I've been a paying customer of Topaz products for years. I'm really hoping that Topaz develops thier GigaPixel into an app that competes with or surpasses the capabilities of Magnific. That would be epic.

Pixop clearly did not support 4K since it only upscaled your source 1K material to 3.75 times the size.

Upscaling takes a LOT of GPU processing, since it's generating tiles of the image, and iterating across multiple upscales. I found a decent ComfyUI workflow that worked well.

I feel like it's accepted for these ai tools to release at what's essentially an alpha release. Every video tool, and a lot of other ai tools, come with a ton of "it'll be better soon" caveats. Looks great on first glance but not so much when you look deeper.
Software in general to be honest. Games are rampant in that regard. At this point I won't buy a game until it's been out for at least a month.

Thanks for the reference to pixverse. It goes ok, it doesn't distort the original image as some others do but it's still a struggle to develop effective prompts that instigate effective movement. One thing I'd like to see in these programs is the ability to import (and preserve in the export) transparency so you could animate layers then return them to your editor, that would be cool.

I just found out Pika was charging shortly before this video came. I was like damn. lol I immediately thought to myself, "I know Tim is going to mention this in a video" and then this video comes out. Great video as usual. I'm going to try out Krea. I can't do the Magnific price right now. By the way, I liked the Pixies reference. Surfer Rosa is an excellent album.
Haha, I was on the hunt the week that they announced it! I mean, I like Pixverse-- it clearly doesn't have all the bells and whistles of Pika and Gen2, but I'm excited to see how they end up developing. I'm sure at some point, the tide will turn and they'll start offering a Free/Paid tier (much like Pika)-- and by that point, I'll be looking to see if there is anything else out there for you all.
I will say that at this point, I think it would be smart to invest in one of these platforms-- if nothing more, than just having the chance to really dive in on all the intricacies. That said, everyone's financial situations are different, so I'll always track down free options!
@@TheoreticallyMedia You are definitely right. I love Pika 1.0 and will definitely get subscription. It's too good. When it comes to free, at least we have Pixverse and there is still Moonvalley which doesn't get a lot of love. I haven't even used it myself.

Some videos have the pixverse logo on the bottom right and some don't. Do you know why and how we can remove it?
Great video, thanks! Do you know if there's some devt on a video upscaler which could hallucinate like Magnific, or a creative image upscaler which could work with images batch we could use with videos?
A few have tried-- the issue there is that Magnfic/Krea etc all have little changes between frames. So, you could do it-- it would just look like those early Kaiber videos, where small details would keep shifting around.
That said, I have heard some people are working on it-- so, perhaps soon?

What I want to do is find an image generator software that would show this female dancing for between approx the length of my songs rating from 20 seconds to 4 minutes who might mean looping. Hi: about the upscale factor in Krea, you can upscale 4x. (I think) there's a limit of 2048x2048. You can upscale 4x a 512x512 image; a 1024x1024 image only 2x.

Ah, yeah-- I figured there was a limit at some point. There was an interesting idea where you could segment out a large image into 4 sections, then upscale each of those and reassemble. Almost like a puzzle! Haven't tried it yet!

Hello, is there a way to make videos with my own video assets?
Krea does upscale up to 16x. However, the limitation lies on the max width or height. It just does not pass 2048. So if you upscale a 512 for 4x, it does that really well. If you have a 1024, then your max upscale will be 2x, not because it doesn't upscale more than 2x but because it surpasses the 2048.
And just TODAY, it introduced 4k upscale for its pro plan. So that would be 4096 by 4096 max.
One more thing to point out, because of the 2048 limit, you can't just pass it through the upscale 2 times.
Ah, I figured there was a wall at some point! I did see they have bigger upscales now! That's awesome! Krea is kind of quietly killing it. I think my job is to not make it as quiet!
@@TheoreticallyMedia Yeah, I'm curious why they are not doing any marketings like Magnific. Another update today: Krea also removed the "Quick Enhance" option in real-time generation. I suppose that was heavy on their GPUs?

Ha! Was that the footage? Good catch! I actually agree on a number of those cleanup jobs. There was a period where a lot of Blu-Ray releases of 70s era films abused grain removal, and things just looked…wrong.
Some films just look better when they’re a little dirty.

Thank you! For screen recording I use OBS, but I also shoot standard video via my camera. I record microphone audio into OBS, and use an external mic plugged into my camera.
I take both video recordings and sync them in Premiere, and then manually cut back and forth between Picture in Picture and full screen.
You can set up presets to do that in Premiere, but to be honest, I don’t love it, as you are now doing a “live edit” and that is just one more thing that takes your attention away from presenting.

