I made something pretty much identical for my PA14 - but here are a number of observations and suggestions: First, make sure that the stainless hooks are small enough to fit down the scupper holes. They are not big holes (about an inch or 25mm). Next, in order to make the hook assembly fit more easily down the scuppers, as knots are bulky, I simply use nylon zip ties (3 of them are more than enough) around the doubled-over bungee cord. No need to knot it once they are cinched up tight. I then wrapped the zip tie box ends with silicone tape just so that it's all smooth. Next suggestion: I make two separate bungee assemblies, not one. I hook my stretched bungee cord around the side handles rather than to the stern of the boat. They are much shorter that way. Once the length is determined, I tie on (this can be a knot or the zip-tie way) two big-assed carabiners - big enough to clip onto the rails. Alternatively, they can be two small snap hooks that loop around the handle and back around the bungee to create tension. And that's it. With tension on both sides, I just walk to the rear, lift it and up they pop. One final suggestion: Tomy is correct about how hard it is to get the caps off the original trolley. Since you aren't going to use them anymore, big, adjustable pliers are the way to go. Twist and pull and out they pop. And now a BIG suggestion: drill holes through the tubes opposite each other with a 1/8" (3mm) drill and pop rivet the pad eyes in, since they will only be hammered in and relying on friction to stay that way. The tubes are not threaded, so in my earlier design, the plugs were challenged to stay put in the holes once there's tension trying to pull them out! Oh, and the best way I found to remove some of the threads was to hold put the pad eye into vice, upside down and then use a sharp chisel to shear off just a little of the threads all the way around. I was still able to screw them into the tubes, but it's not enough to hold them in there permanently without the rivet suggestion. (Use short aluminum (aluminium) rivets and all will be well. G'day from the south coast of Western Australia!

Nice video, thanks. I've been doing this for a few years when the mod first came out. But you are struggling too much. Many of us do not have the luxury of doing it on a nice grassy area, so the technique is important. I do mine on the wet beach sand so reaching underneath is challenging when a wave comes up while you are underneath. I find it much easier to prop up the kayak on the wheels (just as a lift) as you do, but positioning of the cart is irrelevant at this point. I then drop the two hooks through the scupper holes. I try to feed the elastic all the way through too. Don't leave any slack on the elastic line on the deck surface. Then take the kayak and put it back on the ground, off the wheels. You will then see both hooks and don't need to reach underneath to blindly hook to the trolley. Take your cart and clip on the elastic band. Now position your cart so the pegs align up with the scupper holes and put the kayak back on the cart wheels. Since many of us do not have a motor mount, I pull the band to the stern while lifting the kayak up in the air....Voila. I am sure that there are many ways to do this, but I this is what I am used to after trying many ways over the last 2 years. I also find that putting 2 tennis balls on the forks of the trolley gives the hull a little support. You don't really want all the weight of the kayak center hull on just the trolley crossbar. Be sure not to store the kayak on the trolley! Thanks again.
Thanks for the detailed explanation. I think my bungee is too short. It would be easier if I could see both hooks. I'll have to try this method. I went out today and left my bungee on the garage. I really need to keep them in my hatch.

I have Boonedox Landing Gear on my Outback. I was reluctant to put them on my Pro Angler because of the weight. I heard a lot of people having cracked hulls. My friend has them and had an issue with the mounting hardware failing. I'll wait a while to decide if I'm going to get them for mine. This works fine for now. Thanks for watching.
I appreciate that support bro! I'm glad you found this video helpful. I just realized you got a new ride in your recent posts. Congrats! You're gonna love the PA. We new to do a collab this year.
Thank you. I appreciate the support. I just checked out your channel. You can help me learn to target crappie. I'm planning to target them more this year. I usually catch them as bycatch.
Impressive. I have the sides of my Outback protected with a hose and gorilla tape so rolling it on its side to put my wheels on isn't a big deal for me. But this is a great idea I might try to make one.
I rolled my 2016 Outback on it's side all the time. I got it second hand and didn't care as much. It's kind of a pain when you have a lot of gear that will fall off when you roll it over. This solution works great, but you have to get the hang of it over time. It can also be a challenge when you have too much gear and it's really heavy. Using this with a fully loaded PA on a steep ramp can be a challenge. I found another possible solution that I will share soon. Thanks for watching.
It looks like the pad eyes are back ordered everywhere. Austin Kayak has them available to pre-order. It looks like they will available on the 30th. Here's a link to their site bit.ly/2G1AN6Q. I have everything else I used in the video description as well. Thanks for watching.
Tommy did you ever try to load wheels in 2 ft of water when returning from fishing on the ramp? Easy to do with Hd and regular wheels not so easy with Trax 2-30!
@@TomyTekOutdoors No tilt ,just dip cart and stick in! Also you can use bungee with clips and just lift up and pin! When putting the plugs in frame save pin and attach to seat with 1/8'' bungee.
A bit off topic but We got into some snakehead. On the western shore . Normal clarity water , the Ned rig crushed them , even better with some lure bait oil

