patreon is getting setup tonight for uncut one piece to ep 700! sorry for being so behind on youtube, im focusing on editing and uploading now! I got addicted LMAO
The best part about this episode is how every Straw Hat shows who they truly are in their (seemingly) last moments. Zoro, although beaten, still stands up to fight knowing he will lose. Brook protects his friends and always has to make a joke, even in the face of death. Usopp surprisingly stands his ground and fights even though he’s scared pissless. Sanji has to avenge his friends no matter what. Franky stands his ground and fights (just like against the train). Nami, knowing how weak she is, begs for help (just like in Arlong Park). Chopper sacrifices his humanity to protect his friends. Robin felt helpless against the power of the government just like she has her whole life. And Luffy crumbles when the real treasure, his friends, are taken from him and there was nothing he could do.
I swear after reading you comment the following thought was had...... "if oda makes the One Peice a big ass mirror on a teeny tiny island I'm gonna riot." lol
After 405, Oda literally took a break to torture us. Tbh, when I watched this, I was hoping Luffy can pull out something from the power of friendship. But I was dumbfounded. I just stared in shock, realizing how weak they are compared to the admirals and others. And Moria even warned them about meeting powerful people. Luffy didn't listen.
And now we're getting to feel this torture for the 2nd time in history...what a monumental occasion to rewatch episode 405 and getting to watch the next episode tomorrow
Pain last a few seconds, maybe even a few years, but it will go away without a trace. Suffering like that doesn't just hurt physically but mentally, and spiritually, and it even affects your future forever. Not many other characters in fiction in general, let alone anime, can go through so much suffering and still be able to move on.
The craziest part about kizaru is that he literally just toys with everybody he fights . He could’ve easily killed zoro no problem , but no he sits there & rather watch you panic & try your very best until you finally understand that’s all your efforts is more or less futile , he’s lowkey a sociopath.
I mean when you are strong as hell you would want to have a fun time fighting people. Just look at Saitama, he always lets the monsters go all out before oneshoting them to atleast feel any bit the thrill of battle.
What makes this more serious is that through the entirety of the show so far, Luffy has always fought his way out. He sometimes lost, but then came back and punched harder. This is the first time he was legit terrified and realized they couldn't win. This is the first time he's told everyone to just run, because Kuma was so much above their league.
Seeing Luffy losing his will to fight after seeing his last crew member get seperated from him hurts. It adds on when he starts to hitting himself on the ground and berates himself for not saving a single crew member. This arc hurts yet it is favorite out of all of the series

This is the first time to face with Strawhats the desperation and helplessness. From episode 1 till Thriller Bark arc, we witnessed how Luffy and the strawhats never gave up and won every time, and the peak in Enies Lobby arc beating CP9. I thought we were like the strawhats thinking nothing gonna beat up Luffy no matter what but no, no and no. They were super rookie with enormous power and will strength but still rookie. The world was actually really big. Luffy was not wrong saying in Skypiea arc that there were numerous monsters out there that could beat up Eneru. This time we really witnessed the difference between the world and the strawhats, and faced the defeat with them.
The animation and voice acting absolutely hit different these episodes. It's so soul crushing to the watcher, but beautiful and inspirational to the person who wants to be a voice actor and artist.
"How does this end in 2 episodes" unfortunately... sometimes the simplest answer is the correct one. And a complete and utter defeat happens to be that answer in this situation
Okay so that one HURT when zoro disappeared and we had to wait a week. Man he really could have been dead. No way in hell did we think he could survive a second meeting with Kuma. Then he just vanishes. It was terrifying
Man, I still get teary eyed when I watch this part. Reading this arc in the manga week to week was SO HARD. I felt so bad for Luffy. He literally just went through a power up to protect his crew and it came crumbling down shortly afterwards. The way they animated Luffy on the ground in tears broke my heart…definitely a very, very powerful moment in One Piece.
This was what Moria was talking about when he said the Straw Hats weren’t ready to face the overwhelming power of the new world. When he had that sadistic grin talking about how his entire crew died when he entered the new world, except Luffy didn’t even enter the new world and already got destroyed. Luffy if he didn’t train for 2 years would end up just like Gecko Moria.
I really like this arc and this moment in One Piece because it does something that was really rare (and still kinda his today in shonen manga): It humiliates the protagonists. Not anywhere too, at he end of the arc. It also serves as a snap back to reality, not only for the characters but for the readers as well. They can't always win, no matter how hard they try. This is what awaits them in the New World, and they were not prepared. Just overall great writing from Oda, as always.
