I love watching the videos and had high hopes for this one once it broke loose. One thing you may want to think about though is pulling the injectors to pour the marvel mystery oil into the cylinders that away you know for sure that all cylinders get oil into them and then leave them out until after you have spun the motor over a few times so that you do not hydro lock the motor.
While the starter was off you might have tried to hook jumper cables to the starter to see if the starter motor spins and the bendix drive fully engages. I also agree with a post earlier to open the injector lines to make sure its not hydro locked and may help spin the engine. Don't give up on it, you are close to success.
Marcel Ledbetter has 10 siblings... Ardell, Bernell, Raynell, WL, Lanell, Odell, Udel, Marcel, Claude, Nugene, & Clovis. Jerry Clower had clean HILARIOUS family stories about everyone of the Ledbetter's he grew up with, including Uncle Versy & Aunt Pet & his Jerry's brother Sonny I miss Jerry Clower's CLEAN HUMOR, WIT, WISDOM, & HILARIOUS FAMILY STORYTELLING so much!!! I probably have 10 or 15 CDs & probably 20 cassette tapes of his I used to take with me on the road when I was a truck driver. Listening to all his stories for some reason, always made me feel close to home, especially when I was gone for 2-3 weeks & got to missing home!!! Much love from Mobile Alabama.
I operated one just like that in Nevada except it was all wheel drive. Great piece of equipment. Be great to see it revived. Love your videos, keep it up.
Easiest un-stick I ever had was an Oliver 60 that sat several seasons with the exhaust uncovered. Couldn't budge that engine no matter what we tried. I bought a gallon can of CRC-556, used some vacuum tubing to siphon the cylinders full (nasty tasting stuff), gave it 24 hours. Next day, pulled the starter, put a bar in the flywheel and broke it loose with one hand. Worked it back and forth until I got a full turn on the crankshaft, and started putting it together. Drove it out of that farm lot that day, after cleaning the ignition components and de-gunking the carb. And replacing the oil in the crankcase. Drained about a gallon of 'clear' water off the bottom before getting any oil. Those injectors look like they'd be easy enough to pull. I'd consider trying that approach again.
old guys rule! that was a tuff one, when he fell i went right into prayer im glad he's ok . you sure give what fur but well Hank can't win them all great video God bless
Do a voltage check when the starter is engaged. it may need the 3 batteries and clean connections to have enough power available for the starter to do its job. Great video, hope Wiley's back is not to sore. That fall could have been a lot more serious.
I was thinking as y’all were pouring the MMO into the intakes that y’all were going to hydro lock it. Next time pull the injectors out and try to spin it over which will blow any excess fluid out of the cylinders. I’m glad that Wylie wasn’t seriously hurt during that fall.
Watching y'all two guys crank up old heavy equipment both of y'all do real good both of y'all know what y'all doing I'll do a good job at it you're always making me laugh what y'all say
Great video new subscriber here.I love the fact that you are doing this to help out the gentleman that ownes this, for free, thats really kind of you both and it restores my faith in man kind..so a big thank you to you both for helping out this gentleman stay safe and see you in your next video.
Hank just a tip I hope might prove useful in the future is that each individual valve guide has a cup shaped seal with a hole in the center on it for the valve stem. This stops oil from the rocker assembly and case migrating down the valve stems and getting burnt which can cause carbon build up and emission problems. Because of that, if the valve stem seals are in half decent condition they should and probably will prevent any lubricating oil sprayed on them from penetrating into the guide much less down to the head of the valves so you probably wasted your time and some oil doing it. The only place that lubricating oil should have gone is straight down the oil return drains into the sump. Judging by the discoloration around the bottom of the hole corroded through the exhaust manifold, that engine was exposed to some water penetration so there probably wasn't a rain cover on the exhaust at some point. If that is the situation it should be the exhaust manifold that gets removed rather than the intake because the exhaust is where the water would have entered.
Mad mad props to you Wiley. You falling on that piece of equipment could've been a lot worse sir!...please both of you be careful. I absolutely enjoy the videos you two put out, and always look forward to seeing what next adventure ya'll uncover, but please lets try to avoid hospital visits, okay? Keep the videos coming, and above all God bless you both.
You may be able to turn the crank backward, away from the stuck point by using the fan, now that it is beginning to free up. If you Can turn it backward that way, it might just take several tries to get it past the tough part. Also, you might also try using more batteries to give that starter a little more punch.
