Great box for a low price. Just installed android 9 on it and it runs even better now. My disadvantage is the lack of an extra usb port. I ordered a usb splitter box with 3 ports and i will let you know if that will work with my airmouse and usb stick. One other point is the choice of the default launcher, i am using sideload channel launcher 2 now in witch you can custimise everything including your background. It would be nice to set that as the default launcher. For the rest only positive. There are also apk files you can sideload on it. One of my reccomandations is CX File explorer. Runs very fast on the box and you can easily set up an account in the cloud with the webdav protocol. CX can also do a cleaning performance of large unnessacery files and cache files. The box also reconizes a usb stick of 64 gb so the storage of only 8 gb isn't a problem anymore.
having a USB splitter without it being powered externally will limit your USB connectivity due to voltage issues, always use a USB port splitter with is powered externally.
Never had any problems with power issues. And yes, apps can be stored on the USB drive if you define it as internal memory instead of external memory. In the meanwhile this box is used for pure streaming in the living room, I have another box now with more memory and storage.
A disadvantage (since you asked) : No ethernet port. Whether or not that is a disadvantage is practice I don't know. But it seems to me that it would be a good thing to have a rock solid, works every time, all the time, bandwidth to burn, connection to complement WiFi. I am interested in comments because that is the only thing putting me off getting one of these.

Mi Box works great only thing that you will need to get if you have a 4k Tv is a usb ethernet cable, it makes the resolution alot better. It cost maybe 15 dollars.

This is the best Certified Android Box so far after NVIDIA Shield. If you can afford then surely go for NVIDIA otherwise this is still the best pick. Yes, It is low on RAM and ROM. But apart from those it has something in it called DRM L1 license which you won't find in other brands. Those who are looking to play PUBG on this box can look for other boxes. But if you want to experience heavenly AV quality over Netflix,youtube other streaming options then this box is just for you. This box will get regular OTAs whenever it is available. CONS : This box lacks Ethernet port. There should be at least 2 USB ports in the box one of which should be of usb3.0 compatible. Front notification light on the box is too faint, I can hardly see it glowing.
I noted you had 2 firmware updates in your notifications One of those will be for those having issues with wifi stabilty as you pointed out out in your rundown ..So yeah thank me later lol
when you playing forward or backwards on youtube, a loud sound will be heard when it starts playing. even when the sound is switched off. I read that the box 3 also suffered from this

I was a huge backer of the MiBox S, but I have switched to Firestick 4K after trying one out, they are honestly better devices. Still it is a great option if you like the Android TV platform.

Will it play 4K, 10 Bit, HDR10...all that jazz from the flash drive or portable external drive and do flash drives need to be FAT format? I generally reformat my flash drives to NTFS because of the file size limitations of exFat and/or Fat32. Obviously full UHD movie files are going to be greater than 4.32 gb so the drive has to be NTFS format. I have a 4K Firetv and it won’t read NTFS formatted drives. I hope all of what I said makes sense to you all. It sounds correct in my head. Lol
I saw your video and bought one, to test it myself. For me it was a disappointment because it does not work well with 4K resolution as advertised. I like the idea but it is not an alternative to a Chromecast Ultra, unfortunately.
Hi Angelos, yes, you can connect a combo (haven't tested this model in particular, but most of them work without any troubles). And this will of course consume your only available USB port.
Great box, especially when you can get it discounted. I bought 3 of them before Christmas for $30 each. The only real issue I have is I can't find a decent universal remote to link it with. Even the Logitech Harmony is an issue.

