos or Kadabra with 75%-80% of their possible max speed or slightly higher than that. (All this taken from Serebii.net, if you are wondering.)