I am sure that I, like MILLIONS of Hamiltonville-Berg-Township-Farm-Village-Hamlet viewers are wondering: after the last, loading disaster, video - is it "Will It Run?" OR "Will It Blow Up???" Stay tuned for the shock ender where Wiley becomes a hero (yet again!)! Seriously, looking forward - you guys always have interesting content! 😎
Its behaving like a tractor I acquired thats cyllinders were full of rainwater. Turn over a bit but then locked up TIGHT.I pulled the plugs and got a bath.Like the other comments say, pull the injectors and it'll likely spin over. Its not stuck. Most diesels have very little room to allow the lubricant to go.A tablespoon full might even be too much. The amount you put in? way too much.It will leak down but could take quite awhile.Pull the injectors and let er spit it out.I came out well with my tractor, its still running great.
Where the crankshaft pulley is bolted on, try to use an impact grade socket on a long breaker bar. I used that on a CJ-2A Jeep (1948) that was locked up, it freed it. (L- 134 ci cast iron flat head) and, Righty tightly turns it counter clockwise, the direction you want.
Gutted you guys didn't get this one working especially after Wiley got put on his backside by it glad he's ok tho 👍🏻thanks for sharing Hank best wishes to you both🙏
Those belts are in good enough shape to see if you can get it running, then if you get it running, then change or replace anything that needs it. Also take out the aircleaner to let it breath, as the ones in it are no good garranted. It's not like there is a huge dust problem to worry with. Then as with everything else that needs changing, get a set to put back in it.
Putting Marvel Mystery Oil in the cylinders is great for a gas engine, but may have a negative effect on a Diesel because of the compression being higher, you may have hydrolocked the cylinder that got the most. I wish you well guys, I hope Wiley isn't too badly hurt after falling onto that sharp corner, I know it was embarrassing for sure 🙂
As many engines I have seen you guy try to bar over. You need the universal starter hole barring tool. It bolts in place of the starter and turns with socket
Once it is hydro locked. the easiest remedy would probably be to loosen the injector crabs (probably no need to actually remove them) to let all of that MMO out.
Thanks for the great video again sorry that it didn't work out this time you're still the best one tip I can give you if you only put in the bolds of the starter and let them stick out a little and you're laying something across that little braker bar you move you're leverage point higher so wiley doesn't fall any more I hope he has no problems after the fall and also try to spray liquid wrench in ware it was hard to get the mystery oil in that stuff works on any thing Thanks Hank and Wiley for a other entertainment video can't wait to the next one God bless 🙌
Just think about this. How many tons of metal SCRAP do you get up and running again, sold to someone at a good price so they can get their work done. In this day when the blue collar are being squeezed for every penny, you guys are providing a HECK of a service. Thanks y'all.
Should have added that the line up of their other battery tools has given me very good service, the air compressor might of might not work for you as it has a ten minute on duty cycle time , but is so handy , I have several for my fleet
Suggestion. Go to Harbor Freight and get a one gallon garden sprayer. Remove tip end of hose, Will give you 1/4 inch hose to get into tight spots like that intake port, or sparkplug hole. Different sprayers for different fluids.
My dad falls all the time when we’re working on equipment. Lol always makes me nervous, but he always pops back up and carry’s on like it didn’t even happen. 😂
With an open stack the odds are WAY against running without a LOT of work and worry. And Austin/Western was the only all wheel drive (including the front end) for a long time. Probably a lot more now. I'm out of the diesel loop and into shorter grass mode. Listen to Tommy, Gina and Wiley and GBWYall!
Good attempt but a few mistakes- pouring oil into intake without pulling injectors will hydraulic it - if you see a machine thats been parked up with no rain cap on exhaust stack means its going to be tough, in the future I would suggest to pull the injectors or glow plugs, pour oil or rust eater into cylinders and let soak as long as possible -good luck on the next one
Wiley hope you're doing okay buddy, that was one heck of a battle bump you took to try and save this old iron! Hank, love both you guys and the laughs you bring us. Thanks for being yourselves....just two buddies having fun wrenching on old iron. God bess!
Always love your videos, should look at maybe getting a extendable indexing prybar, gearwrench make a nice one. Can adjust the end of it to get different angles out of it. Keep the videos coming
Hope Wiley's ok. Ben there done that but atlases no one was there with a camera to see it, but I still jumped up and looked around to see if ant one saw me hit the dirt. lol
The Austin-Western Pacer 100 and 200 all wheel drive. It could drive straight up a vertical wall. They came with Detroit Diesel engines the 100 had a 4-71 & the 200 had a 6-71. ChiefD
Y’all should invest in a borescope camera that you can Bluetooth to your phone . It’s a small camera that bends and flex’s so you could take out a fuel injector and point it in the cylinder and see if their is rust buildup in the cylinders . I got one you can Bluetooth to my phone camera for $20 off of Amazon.
