    This is how you do a concrete slump test, test for air-entrainment, and take concrete cylinders to test strength at 7 and 28 days.
    We're pouring a bridge deck for a walking path and the concrete was tested to make sure it was within specifications.
    The spec was 4500 psi concrete, 6 inch slump, 4.5 - 7.5% air entrainment.
    See how the test turned out in the video.
    Then watch Part 2 - How to pour and finish a concrete bridge deck.

    I'm involved primarily in street and highway construction, so our concrete gets tested every day. The ready mix we use most is always low on air. It makes me wonder how much concrete they've sent to residential and commercial jobs (where tests aren't done) with low air. It's a pretty terrible ready mix, all things considered.

    I learned the testing process a long time ago, I have never seen a person count 25 so fast in my life, I tried to keep up with that.. He is good!!! Mike, you shouldn't be asking that guy questions while he is counting out to 25... LOL

      For real though, as a tester, i wish i could master holding a conversation and counting. It feels so rude having to finish or stop what i'm doing before responding to what is likely small talk. Seems like a decent tester, his rodding speed is pretty fast but the precision is a bit off. Regardless, i'm sure the accuracy was near perfect.

      It was right u shake the AirPod at most twice and tap the gauge to get out trapped air

  • @nobleroofinggeneralcontrac7961
    @nobleroofinggeneralcontrac7961 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Scientific. I did not get the way they tested for air? Look like he purged out the air with water, pump air in then helped the gauge along by rapping the test cylinder? Right on ;) That is why I am not a scientist.

    • @canonicaltom
      @canonicaltom ปีที่แล้ว

      Pressure equalization method. You pressurize the fixed air volume in the top of the meter to a known pressure, then open the valve to the mix. The initial pressure will only drop if there's entrained air to compress, so 0% air would not change the gauge reading, but 7% for example would show a pressure drop as the air bubbles, which are initially at atmospheric pressure in the mix, compress slightly.

    I get tested all the time by the ready mix company. Back in the big commercial days we got tested for every pour. Nothing worse then pouring a 4 inch slump in the summer. At least till the tester was gone.

    Tester was supposed to run a yard or two out before filling his wheelbarrow. Too lazy to push it back to his truck, so he tested off the front end of the load. Never do that. Samples cylinders are supposed to be filled and rodded in thirds, not halfs. Didn’t see a temperature taken on the concrete. Talk about blowing through a job…..

    • @Samson1117
      @Samson1117 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Your comment about filling cylinders in thirds is completely wrong. 4x8 inch cylinders, according to ACI is filled in halves. 6x12 inch cylinders are the only cylinder filled in thirds.

  • @HayabusaRydr
    @HayabusaRydr ปีที่แล้ว +6

    He needs a new gauge! If you have to tap it, it's not accurate! Something is binding up the movement of the needle.

    • @neildavis167
      @neildavis167 ปีที่แล้ว +1
