    What’s a walnut unit?

Walnut is a place, therefore the police units patrol the area.

@@heathercreighton9613 I thought they just patrolled the jurisdiction. They are called based on where they are located?

@@motorsportmoments Walnut is a city so every deputy that works out of the Walnut station is a walnut unit they have their own call signs but when the dispatcher broadcasts a call they will say any Walnut unit available to respond.

@@motorsportmoments Walnut Station (290) is located in the city of Walnut. As with other LA County Sheriff Stations, each station covers several areas in its vicinity.
For example, Walnut Station covers the contract city of Walnut (291), contract city of Diamond Bar (292) and the unincorporated areas of Rowland Heights (293,294).
Another station that covers several cities in its vicinity would be Industry Station (140). Industry patrols the contract city of Industry (141), unincorporated areas of West Valinda/Bassett (142), contract city La Puente (143), unincorporated areas of Valinda/East Valinda (144), contract city La Habra Heights (145), and unincorporated areas of Hacienda Heights (147).
An example of a station that only covers one city would be the Altadena Station (70). The unit numbers at the Altadena Station are separated by where they patrol in the city. For example 71 is on the West Side, 72 Central and 73 East.
Hope this clears it up a bit