I’m a 30 year Mack diesel mechanic and you guys have to be careful about pouring stuff down the cylinders too much on top the pistons can cause “hydraulic lock”
I really enjoy watching the 2 of you breathing a new lease of life into machinery previously considered only fit for the scrapyard. Have you thought about towing to try and turn the engine over?
Well, it looks like the rocker arm should come off, then the injectors. Squirt some mystery oil in injector pockets, and tap on each valve with a soft mallet to unstick any valve. Take the fan blade off, get an impact socket on the crankshaft bolt, and turn it clockwise with at least a 2-foot black iron cheater pipe. Repeat this until it moves somewhat freely. Soak injectors in clean fuel, take injector lines off blow them out with air, and spray some brake cleaner through them. Drain the fuel tank, replace fuel filters, and blow the line to the fuel tank out. Clean out the water separator if it has one. Look up the valve settings. Replace fan belts, and check the radiator for water, rust color, and oil traces. If ok then top it off if needed. Make sure all batteries are at full charge and load test them. Have some heavy-duty jump cables handy, and a can of good starting fluid too. Replace air filters, and check for critters in there. Give it another shot after all that.
worked on galion motor graders in viet nam had the privaledge of putting one back together after it hit a land mine blew battery, one wheel , chain drive air cleaner and misc stuff had a 4-71 detroit in it
Putting the magic oil in the intake will let it in the bore if the valve is open. Spraying the base of valve spring won't let lube in as it has a seal. Possibility if water got in it can't be compressed like air so appears as stuck.
Each cylinder has a cup and each cup has an injector and a glow plug. Hence the reasoning for three batteries. Pull the injector or whole cup but try not to mess with the glow plugs. IH loves there pre-heat but if it's working don't use either, KABOOM, head gasket eater. What I've done in real cold weather was instead of using glow plugs is to heat the intake manifold and head with a torch for a few minutes and a small puff of da-crack really helps if it ain't been run in awhile.
11:41 "scared me, and I ain't scared of nothin". 🤣 I'm gonna start using this one lol. Just wait till you accidentally hit that starter with the wrench on the right there.
Hello Yankees under the fan where there are the 2 belts normally there is the big nut which holds the crankshaft pulley there I think that with the truck key you should be able to turn your engine Subject to try
Sometimes you can let sit with transmission fluid and Marvel or diesel for a month or so and come back later and try it again. EVEN Vinegar will eat the rust off and it will turn over they say vinegar will do it. Just add some vinegar to your mix and it will eat the rust and then turn over.
Hi from uk Hank and Wiley👋👍 well we cant win them all mate this goes to show that the ones that fired straight up arent set up for this is one of a few that have failed to move past that full revolution😢 but maybe in time she may give it up and spin🤔?? Who know lol and why not try putting a bit pipe in the marvels oil bottle and hang it and then get it all in cylinders ? I thought you said you and Wiley where mechanics 😂😂 lol I love it when you dig the comment section lol pmsl 👌 thanks for your time and be safe see you soon👍👋
🎶A little early birdy gave my head a squirrely whirly and asked me of I needed a ride!🎶 You gotta keep your Whiley in good working condition or else you won't be playing with anymore machines for a bit. :)
Maybe the Marvel Oil has hydro-locked the engine at tdc. You could check each valve by pressing down on each of them with a screwdriver, or even a hammer. You could try removing all the injectors if water or oil is in the cylinders..
That was great Hank and Whilley that was great loved it never miss a video and can't wait for next one Whilley you are a man's man I would have been cussing up a storm when I fell I would have put it in gear and pulled it with another pice of equipment on the farm. Thanks guys great job but a fail.
Dang it! Dam good try Boys. I know that IH Engine and they are pretty built proof. It may have grabbed the sleeve and moved the sleeve and hit the top of the Head or just more soaking and back and forth rocking and she will go I think, I hope you re visit this at some point I just have a feeling you are very close. It don't help Wiley any but I felt for ya man when the mule kicked you. You Boys stay safe your Fans need you!
When you were putting the marvel mystery oil in, you could have just left the manifold attached, took off the hose and poured the fluid in that, then crank it enough to allow oil to run into cylinders. Or just let it set and hope it leaked enough in to lubricate those cylinders.
Love watching these vids! Halfway through yous trying to bar that engine over, removing the accessory drive belts would’ve made spinning that old girl over a bit easier. Seeing how rusted and seize the alt looks
Yeah and if it has hydraulics bleed the pressure off the tank. However, setting for a long time them ol' boyz usually bleed themselves 🤦♂️ but ya never know. 😁
Just always remember that's age comes with experience,So don't listen too all the inexperienced that ever turn wrenches before,it takes Real Old Elders that has the experience, keep up the Real Videos!! Love All Hamilton Farm Video's!!