Just buy a nVidia shield. Everything else is just a waste of money. Mibox's suffer from audio and video sync issues if you have a receiver or soundbar hooked up. The shield allows you to sync it system wide through the settings. People say the mibox is 2nd to the Shield. Sure it is but it has been lapped 10 times.
This is not a cheap 'TV box' ....and with 2gb+8gb, come on dude.......really ! For around the same money, and 4gb+64gb the A95X Max wins hands down and is far more reliable.
Most likely it is; Don't forget that some of the certifications cost money, and this is why we get mediocre hardware. But yeah - I am also sticking to other kind of TV boxes.
I'm an old school noob. Sorry in advance. I currently use both my Fire stick and my old Western Digital Live TV to play content from my office computer to my non smart TV. I am looking to update the Western Digital device. I'm not sure that this device can replace it, but hopefully you can point me in the right direction. Thank you!
The Fire TV stick works in a similar way to the Mi Box S. The advantage here is the availability of Google Play store and Chromecast. But if you are happy with your setup - keep it.
The only reason I got this thing is because whatever OS Samsung has, it's painfully slow. Like scrolling thru the apps takes ages, sometimes I have to press a button 5 times to get the TV to do something, it's just horrible.
The one that I have bought a few days ago does not have 4K in the resolution list The highest in the list is 1080. Appreciate some input on this problem especially when I bought it I was attracted to the writing on the outer orange carton that says it’s capable of 4K hdr
Chromecast or screen mirroring doesn't work properly at all. Otherwise its a great android tv box for the price. Almost every app or games work properly enough.

4k streaming Netflix is the only reason to buy this box as the specs are poor and the 8gig memory is almost unusable if you want to use kodi and streaming apks.
to be honest , this is the best allround android box for the money on thr market , i have one - streaming with netflix , prime , vavoo (kodi fork) and casually playkng asphalt 8 with no problem :)

@@TechMishka my favorite personal is the shield but I'm a box seller as the fire sticks I do really well them selling them. The wifi chips on the Amazon devices are really good.
I have one, but it has Wifi issues. There's a lot of complaints about this issue. My solution was to plug in a usb hub with Rj45 connection and plug in a ethernet cable so the internet connection was stable.
My shield fucking sucked had pro version and USB stick 3.0 don't know if it was a dud or what apps where playing by them self , sideloading things sucked stopped working in 5 months was lucky bb let me get refund

yes, but only if you use kodi player (go to system settings & change settings level to expert from the bottom left > audio output > enable passthrough and choose the formats that your sound system supports) it even has the ability change every multichannel format to dd 5.1 if you system supports that only (kodi is a truly capable player)
This box is nothing but hype and bordering deceptive advertising. The Android TV system forces you to sideload anything that might be worth putting on this box. And not even allowing a working browser?!?!? How are we supposed to search from their parent company Google? Next up is the Atmos that they advertise. It works... IF you have your own files that you can play. It does not Stream anything in Atmos. There are only 3 services in the US that do. And NONE of them work with Atmos on this box.The Vudu app only works at 1080P, therefore Atmos will not even work on that app, either. For a box with this little memory you should be paying no more than $30-35. 4K works... with Google and TH-cam. I sideloaded Amazon Prime, and this box can't handle 4K from them. It sounded like, and I was really hoping, that this would be the one and only box that I would need. But this one falls WAY short.

What is 8GB enough for? Can you download apps on added USB stick? Normally apps can only be launched from main hard drive..

Yeah, ethernet port would have been fine. So would have been extra USB ports, but ...
It can be done with a cost.First usb splitter then Add a usb to ethernet adapter .Some even mention their internet speed has increased.

I use flipkart marq 4k tv with built in certified android TV. It is cheap and awesome. Rs 30000 for 43 inch 4k tv with 3 years warranty.

Sync problems ? Really ? Does this thing do Dolby Digital for my AV-receiver ? ( DD 5.1 , AC3 ) Especially with Netflix ?

This is not a cheap 'TV box' ....and with 2gb+8gb, come on dude.......really ! For around the same money, and 4gb+64gb the A95X Max wins hands down and is far more reliable.
Most likely it is; Don't forget that some of the certifications cost money, and this is why we get mediocre hardware.
But yeah - I am also sticking to other kind of TV boxes.
A95X has only 1GB RAM and 8GB storgae in Sweden anyway....and only Android 7.1...