Hi Tony The loop plastic cap you put on the top of the frame.. you called it a loop. Is it a Hobie pad eye... if so what size they do a large also? Thanks for rainy uk! Keep the vids going just found you!
Have you or anyone here ever thought about just using the criss cross bungee hook ends that are already in the back area of the hobie? Any possible downsides to doing this that you can think of?
Gave it a shot today on my AI and worked great on land, now to figure it out on the water. Been taking the trax 2 tires off completely to store in the bow hatch which makes installing the cart cake, until you gotta reattach those darn balloons underwater lol

Salamat Kabayan. Kayak fishing seems to be very popular in Australia. It's very big in the states. It's pretty cool my videos are being see all over the world. I would love to go kayak fishing the next time we visit home. Thanks for watching. I appreciate your support.
You have put way more effort than Hobie into this problem. This is from a company who came up with the 360 drive but can't seem to notice the need for a better cart system. They need to put the engineer who invented the 360 drive on a solution for this. I have the PA14' 180 and feel your pain.
You would think they would have come up with something by now. I had Boonedox landing gear on my Outback and it works great. I heard too many stories of cracked hulls with PAs, so I opted to not install them on my PA. My friend has them on his PA360, so I waiting to see how well they work out for him. This solution works pretty good for now.
I'm using a single bungee that's long. I made it long enough for me to pull it over my cooler to reach to the back of my kayak and attach to my mount. What will determine the length will be wherever you can attach the bungee to have enough tension. I made the bungee a little longer than in the video to compensate for the things I have behind me like a cooler or bushel basket. I can adjust the length of the bungee by making a knot in it. I'll make a follow up video soon, showing how I use it now and in the field.
@@TomyTekOutdoors Thank you - that's helpful. Yeah another video of the system being used in the water (putting the wheels back-on while floating) would be awesome. Everyone shows videos on dry land, but real world is when you need to put the wheels on in the water and whether or not the systems actually work under real conditions. - Thanks man....
I's be carefull using scupper holes carts. I saw a video where a kayak had cracked in the scupper hole due to stress applied by the scupper cart. He ended up rushing back to shore at sea with the back en submerged. The air trapped in front saved him and his kayak. Here is another casemof a cracked scupper hole due to a scupper cart. I did notice in this video that he mentioned Hobie kayak have reinforced scupper holes? I had to to get an exchange on my kayak because of tin and misaligned kayak mold that left the scupper holes dangerously prone to cracking and the hull in general. The replacement kayak was awesome super thick hull and all alligned as it should be. Just an FYI. Inspect your cupper holes for misalignment and poor build. If Hobie ensures extra rigitidy in those area kudos to them. If you don't own a Hobie then I would inspect the hull and scupper holes. I'm new to the kayak world and glad I caught the discrepency in the build in my kayak early. We bought two of the same so it was easy to compare.
I've been using the scupper hole cart for years with no problem. It's unfortunate that all kayaks are not built the same, so someone will have the problem. You can add tennis balls to the posts to act as shock absorbers. There are other options like Boonedox landing gear and the C-tug cart.
@@TomyTekOutdoors I would suspect that the lenght of the post that goes in the hole would make a difference. If the pole only fits half way in it definitly stressed the seams. My first poorly constructed kayak which was exchanged had a severly misaligned scupper hole seam and thin walled flaw so in that case the poles would stop half way in and the thin materials compounded the issue. This can be missed unsuspectingly if the owner is not aware of such issues. By design, scupper trolleys would probably be best by having rhe pole be flush with the top floor once inserted.
That would make sense. I'm surprised Hobie hasn't come up with something to make it easier. I hope they do something in the near future. I saw someone make a stand to help install the cart. I might try that soon.

