A Diy Kayak Cart Experiment - Florida Fish Hunter

  • In this video I took it upon myself to see if I could come up with a simple kayak cart utilizing easily sourced components that could be assembled by most people that are handy with basic hand tools. I have seen similar designs on the internet but being that I normally fish salt water I never considered it because they all seem to incorporated some sort of steel axle which equates to future issues dealing with rust. My version is more saltwater friendly requiring virtually no maintenance other than your basic wash down after use.

    I notice that exists already a rectangular aluminium hollow bar on your kayak. I don't know the use but it looks "free". So .... you could use to install two curved rectugular legs one per each end of the existing bar with the same weels avoiding all the extra job!!! Additionally the kayak could be stay more up in order to protect the steering fin when you go at a ramp!!!! Think about....
    Have good time every time!!!!

      Hi Thiodor! Most people just want a much simpler method that they can easily make to move their kayak which is why I made this video but yes, the square aluminum tube that you mention is used as the main method for transporting this kayak which I show in this video: th-cam.com/video/WTK80BSy91E/w-d-xo.html 😊👍

    Looks promising for most part besides through time and going through rougher terrain the PVC will most likely break

    • @FFHTV
      @FFHTV  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pvc is very resilient. UV light degradation is the main culprit when using pvc in an outdoor environment so painting the pvc tubing will eliminate that problem and help it maintain its strength and integrity.

    • @FFHTV
      @FFHTV  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      As an option, a second inner and outer tube was added to the center section of the original axle build and felt that it was not necessary to have to include this step in the video but I guess I was wrong...

    I finally located a walker at a reasonable ($10) price and now to get the other components together....have you found any other wheels that are worth trying or are the C-Tug Kiwi on Amazon the best deal?? Didn't look at the cost of the one component that may be most difficult to find....wheels...(wasn't thinking the wheels would be over $50)

    • @FFHTV
      @FFHTV  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I really did not look around for wheels since I already had 3 pairs that had the right size hole to fit that one inch diameter aluminum tubing. What I would suggest is to go to your local hardware store or harbor freight and see if you can find wheels with a large solid plastic hub area so the hole used for its axle can be sized up to a 1 inch diameter opening.

    • @donsloat6299

    Does it add much stress to the tracks...?? Would it work with a Kayak that is 95lb.? How has it held up?? Great Video.. was very easy to understand...

    • @FFHTV
      @FFHTV  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi S Chambers! There is no load or stress to be concerned with on the tracks. All the weight and load of the kayak is on the axle itself when deployed. The pivot mounts that are on the tracks are just there to maintain axle position when moving after deployment or when flipped up to store on the top deck of the kayak. The Slayer 10 shown in the video weighs in at 81 pounds with just the seat and propel drive mounted. Once all my other gear is added I am absolutely sure that it's way over the 100 pound mark and have had absolutely no issues at all to date and has held up perfectly. I hope I have answered your questions and thanks for liking the video. 😊👍

  • @cullemallkayakfishing9563

    Do you think 1" PVC in place of the aluminum would hold up? I have the same yak and already have c-tug so the wheels wouldnt be an issue. If so could you tell me what the width of the axle would need to be? Thanks!

    • @FFHTV
      @FFHTV  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Pvc flexes too much for me which is why I went with aluminum but you are more than welcome to try it out and let me know your results. My axle width is currently 58 inches. 😊👍