I did some thing like this with a old boat 🚤 fork lift flat head engine but I used wD40 and poured it down in the cylinders and let it sit for three days put my big bracket baron the cal shaft and kept move it back and forth I could hearths rust in the cylinders it freash gas in it and it ran smoked a bit but ran sold it one later.
If you got a cylinder full of mystery oil from pouring it into an open intake valve you're not going to get it to spin. Oil don't compress. Either have to pull injectors or tighten the adjustment on one valve per cylinder so it won't completely close and push the oil out. It may leak down past the rings into the crankcase but that could take a while.
Now were talking the dude is working, I love it.
Great effort Wiley and Hank. No one was killed in the making of this video. Stay safe you two, and God bless!
Веселый дед и хитрый дед!)) Я рад, что вы находитесь в добром здравии и хорошем настроении!

I love that shirt Willey's wearing, this thing making oil🤣🤣
Thanks! Links to purchase is in video description
@@HamiltonvilleFarm thanks Hank, your awesome brother 👍👍👍

Contact TH-camr Diesel Creek he might be looking for parts for his Galion grader
Pretty sure he’s finished with Cristine
and the only thing in common with diesel creek and this one is the company name
Probably diesel creek will be interested to buy this one
He finished his grader
This one is larger then his

Hank just a tip I hope might prove useful in the future is that each individual valve guide has a cup shaped seal with a hole in the center on it for the valve stem.
This stops oil from the rocker assembly and case migrating down the valve stems and getting burnt which can cause carbon build up and emission problems.
Because of that, if the valve stem seals are in half decent condition they should and probably will prevent any lubricating oil sprayed on them from penetrating into the guide much less down to the head of the valves so you probably wasted your time and some oil doing it.

Hank you have a great guy in Wiley - look after him well. Give the Galion another go - graders are a cool piece of equipment...
Gee I do hope Wiley recovers well after that slip, I bet it left a bruise. As always it made a great video guys. Safe travels bro

Could be hydro locked. You could pull the injectors and see if it will spin over then.
Hank just get behind that Galion and have Wiley dump the clutch push the heck out of it, you can do it!
A real country comedian Jerry Clower was. I still have his CD's
Appreciate you gentleman taking the time to make these Awesome Video's
We appreciate you taking the time to watch. Thank you.
You could make a barring tool for turning over the engine using the Bendix of an old starter.
I love your content so much
11:41 "scared me, and I ain't scared of nothin". 🤣 I'm gonna start using this one lol. Just wait till you accidentally hit that starter with the wrench on the right there.
Cut bottom of the bottle to make a funnel or gear lube bottle with a hose and it can also be a gravity feed for fuel too
Hello Yankees under the fan where there are the 2 belts normally there is the big nut which holds the crankshaft pulley there I think that with the truck key you should be able to turn your engine Subject to try
I may not be a mechanic but I know this thing is making Oil.👊🏾🤣
Tip from sold mechanic Pour coke in cylinder let it sit for a few days the acid in the coke eats the rust. Sounds crazy but it worked when I tried it.
🎶A little early birdy gave my head a squirrely whirly and asked me of I needed a ride!🎶
You gotta keep your Whiley in good working condition or else you won't be playing with anymore machines for a bit. :)
Did you check the starter to see if it would spend over while it's off the equipment
They might give you the beer joint with that thing
Maybe the Marvel Oil has hydro-locked the engine at tdc. You could check each valve by pressing down on each of them with a screwdriver, or even a hammer. You could try removing all the injectors if water or oil is in the cylinders..
That was great Hank and Whilley that was great loved it never miss a video and can't wait for next one Whilley you are a man's man I would have been cussing up a storm when I fell I would have put it in gear and pulled it with another pice of equipment on the farm. Thanks guys great job but a fail.
Love watching u and wiley doing will it starts
Man, First Claude Gray, then Manfred Mann, Hank's really showing one incredible Playlist! 😄
Edit: I swear I can feel that fall Wiley took in my soul!
Good call. I think we may try that next time
Yeah and if it has hydraulics bleed the pressure off the tank. However, setting for a long time them ol' boyz usually bleed themselves 🤦♂️ but ya never know.
😁
Wiley be careful brother. Ugh. I felt that
Yeah.. I genuinely felt bad for him.
Yes sir I knew who Marcel Ledbetter was cause he run em out of that beer joint with that lightweight McCoullah chain saw (according to Jerry Clower )
Y'all need one of those latus sticks with homemade markings on it for your fuel checking gauge measuring stick. For tank checking purposes.
Take picture of what your doing before you take it apart, really helps when you put it back together
Geez tell Wiley to be darn careful he could’ve hurt himself even more love watching all of y’all in the same videos