I've done this for a while but there was still the problem of getting wheels on it when pulling out of the water... I finally did away with the skupper cart and now my life is simple....
What solution are you using now? On soft launches, I usually have to drag it out to put the wheels on. On a concrete ramp, I have to do it sideways. A little scratches don't bother me anymore, so I still flip if I have a light load. I just bought Boonedox landing gear. That was the best solution for my Outback. I'll an install video coming up soon.
@@TomyTekOutdoors I tig welded an easily removable "landing gear" that installs with 1 pin from the TOP.. I wheel the yak to the ramp and right into the water, pull the pin and lift off the wheels. Coming back I tie off the yak to the slip cleat, drop in the wheels, insert pin and pull the yak out... This way I don't need to keep the landing gear with me on the water...
I did not cut mine because I attach it to the back of my kayak. It will depend on where you are going to attach it to. You need it to be long enough to reach your attachment point, but tight enough to be able to pull up the cart.
I don't have a kayak yet can someone explain to me why this is a useful way to put the cart on? Doesn't look like it would be difficult at all to put kayak on it's side and just slide the cart in place.
If you have a lot of gear in your kayak, it will fall off when you put it on it's side or you will have to take out of and reload out again. You can also scratch up the sides your kayak on concrete ramps. It hurts when you scratch up a high end kayak. I'm looking at other options that I will share in the near future.
They changed the mount on the new landing gear. The mount on my Outback is metal and the new mounts are plastic. I heard the brackets are breaking on quite a few kayaks. My friend has them on his 360, but hasn't used them enough to say how well it holds up. I'm a little reluctant to put them on my PA360 because what I spent on it. This will do for now, but there are some other options I will be trying. I'll be sharing those soon.
I appreciate this a lot! Thank you for sharing. I have a PA14 2012 model. The lower brace has broken off of the two upright posts. Using this method will help me get a few more years out of this cart.
I'm glad you found this helpful. Now that I've used this method a few times, there are some more tweaks I'm going to try. The tension from on the eyelets causes them to pull out. I'm going to try this other method that makes the bungee longer and you pull it up manually. We'll have to see how hard it is to do this with a PA, since it's heavy. If this works, I'll make an video update to this method. You could also apply 5200 or some adhesive on the eyelets to keep them in better. Thanks for watching.
I just tried using the longer bungee yesterday and it's a bit difficult to do this with a PA because of its weight. You have to hold it with one hand and pull the bungee up. That would be quite difficult for me with all the stuff I bring with me. I did find another way to still use the longer bungee, but I want to try it a few times to see if it works well. I also bent the clip on one of my hooks. I think I can fix it, but I might have to find stronger hooks. I'll make an update video after a few trips.
There would be a lot of drag in the water with them left in. I actually forgot to one time and wondered why I was going so slow. I got a good workout that day 😁
I've actually changed how I do this since I made this video. I have the bungee longer, so I can clip it to the cart while it is beside the cart. Then I lift the kayak over the cart. I adjust the slack of the bungee by tying it in a knot and attach it to my motor mount in the back. It works pretty much the same except I can see everything I'm doing.
Thanks. It's works great some far. I've had to tweak some things, so I'll do an update on this andd show me using it on the water. I was afraid to use Boonedox Landing Gear after hearing about all the cracked hulls.
Step 1: Throw hobie cart out. Step 2: Buy wilderness systems cart. Done The amount work and f*ck around people go through just to use the hobie cart is insane.
There are a lot of cart options now. I just got the Yak Attack Bunkster cart. You didn't have a lot of options early on and I didn't like how bulky the Wilderness Systems cart was. The Bunkster cart looks like a great option.
All the links are in the description below the video. If you are viewing on your phone, click on the down arrow to the right of the title to see the description.
I was able to use it on a ramp by lining my kayak perpendicular to the ramp. This way I'm not lifting it on the slant of the ramp. This could be a problem if the ramp is really steep.

