Anybody notice how music from the 80's for the most part was positive messages and trying to get kids to do good things. Now days music is all about getting kids to do really bad things.
Real talk....when I first saw this a s a kid, it really bugged me out. Even scared me. It was videos like this that kept me on the straight and narrow. I could NEVER get involved with drugs and never understood those who do. STRAIGHT UP!!!
Great song & great message! It’s amazing to see how many actors & actresses that were in this video still doing their craft to this day. To see Giancarlo Esposito, Laurence Fishburn, Carl Anthony Payne, & Vanessa Williams in that video is amazing!
From what I understand, Whodini was the first R&B or hip-hop group (or possibly any group of any genre) to feature dancers in their music videos. It became a thing after that. 💃🏾🕺🏾
look at that rappers telling people to grow up and be responsible fastforward 30 years we have we have rappers telling people to smoke weed all day have sex with as many women as possible and go round breaking the law
@@jcincorporated6207 exactly! Once "other's" saw the power and positivity the music had not to mention the profitability those demons infiltrated and took the positivity from the genre and replaced it with what we see now. Public Enemy addressed it way back in 1990 as it was happening! They released Who Stole the Soul? off their Fear Of A Black Planet album, tape and CD. The name of that album speaks volumes on it's own...

A lot of early stars acting in this video. Dope song with a message. This is what we need today, the message is still relevant. RIP Ecstacy! Whodini forever
Damn, so before Neo came along, Morpheus was out here handing out red or blue “pills”, got a young Gus Fring lookin crazy as hell. Congrats to Cole for not falling for the peer pressure.
Hearing this song and this album in general takes me back in time to when I was 7, riding in my dads convertible Mitsubishi Mighty Max with a state of the art clarion cassette player, amp and subwoofers which were unheard of until the early 90's in our area
Classic music video which features some of the most famous movie & television stars in the entertainment industry. The music video for "Funky Beat" featured appearances by Malcolm-Jamal Warner, who was a cast member of The Cosby Show at the time, as well as Floyd Vivino with his puppet Oogie from The Uncle Floyd Show. The music video for the third single "Growing Up" was notable by the appearances of actors Giancarlo Esposito, Laurence Fishburne and Carl Anthony Payne II. I love this video! ❤️❤️
Wow...I haven't seen this video in damn near 30 years. I still feel like yellin' "COCKROACH!!!" Not to mention DAP DUNLAP and BIG BROTHA ALMIGHTY! At the time, we didn't realize who the two older guys were...because they weren't stars yet, but Giancarlo Eposito and Laurence Fishburne have done rather nicely for themselves since then. This is back when Laurence Fisburne was primarily playing villains and hoodlums...and hey, he WAS good at it.
My first rap concert was in 1986. I had just finished elementary school. It was the Raising Hell tour featuring LL Cool J, The Beasties, Whodini and Run-DMC. I loved Whodini, but seeing them perform changed the game. I had all their albums. But I grew up without cable. I never knew there was a video for this. It's weird seeing Cockroach, Morpheus and Buggin' Out in this video. I would have never thought the video theme would have been about avoiding drugs, but we did grow up in Reagan's Crack 80s. Now we have lost one two Fat Boys, One Whodini, One Run-DMC and one Beastie. My Dad used to say, you will not feel old until you realize that you are too old to date 21 year olds, and when things start getting taken from you. Between those loses, Biz Markie, Shock G, DMX, Ecstasy, Black Rob, I finally understand what my father was saying. I guess its all a part of growing up...
A lot of future black Hollywood stars in this video 🔥🔥
