Loving the music!!! You've sorta inspired me to play the hurdygurdy myself, do you have any tips when renting on what to look out for/ get when I'm renting?

When renting (or buying a beginner instrument) you should look for a smooth playing and well set instrument since that greatly improves motivation when playing. Most importantly the wheel should be perfectly round and smooth, the tangents should be adjustable (and kind of parallel when tuned correctly) and mechanical tuning pegs are a huge plus aswell since you will be tuning alot.
To be able to learn everything you might want to learn the instrument should have atleast one of each kind of strings (drone, chanter , trumpet). But more different strings (or kapos) allow for more diversity and help to keep motivated. If possible you should check the trumpet and that the sensitivity is easily adjustable by the tuning peg set in the bridge.

Whats making the buzzing sound every now and then?

It's made by the trumpet string.
Those are the upper pair of strings seen in the video. They produce a constant note and rest on a moving piece of wood rather than a bridge. When the string swings enough the piece of wood rattels on the corpus and creates the buzzing sound.
This is achieved on purpose by giving the crank a little impuls.
