One way to get around the Ricoh battery life is to set one of the display screens to empty. That way you can eliminate the major power drain and get your display back by pressing the disp button. Easily doubles the life of the battery.

Luis...nice overview of the pros and cons of these two cameras. I have the Leica Q2 and had the Ricoh GR II. I will be purchasing another Ricoh GR III for the reasons you outlined in your review. Sometimes I don't want to carry the Leica because it attracts too much attention in certain settings or when I want something in my pocket to take images for better than an iPhone. Having said that I do feel that Leica cameras as well as Fuji, Pentax and Ricoh offer the user an experience that you just can't have with Sony for example. I like the dials, buttons and simplicity that provides the photographer a gateway to creating images. I would appreciate your thoughts on this topic. Thanks again for the thoughtful review.

Well balanced review - thanks. I bought the Ricoh, but sent it back. I didn’t like the lens telescoping in and out every time I switched it on...it reminded me of old point and shoot cheap cameras, but the image quality is great. I just found that on the occasions when I wanted a small camera that was pocketable, I kept returning to my iPhone 12 which takes amazing images too. I’ve recently bought the Leica Q2...and I’m keeping it. The ergonomics are brilliant and full frame is great too. I’ve bought the Grip with mine + the Finger Loop and Thumb Rest, that makes it very easy and safe to carry and for single handed operation....the only downside (for me) is the price, but the engineering quality is the best I’ve experienced in a camera + with the lens being fixed, it means I’m not tempted to buy lenses and it forces you to think about composition and Zoom with your feet - same thing with the Ricoh, 2 great cameras - Cheers - Peter.

Have a GrIII and love it, the IQ is soo much better than one would anticipate given its size. Have always been a fan of Leica, every time I handle a Q I love it, but have never owned one. So not sure if living with it would be different. A used Q is available locally and I'm considering it. Not cheap but cheap for a Leica Q, so debating. I have a Sony A7RV and have to say it's the best camera I have ever used. So part of me thinks I'm dealing with GAS, and should just look away. Came back here to re-watch your video for some added insight.

Another great video 😊. I own both of these cameras and love them both equally, but for different occasions. The Leica is hands down the most "fun" and "inspiring" camera I have ever owned. Just holding it makes you want to shoot and be creative. And that lens. Wow. The Ricoh is my fave no excuse camera ever. What I mean by that is no matter where I am going (aside from swimming maybe lol) I have "no excuse" to not bring the Ricoh. And it punches way above its weight class. I have made some of my all time fave photos on that little camera. And both cameras are a dream for zone focussing which makes them really stand out.

great video and comparison points. i've had my GR3 for a year now and it has been the best camera i ever bought. always with me due to size, takes amazing picctures equaling to my big DSLR, SOOC area great and raw is very rich and flexible. lens is sharp at 2.8 and up. honestly it's the almost perfect camera.
the one thing that bothers me about it and makes me want to consider a leica Q is the lack of manual / deliberate shooting that we get from more traditional cameras like a viewfinder and manual focus ring and aperture ring. but it's not meant for that it's a point and shoot with a DSLR heart.
If leica made a 50mm Q i would 100% buy that one as my more photography deliberate camera and kepp the gr3 for those quick snaps

"$5000 is quite a hefty price for a non interchangeable lens camera." That might just win "understatement of the year award."
Having said that, both are expensive for what they are.
Of course, both have excellent IQ and both excel in certain areas.
As others have mentioned, I hate the GR3 extending lens (aka "fragile dust sucker"). But there are work arounds.

Best camera comparison review of these two cameras! Very detailed and concise. I didn't know the Q2 had IBIS and that the battery 'door' was just the base of the battery itself until now! It's true what they say that the Q2 is the gateway drug to leica, its got everything you need minus the rangefinder and 'purity' of the M models, but for a fixed 28mm focal length camera, it looks, feels and functions as much as it costs. The ricoh gr3 is next on my list of digital cameras for street photography, if fuji doesn't release a new 28mm compact camera soon ;) The weight and pocketability along with its sensor size and 3 axis ibis makes it hard to beat. honestly some days I look at my X100V and still hesitate to take it, especially on grocery runs, and it always ends up being the days when something happens on the streets and I regret; so having a gr3 will fulfill that daily life niche xD
    Great review Luis!

The cost of the Q2 can be justified in several ways. The 28mm lens would cost more on its own, the Q2 has a high enough pixel count to enable use of the in body crop feature without a huge drop in quality .... and then there's the build quality.
