  • Day two of my PA road-trip and I spent 18 hours chasing Reading and Northern freights, something I'd wanted to do for years. I got the Goodspringer (WCGS), Shenandoah Train (QASD), Mountain Job (MCQA), America's Train (NRFF7/8), and some Hazelton action (WHHB/WHFF). I was also treated to some stellar lineups by the RBMN, including both snoot nose's leading and an EMD quintuplet on the NRFF. Thanks for railfanning with me, you know what to do if you enjoyed the video :)

    I'm honestly suprised how little known your channel is. Your commentary isn't at all boring to listen to, and honestly makes the video better in every way. Not to mention the fact you always seek out places with little documentation, placing many new locations in my bucket list!

    If you're ever planning a return trip, not only would I be more than welcome to show you around more but also id have you check out the infamous Boardwalk down at North Reading Yard, especially at night when there is a ton of action! You can catch WNCR, PIFF, WHFF, and various other yard movements all at the same place. I'm know by many as the Guru of Reading and Northern.

    That horn there using I used to hear.
    It was used by the Seaboard board coast line.I live not to far from the tracks.I could hear them blowing for crossing.I recall seeing them on the GP9 and GP7 and later 6 axle GE and SD45/SD40-2..I miss that horn brings back good times..

    We're headed south to Savannah and Florida for a couple of days, and we're looking to do some railfanning while there. I know a few spots; Dade city, Wildwood, Lakeland (We would go to Plant City but we most likely won't as it'll be a waste of time due to how sparse traffic is there) and a few others. Along with that, we're hoping to go down to the FEC mainline and catch a few trains there. I was wondering if you knew some good places for Railfanning in the central Florida area, along with locations along the FEC. Thanks!

    • @FloridaRailfan
      @FloridaRailfan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      New Smyrna is a great place for FEC, there's a parking lot that backs up to the tracks and you can see everything...just be respectful of property lines. There's a SunRail station in the middle of CSX's Taft Yard, but much of the freight action there is nocturnal. Join the Florida Railfans FaceBook page, they've got lots of great info. CSX's Bone Valley is a blast as well, but extremely hard to navigate and I don't know too much about it without a guide...

    Can I ask a dumb question.... what is all the metal screeching that I hear? Is that the wheel flanges grinding against the rail? Besides awesome narration (truely, thank you.. this sets you totally far apart from others.. I absolutely appreciate the narrations.. it makes the whole show go from watching "home videos" of moving trains, to watching 'trains in motion' WITH the why), you hear the screeching especially from 6:37 time point to 6:55. I watch FRF solely for the views, creativity, but also for the narration, you know so much!!! But these sounds, I'm not so sure. The closest I've been to a train is either driving alongside, or stopped at a gate (either if I am lucky). My model trains do not make these sounds either.. lol. Okay dumb question over.

    • @gliderydin2911
      @gliderydin2911 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes the screeching you hear is the flanges rubbing against the rail in a turn

      Thanks a lot for all the kind words, I appreciate the enthusiasm and it’s good to know my hard work pays off for the viewers. But yes that crazy sound you’re talking about is the steel wheels going around tight turns, I’ve become de-sensitized but still catch myself wincing from time to time. Thanks again!

    Narration is a lot more meaningful when it's not overly-aroused rambling, but is accurate. I'm not sure who your source was, but I wouldn't take everything they say as gospel truth, and I definitely wouldn't pass it along to the public to further spread bad information.
