CF7's on the Florida Midland Railroad!

  • I spent the morning of September 18th on the Florida Midland Railroad's Lake Wales Branch in order to track down one of their two surviving CF7 locomotives. I was excited to see the Converted F7 leading for most of the trip, and ended up chasing the train for another couple of hours. The Florida Midland is a sister company of the Florida Central Railroad, both of which operate under the umbrella of Pinsly Railroads, with a majority of their assets in Florida. Both the Florida Central and Florida Midland are great little railroads, and I hope to explore the Florida Northern for myself in the future. Make sure to watch in 1080p60 for the best viewing, and don't forget to like, comment and subscribe!

    As a British Railfan I love these videos of Shortline operations. It's something we don't see in the UK anymore so I enjoy these "virtual trips" to the US. Your enthusiasm for the railroad is infectious!

      Glad I can help liven things up for you. In America, there seem to be two types of railfans...those who enjoy mainline action, and those who schedule trips to chase shortlines...I personally enjoy the shrtlines much more, because they are all so unique, and off the beaten path which always adds excitement. Thanks for tuning in!

    Excellent video. And kudos for having the courage to navigate those 'grove' "roads". If you don't already have one, pick up the latest version of "DeLorme's Florida Atlas and Gazetteer". Very useful for finding back roads and crossings.

    Why would they give a CF7 an E-Bell.

    I never knew those CF7s were ex Santa Fe, that explains why theres silver paint behind them fading trucks on a few of them

    • @FloridaRailfan
      @FloridaRailfan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah the silver paint is definitely an oddity, don't see that on many trucks these days. But then again, the CF7's as a whole are kinda "freaks". Awesome little engines to see in action!

      Sounds like #48 wasn't running on all cylinders in that video.

    Hello, do you know what the deal is with the abandoned EMD F40 (formerly Amtrak 343) on this line in Lake Wales? How it got there and who owns it? It's basically hidden in the overgrown woods behind a warehouse on Seaboard Ave and North 1st Street, with no service track to it anymore.

    • @FloridaRailfan
      @FloridaRailfan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Last I heard, it has been gutted and outfitted with refrigeration, serving as a giant fridge for the fruit distributor it sits adjacent to. I could be completely wrong though…

      @@FloridaRailfan Thanks for the response. Looks like the company went out of business. I guess whoever takes over the property will inherit it...

    • @FloridaRailfan
      @FloridaRailfan  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This was actually quite a large train for this railroad. They only serve four or five online customers, most of which receive one or two cars at most. Lowe's, at the end of the line, usually makes up the majority, if not all, of the trains' consist