I'm an old school noob. Sorry in advance. I currently use both my Fire stick and my old Western Digital Live TV to play content from my office computer to my non smart TV. I am looking to update the Western Digital device. I'm not sure that this device can replace it, but hopefully you can point me in the right direction. Thank you!
The Fire TV stick works in a similar way to the Mi Box S. The advantage here is the availability of Google Play store and Chromecast. But if you are happy with your setup - keep it.
Disadvantage: No Amazon Prime Video.
I remember someone mentioned that the ported app from Shield TV may be working. Have you tried that?

The only reason I got this thing is because whatever OS Samsung has, it's painfully slow. Like scrolling thru the apps takes ages, sometimes I have to press a button 5 times to get the TV to do something, it's just horrible.
What if my tv is only LED TV NOT a smart tv... is it compatible to use it?
Yeah you can use it as usual if you have an hdmi port.

The one that I have bought a few days ago does not have 4K in the resolution list
The highest in the list is 1080. Appreciate some input on this problem especially when I bought it I was attracted to the writing on the outer orange carton that says it’s capable of 4K hdr
Hmmm, could be that your monitor is 1080p; If that's the case - 4K won't show up in the menus.

Chromecast or screen mirroring doesn't work properly at all. Otherwise its a great android tv box for the price. Almost every app or games work properly enough.

@@umersalman1 No bro i tried with Xiaomi, Samsung and Motorola too. But it didn't worked properly. I mean to say it does connect with all of them but not as as smooth as it should there is lot of lag and unresponsive behaviour.

4k streaming Netflix is the only reason to buy this box as the specs are poor and the 8gig memory is almost unusable if you want to use kodi and streaming apks.
Yeah, I still wonder why they didn't go for the X2 models of Amlogic - they are not at all expensive...
to be honest , this is the best allround android box for the money on thr market , i have one - streaming with netflix , prime , vavoo (kodi fork) and casually playkng asphalt 8 with no problem :)
You can upgrade the storage with any USB storage.
A tip for you my friend, you can NOT stream Netflix in 4k with this box sadely, Nvidia Shield is the only android box that can do that

You can connect mouse and keyboard. You can also run google Chrome but it is officially not compatible with Android TV, so you have to sideload it.
I think the 4k fire stick is better if u have it hook up right.

I have one, but it has Wifi issues. There's a lot of complaints about this issue. My solution was to plug in a usb hub with Rj45 connection and plug in a ethernet cable so the internet connection was stable.
I also had some issues at the start, and then things got better with after the first firmware update.
Nothing redeeming about this over a Firestick 4K. Buy a Shield if you want something more powerful.
My shield fucking sucked had pro version and USB stick 3.0 don't know if it was a dud or what apps where playing by them self , sideloading things sucked stopped working in 5 months was lucky bb let me get refund

@@ALIENSInGAMES Correct and it's also the most powerful device that can play games, stream games from a PC and play video and audio files from a USB drive attached to it. The fire stick is the best pure streaming device for much cheaper so if you want the extra power and features of the shield, you have to pay more.

yes, but only if you use kodi player (go to system settings & change settings level to expert from the bottom left > audio output > enable passthrough and choose the formats that your sound system supports)
it even has the ability change every multichannel format to dd 5.1 if you system supports that only (kodi is a truly capable player)
This box is nothing but hype and bordering deceptive advertising. The Android TV system forces you to sideload anything that might be worth putting on this box. And not even allowing a working browser?!?!? How are we supposed to search from their parent company Google? Next up is the Atmos that they advertise. It works... IF you have your own files that you can play. It does not Stream anything in Atmos. There are only 3 services in the US that do. And NONE of them work with Atmos on this box.The Vudu app only works at 1080P, therefore Atmos will not even work on that app, either. For a box with this little memory you should be paying no more than $30-35. 4K works... with Google and TH-cam. I sideloaded Amazon Prime, and this box can't handle 4K from them. It sounded like, and I was really hoping, that this would be the one and only box that I would need. But this one falls WAY short.
