Those Grand Prix 2 cars shown here almost brought tears to my eyes. I was only 4yo when Senna died, and just 2 years later, my father brought GP2 from a trip he made to the US. It was my first F1 game. Poor DC always got booted from my Williams heheh
Fun fact: Whenever you ran a season in that DC would be the fastest AI driver along with Schumacher. Almost as if the devs were saying "Here's what would've happened if Senna hadn't crashed."
@@GreekSIMRACING 1994 was a very strange (and tragic) season. Due to a combination of accidents, driver suspensions and several teams employing terrible pay drivers to try to stay afloat, 39 different drivers raced that season. I think the exact combination of drivers that featured in GP2 might have only been the grid for one race. McLaren had a 50% retirement rate, 16 finishes from 32 entries. That's unimaginable now. It was pretty quick when it did finish though, Hakkinen had 6 podiums and Brundle had another 2. Katayama in the Tyrell was another guy who was really unlucky. He was really fast that season (compared to every other season where he was relatively poor) but repeatedly retired out of points positions. He'd have been something like 4th or 5th in the WDC if he had a reliable car. But I think in game Larousse were the least reliable if I remember the stats correctly.
CORRECT! I would be completely happy with these graphics if I got the physics and smooth online play. The sim is SO much more important than the eye candy.
Saw an interview with him from a few years back now , he seems be content with whatever he is doing now , though he did mention something about a failed attempt at then newer version of Stuntcar racer.
For his time Geoff was simpy miles ahead of everybody. GP 2 AND GP3 were awsome sims and GP4 had a complete career mode, suspension and asfalt physics and dinamyc generated weather. Masterpiece.
There’s also a mod for the 1970 season that includes the lotus turbine car, and I recommend trying the Porsche cup car that comes with AMS which is a lot of fun
This was a great presentation and I especially liked the engine sounds and the paint on the cars. Also the trees and tents. Hope you have more on this. Good Show.
Oh man... I played the GP2/3/4 a lot of in my youth. I remember doing a little series with a couple of friends in adolescence... old times. This is a brick of nostalgia... well, more like a anvil, even. This mod looks amazing, definitely gonna try it out! If possible, I'd consider myself a proponent of a series with this.
A soon as I saw that dash I was transported back. I bought GP2 when it was released and became a Crammond convert immediately. Miles ahead of everything in its day. GPL, Sports Car GT and GP3 followed. Then GP4 (real system killer, that one!), NR2003. Loved all those early sims. Thanks for the memories, man. Appreciate the upload.
I have played this game for so many hours both in internet cafe's and at home once I managed to get a copy for myself. So many good memories came out of this video thank you so much to have found this mod and share it with us!
I must have this Mod... GP2 was the first game i've ever purchased and i played it for years and loved it... it's the reason i am so much into simracing
Idk why but I think Adelaide from Formula One for PS1 by Psygnosis is my favorite looking version of the track, there is something about it that just makes the whole track and everything around it seem alive
The moment you got in the car my nostalgia meter went into overdrive. I was so hoping the mod included classic cockpits and here we are. Yes, I did do 100% GP length races in F1GP on my Amiga. Oof.
Same here, I did around 4 seasons, 100% everything. 1st season, lost the championship to Mansell at interlagos passing me on the very last corner on the last lap! Was amazing back then.
And don't forget to mention the crammond series of third party creators one guy I remember is Marc Aarts, and all the guys that created the new tracks (many fictional), cars, graphics, sounds, everything that expanded the game from mere grand prix itself
Geoff Crammond is in the Gaming Hall Of Fame with Yu Suzuki and David Braben, thank you for sharing this nostagia. RIP Brian Jones, a great British Racing Commentator.
I had all these GP games starting from the 91 original on the Amiga through to GP4 then on the PC , my first experience of adding mods starting in GP3 and how complex that was back then . I have not tried these yet .like the idea of recreating these classic games , Indy 500 would be another from the same time period . I would still love a recreation of Stunt car racer , in something like BeamNG drive .
The idea behind of this mod is just so innovative!! I loved GP2 so much back in 1995! I mean, for me this is a refreshing step back to the future!! 👍👍 👍
I used to be in the original F1GP internet world championship on the Amiga. Recording our races locally and then emailing the record of your race. They all got merged together and a full race picture resulted. Lots of fun. Mid 90s maybe. Weirdly never played any other game in the series after that
Quello che ho visto in questo video è eccezionale! GP2, per me, rimane il gioco di F1 più bello di tutti i tempi. Chi produce i nuovi giochi... dovrebbe chiedersi il perché.
Most unrealistic Mod I have ever seen. Both Pacific's are on the grid! ;-) Apart from that your video brings back so many nice memories. I still remember a race at Spa, where I started the final lap on 5th position. Of those in front of me, one driver suffered a suspension failure, two of them were past by me, but the leader was out of reach. Then he suffered a blown engine a few hundred meters before the finishline, and so we crossed it side by side. :-D
+1 on indycar racing mods. I loved 1! could never get 2 to work as a kid. But the amount of hours i sunk at 5 years old with a racing wheel (i think) at MIS with AI turned to the easiest setting xD
But does this mode really offers the GP2 simulation experience or its just a gimmick? You know, what set GP2 apart was all the damage modes, race strategies you could make, the quality of AI racing, the championship mode was impeccable! My feeling with modern Sims is that they focus too much on car physics but offer us a poor overall racing simulation experience. To this day, I still don't think anything comes close to GP2 in this respect!
I have fond memories of overtaking about ten cars on the run down to any first corner in GP2. Damage may have been off, and some contact 'may' have occurred at the apex, but one needed to make up for my terrible qualifying performances! That engine noise is burned in to my brain. GP2 was last F1 sim I ever raced properly. The modern F1 games just never interested me.
Wow, this video brought back so many fond memories from the past... I was 15 when GP2 was released. I also played the original GP1 game. Amazing video, congratulations. Btw, totally forgot about the intro song, an obvious knock off of The Chain, ahahah. Innocent days....

Can you break away the rear using small taps of the A keyboard key to rotate the car on corner exit like we could do in 1996? This was actually a real life F1 skill. Senna mentions it in the movie Senna 2010 “where it’s supposed to break away (on throttle) it breaks away even more”.