Nice advice for adding wheels, why not use a permanent mount solution behind your seat?
I have Boonedox Landing Gear on my Outback. I was reluctant to put them on my Pro Angler because of the weight. I heard a lot of people having cracked hulls. My friend has them and had an issue with the mounting hardware failing. I'll wait a while to decide if I'm going to get them for mine. This works fine for now. Thanks for watching.
Super helpful video bro! I’ll be using this method and purchasing materials thru your affiliate links 👍
I appreciate that support bro! I'm glad you found this video helpful. I just realized you got a new ride in your recent posts. Congrats! You're gonna love the PA. We new to do a collab this year.
Good stuff man. Got me to subscribe instantly.
Thank you. I appreciate the support. I just checked out your channel. You can help me learn to target crappie. I'm planning to target them more this year. I usually catch them as bycatch.
@@TomyTekOutdoors great man. Anything I can do to help I will.
Hi, that is awesome! Thanks for sharing. Can you tell where we can buy the black hole that we screw inside?
It looks like the pad eyes are back ordered everywhere. Austin Kayak has them available to pre-order. It looks like they will available on the 30th. Here's a link to their site bit.ly/2G1AN6Q. I have everything else I used in the video description as well. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the link and parts list just did this and it’s awesome!!
Thanks
It’s appreciated
Tog Candy jigs !
You're welcome. I'm glad to help. This solution works well on several kayaks.
Very helpful video. Great idea man. I do appreciate you for sharing your experiences with us. Thanks again.
No problem. Glad to help.
Tommy did you ever try to load wheels in 2 ft of water when returning from fishing on the ramp? Easy to do with Hd and regular wheels not so easy with Trax 2-30!
I have not. I'll give it a shot when the water warms up. Do you just tilt it a little in 2 feet of water and insert the wheels?
@@TomyTekOutdoors No tilt ,just dip cart and stick in! Also you can use bungee with clips and just lift up and pin! When putting the plugs in frame save pin and attach to seat with 1/8'' bungee.
@@czwest7845 I'll give it a try. Thank you for explaining how to do it.
Great hack. If I ever get a hobie cart, I'll do the same.
This has been working great so far. Which cart do you prefer to use?
A bit off topic but
We got into some snakehead. On the western shore . Normal clarity water , the Ned rig crushed them , even better with some lure bait oil
I went out yesterday and the bite was tough. The water was really muddy. I only caught a chucky catfish. There were other locations that were productive. I'm planning to try up your way soon. Thanks for the report.
I used this mod today and made my life a lot easier. I did have to file down the top opening of the one scupper hole. It had a lip the kept hanging up the cart. If you ever get around my way message me and I'll take you fishing to return the favor. Revo 13
Awesome. That's great to hear. I'm glad it helped. I appreciate the offer. I'm always looking for new fishing buddies. Where are you located?
Thanks for the video! I did mine yesterday and it works great. What part of Maryland do you live at? I live in Saint Mary’s County and maybe we can get out on then water one day. I am more of a fresh water fisherman but am good with fishing any type of water. Thanks again and keep uploading the videos!
Now someone needs to make a video on how to do it for the Hobie i11s. It's scupper holes don't go all the way through!
My neighbor has an i11s. I can try it with his.
Did you do a video on the wheels?
Hi Tomy…
What size bungee did you use.. I tried an 6mm but it just didn’t have enough power to pull the kart though… I’ve now an 8mm looks like it’ll do the job but wanted to know what you used…
Great vid.
B
Thank you. I used 7mm bungee. It works well. 8mm should work as long as it fits through the scuppers.
@@TomyTekOutdoors
Hi Tommy …
Many thanks… 8mm is a little strong but I’ll see how it go’s…
Keep up the vids from across the pond.

