    I idolised him in the 80's and 90's. I had the same pringle jumpers and t-shirt. Same Mizuno clubs. I played similar to him. Didn't hit it far, but was always safe.
    He's very funny. Thankyou Sir Nick Faldo.

    Love that he saved his jumper from '87, he probably has every outfit he ever won a Major in
    I remember having the '96 Masters shirt when I was 14

    I love it when pros talk of thinning and fatting shots. You know they were still crisper than one out the middle for us.

    Brilliant brilliant player and, often forgotten, when he lost (eg to Seve in the 1988 Open) he took defeat with beautiful grace.

      Fully agree. My boyhood golf idol and whom I modelled my game after (quite successfully too). He also lost US open to Strange in the same year.

      @@NicolaiAwesome Yes indeed, and tool it beautifully like he always did. I always thought the US Open was 'made for' Nick's straight hitting, consistency and nerve, but he never won it! In 1990 for example he was 1 behind, and how his putt on the last stayed out I'll never know.

    Best British golfer of his generation by a mile imo and while Seve gets the genius plaudits, Nick was right there with him. Totally different approach to the game but towering amounts of skill, determination, and the the will to win.

    Nick Faldo has a reputation for being arrogant but in interviews he always comes across as a decent and funny guy. He was a truly amazing golfer. Still remember watching his final round at Augusta in 1996, for me the finest example of how to close out a tournament that I've ever seen. A legend.

      He was arrogant on the course and didn't make friends with fellow pros but that's just how he had to approach the game to keep a competitive edge. Considering how successful he was I don't blame him one bit for doing what he had to in order to win. He's one of the greats and had become an amazing ambassador of the game.

      He learnt how to play on his own as a child,spent hours practicing on his own..I don't think he was arrogant, I think he was just super focused on trying to be the best he could be.
      He was very hard on himself,which came out in some unfortunate emotional moments.
      It's just great to see him chilled and relaxed now,very genuine and with a sense of humour.

    Watched him win Open in 92 and several other wins on the tour early 90s. Like many others growing up and playing then, was also a big big fan. Nice video.

    My Dad's favorite golfer and to me top 5 golfers of all time.He has the most heart of any champion and is a wonderful person.I wish he never stopped playing the game because even now he's better than he gets credit and I know he could win any tournament regardless of his age.

    Started golf because of faldo, won his first masters my golfing dad let me stay up on watch the play off..... Next morning I was hitting balls in the back field and I've been obsessed with the game ever since..... Used the same irons as faldo, dreamed I could hit the ball like him 😂 what a legend, a British sporting icon.. Great man

    The funny thing about Faldo's part-time years is that he'd often have a rust-filled dreadful first round, then follow it with a decent second.

      Nick was a true great without a shadow of doubt but Hogan won more majors and wrote the Bible on golf instruction almost from scratch! { no pun intended ). Plus the fact he came back from that car crash which nearly killed him and went on to win Majors. I am not decrying Nick Faldo's achievements in anyway. I think the golf he played in the World Match Play in 1991 was beyond compare! I would still put Hogan just slightly ahead of him though.

    Nick got too thick and too tight.

    • @andrewrobinson8305
      @andrewrobinson8305 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      True to some extent.
      When he bulked up at the start of ‘91, his swing did start to get narrower.
      He went from being a fairly long hitter to a progressively shorter hitter.

  • @spencertaylor6330
    @spencertaylor6330 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Took a huge risk to become even better. Back in the day everyone thought he was mad but it paid off. More popular and interesting now he doesn't have to get that stupid white ball round the course.

      He really isn’t, that’s just the old Fleet Street portrayal of him.
      He fell out with the press early on, and they spent most of their time thereafter gunning for him.

      No more than any other pro golfer. You've got to be a very narcissistic self centred arrogant and over confident prick to succeed as a pro golfer. Signing autographs and smiling occasionally is just a facade they put up to get better contracts.
