  • I found one of the best text Guides I have ever seen covering the topic of vertical antennas. Whilst it is aimed at 160 metres, much of it is applicable to all the HF bands. Let me take you to the link so that you can benefit from the excellent information provided.

Hi Peter, very interesting video again! I'll grab the article from the link as I'm on the market to buy a vertical antenna, this article is very welcome. Cheers and 73, Alexander PE0ALX

I learn something new in practically every video... Well done. Loading coils in this example.

The deep length of your garden works well for you and HAM radio.

Any metal object on top of the antenna will work it's called 'capacitance hat' I think. Great video and thank you for that document link, will check it out.

Another great video Peter. Can you briefly explain why the Diamond BB7V vertical you reviewed a while back doesn’t require radials? Simon, M7WWX.

Interesting video! Thanks for the link to the paper.. I just got my General Class license back in August and 160 meters is very interesting..As a matter of fact I have a friend that loves 160 meters...He lives on 160 if conditions are decent and he has sparked my interest in 160..

The antenna tends to work like, but not exactly, an EFHW. I have never found any benefit of using radials

The challenge with a coil in the center of a backyard vertical antenna is that if you need to move the tap on the coil (which I do often), you must take the antenna down. Unless you have a good ladder 😊

Thank you Peter. This paper is great. I have emailed Jim with thanks. I was absolutely bowled over by the variety of antennae at Waters and Stanton’s shop recently! You have a huge selection. Fair play but Brexit has put a spanner in the works. What were they thinking off?👍☘️EI3KY

Hi Peter, in a previous video for the Diamond bb7v vertical. you stated that the performance did not significantly improve with the addition of radials? i agree that most seem to be better with but have bought the BB7V for motorhome portable on the basis of no radials needed. thanks for the vids.

Great video, vertical antennas are my go to every time. I just made a short video myself with a 20m vertical ant , with 16 1/4 wave radials then same antenna with 32 1/8 wave radials and results using rbn.its on my qrz page if your interested.
    Many thanks Peter. 73 zl3xdj.