Hi Tony
The loop plastic cap you put on the top of the frame.. you called it a loop.
Is it a Hobie pad eye... if so what size they do a large also?
Thanks for rainy uk!
Keep the vids going just found you!
Yes. It is the standard size Hobie Pad eye. Here's a link to them bit.ly/3klwkeO. I'll upload new videos soon. Thanks for watching.
@@TomyTekOutdoors
Manythanks for the reply.... expensive little bits of plastic aren’t they!
Mind you, it is Hobie!
Have you or anyone here ever thought about just using the criss cross bungee hook ends that are already in the back area of the hobie? Any possible downsides to doing this that you can think of?
That should work just fine. I use my bungee to hold down my PVC rod holders and my cooler, so I need a separate set of bungee.
Gave it a shot today on my AI and worked great on land, now to figure it out on the water. Been taking the trax 2 tires off completely to store in the bow hatch which makes installing the cart cake, until you gotta reattach those darn balloons underwater lol
Can you tell me the model number of the insert hoop you installed in the wheel cart? Thanks
Here's a link to the pad eyes, but they are sold out. You can still set the model information www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004CGB0D4/ref=as_li_qf_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=thomastablada-20&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B004CGB0D4&linkId=d8d0d61477f93e3c10214ca6db5cca69
Nice cart hack thanks for the video. Did you install aftermarket tires on the hobie cart? I’ve the the skinny hard tires that came stock with cart and of course they suck in the sand and lumpy roads. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
You're welcome. I'm glad you found it helpful. These tires came with the heavy duty cart. Here's a link to the cart I have www.amazon.com/dp/B004CG9Q0I/?tag=aiponsite-20&linkCode=ic5&ascsubtag=amzn1.infl.us.product&creativeASIN=B004CG9Q0I&ref=exp_tomytekoutdoors_dp_vv_d
This cart doesn't work too well in the sand. The big sand tires would be better.
Thanks for the info!
Can you operate the kayak with the wheels on in the water?
You could, but it would cause a lot of drag. It would give you better workout 😁.
More power Kabayan. your videos being shared at hobies group here in land down under.
Tomy - how many bungees are you using and what are their lengths? What determines the length (I have a compass DUO)?
I think the makers of the carts should put an eye on top of all the new scupper hole carts !

Did you cut the shock cord at all? If so how long.
I did not cut mine because I attach it to the back of my kayak. It will depend on where you are going to attach it to. You need it to be long enough to reach your attachment point, but tight enough to be able to pull up the cart.
Hi dear. Can you sand me a link the plug? I dont found

Brilliant!!
Thank you.
Genius bro
This works well. Thanks for watching.
Why did you decide not to put the boonedox landing gear on your new 360... I thought you had it on your outback
@@TomyTekOutdoors would drilling thru both the shaft and the eyelet and riveting it work for added strength?
Nice thank you
You're welcome. Thanks for watching.
Good job but why even take the wheels on and off? Why cant you just leave them on?
There would be a lot of drag in the water with them left in. I actually forgot to one time and wondered why I was going so slow. I got a good workout that day 😁
Idéia maravilhosa !!!! I will share to my friends ;)
I appreciate it. Thanks for watching.
Is that one side always harder to take the top off of.
I think so. My friend had the same problem. A mallet with a flat head screw driver did the trick.
Why wouldn't you lay the cart legs pointed towards the rear so you can see what the hell you're clipping to?
I've actually changed how I do this since I made this video. I have the bungee longer, so I can clip it to the cart while it is beside the cart. Then I lift the kayak over the cart. I adjust the slack of the bungee by tying it in a knot and attach it to my motor mount in the back. It works pretty much the same except I can see everything I'm doing.
Nice pare👊🏽
Salamat Pare 👊
Ingenious, and way cheaper than boondox.
Thanks. It's works great some far. I've had to tweak some things, so I'll do an update on this andd show me using it on the water. I was afraid to use Boonedox Landing Gear after hearing about all the cracked hulls.
How do u do it in the water
You have to pull it out of the water or do it on the edge of the shore line.
Step 1: Throw hobie cart out.
Step 2: Buy wilderness systems cart. Done
The amount work and f*ck around people go through just to use the hobie cart is insane.
There are a lot of cart options now. I just got the Yak Attack Bunkster cart. You didn't have a lot of options early on and I didn't like how bulky the Wilderness Systems cart was. The Bunkster cart looks like a great option.

Tired this at the ramp - doesn’t work so well on a slant
I was able to use it on a ramp by lining my kayak perpendicular to the ramp. This way I'm not lifting it on the slant of the ramp. This could be a problem if the ramp is really steep.
This works great, but holy hell is annoying to setup and un-do. Especially in sand or swampy areas. I gotta find another solution.
Has anyone done this to the Fold and Stow Cart?
If the pad eyes fit, it should work.