Krea was great until they changed it a few days ago. The outputs were amazing. Now, with all of the new controls they come out looking like garbage. Maybe it's a work in progress, but they could at least give us access to the last working version. Thanks for the heads up on the pixaverse thing. That looks great
I think these models get tweeked pretty often. We've seen that with Midjourney as well-- you kind of get a new version, it looks good, but odd-- then tuned as time goes on. I'm sure it'll only improve!

It's getting real hard keeping up with all these AI tools and websites. Also, signing up for every single one is a pain, not to mention most of them are paid. Do you think this market will clear up in time, with clear choices to go for image and video generation, or will it just get even crazier?

I think of it as a bit like being at the start of the streaming wars. Like, Netflix, Amazon, Disney, and then everyone else has a streaming service, from AMC to The Food Network.
But, on that front, we’re starting to see consolidation, and that might happen with AI tools at some point- but, since the tech in AI keeps changing, it might take a bit longer.
For sure, there are companies aiming to be the “Netflix of AI” but, I do think that’s a long way off. And I’m not sure I’d love that, since that would mean our work would have a homogenous look as well. I think there is a lot of strength in the wide variety of tools.
Although, yeah- keeping up is a bear!
What I would like to see AI do is re-light a scene. You input your ambient crappy lit video and it outputs a professional cinematic lit scene.
So...not exactly that-- but I'm looking at maybe the first step in that direction for tomorrow's video!
This looks like a great one to try out, unfortunately, all I get when trying to create a video is "The system is operating at full capacity" and nothing happens. Been waiting about an hour so far. Will keep trying.
Finally process after over an hour, but the video does look pretty good. Trying other prompts to see, but the time it takes to create a video is a bit of a let down. Hopefully they increase their servers. I don't mind paying for something like this, and I would pay for Pika, but the cost and the amount of generations you get for it are not worth it at this stage. If one generation gave you exactly what your were looking for, that would be one thing, but it typically takes several prompts for it to produce what you're looking for.
oh-- they might be getting slammed right now? I kind of wonder if I gave them the "hug of death"-- where I point to something that hasn't scaled yet, and a flood of you go running in and overload the system. Haha, if so-- sorry?

@@TheoreticallyMedia Yeah, finally got a few generations and they results are great. And the ability to upscale right there is pretty nice. Pika is good, but the new costs are hard to justify. I like Leonardo's new Motion as well, except it pretty much always does the slow pan and doesn't follow any prompted camera movements. The quality is good, but I can't have everything pan. This seems like a good alternative I am going to try out some more.

In Krea, I don't put the AI strength above 0.5 or you end up with weird results such as you showed.
Oh, for sure, but I do love cranking the knobs. I think those big swings usually work well for YT videos, since it is super obvious something is happening. Being subtle is not a virtue in the world of video!
I might also apply the same reasoning to seasoning, which is probably why my family hates my cooking.
Shouldn't these AI generators create 3d models of what they see (rigid bodies, fabrics, particles), move them, and then fix the image overlays? Throw in some 3d physics for spaghetti and cloth, etc.
I expect to see that this year. There's a lot of work being done in that area. I think this year, we'll be generating an image, that's really a 3D scene where we can control the camera. From there, it's basically a hop and a skip to what you're talking about.

Magnific is slightly better it seems regarding that picture. At least on 67% of the details. Then Krea wins on 33% of the details.
It's mainly the face, skin and hair details that gives Magnific the win for me. Though Krea is just as good on the suit and gun. Magnific has a better sword and the suit is really probably just a design choice. So if you made more versions, it really might be a draw on the suit.
Possibly Krea slightly wins regarding human body anatomy, but it's a bit hard to tell from just this one picture.

Yeah, I think that barrier will be smashed sometime early this year. I'd expect somewhere around April, you'll see models that are hitting the 8 to 10 sec mark. There are currently ways to extend, but the quality can have a pretty steep drop off right now.

I think TH-cam is introducing auto translate pretty soon-- like, I'll actually be SPEAKING in different languages. Pretty wild. The thing I'm always wary of when it comes to auto-translators is that they can often miss subtle language nuances. Or, the bot might miss something like sarcasm.
But, that's where the human comes in. I think people are pretty good at picking up: "Oh, that was a joke. It wasn't funny because the bot translated it. But I recognize it was a joke."
Then again, plenty of people say my jokes aren't funny even when they speak english.
