    That's a very smart bag. I can see how one's brake levers could sustain damage if not folded inwards. Have a great trip. Cheers 👍🏼

    I’ll probably never get a chance to travel like that, but your tips on the pieces of cardboard and excluding family are well worth remembering!

    I see you didn’t wrap the chain over the t-bar with the black rubber? Is that just optional and not essential?

    i find the thru axle cannot use a rear derailleur protector. have you heard anything with the rear derailleur protection from people using this bag?

    I have the same Scicon bag, and have a high opinion of it. My bike has always been fine, and (like you) I haven't bothered with taking off the derailleur or even removing the disc brake rotors. The wheels are terrific, and I managed to wheel my bike all the way from Inverness station to the start of the Etape Loch Ness without incident. I might buy spare wheels at some point, though; they feel as if they might be the first thing to go. But so far so good!

    • @JulianHutchings
      @JulianHutchings  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually, one of my wheels was broken in transit on one trip; made it impossible to roll. I bought a set of 4 spares and now put one in the bag, just in case.

      @@JulianHutchings Am I right that you have dispensed with the "Horizontal Dropout Lock and Black Nut for AeroComfort 3.0 Bike Bag" as Scicon would have it?

    • @JulianHutchings

      I don’t know what that means! I do have 2 bags as the first one doesn’t take thru axles.

    Hi, how wide are your gravel bars at the widest points, ie the drops.
    Mine are 51cm, scicon recommend 50cm as max.
    Yours look a little wider than mine though?

    • @JulianHutchings
      @JulianHutchings  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, mine are 50cms. I loosen the brake levers and bend then inwards which helps protect them

    Hi Julian, I have a gravel bike that fit into same bag, however the tyres 40cm wide that are too big to fit into wheel compartment and front gravel dropbars are to wide that bag cannot zip/close properly. Do you have any solutions? Thanks

      I use different tyres. At the moment, 30mm on the front and 35 on the rear but I don’t ride much gravel, mostly roads although they are pretty poor in the UK

    That bag likely cost more than my bike is worth. America is so vast that you can get to a new location by car and never ride the same roads twice. A major upgrade to the bag would be to make it airtight and inflate it.

    Might make sense to invest in a bike specific hard case for travel. Will protect your bike with greater reliability than the type of bag you're using in this video. Yes it will be heavier but your bike is more likely to arrive at its destination intact.
