OBS Ford Check Engine Light, trouble code reading one an OBD1 EEC4 System

  • So I got a Check engine light on my 95 F 150 Flareside, well everyone knows about OBD2 First on Fords with EEC5 {electronic engine controle} but OBD1 is a lost art EEC 4 was the first true computer control system for Ford that did a lot of what the newer system's do today outside of streaming music and parking the car for you, but it did control things like air fuel ratio and timing along with other things' it came with an OBD1 port,{ I dont remember now but my guess is we just called it an OBD Port as there was no OBD2 yet} the port did the same thing and was shaped a little like an OBD2 but you cant hook up an OBD2 reader to it without an adapter, then you have to have a reader that will read an OBD1 system, I'll show you how to read the codes and maybe fix something along the way.
    We get a 126 code and that's a MAP {manifold absolute pressure} sensor, I'll show you what it looks like and how to replace it, there really is nothing to it.
    Dont forget merch, you can get that cool 10 MM shirt and always know where you 10 MM is, and ASG logo shirts as well at
    aintscaredgara...
    You can get the code reader from amazon
    www.amazon.com...
    And the extension cable as well

    Good job sir ! Just purchased the same scanner and extension cable. Silly that they don't come together ! I've had my 1995 F150 just over a year, it is a pleasure to work on. Inline 6 , 5 spd I plan to keep until death do us part. No matter how pretty today's trucks are I like to keep things simple and affordable. Thanks for posting !

    A length of 2x4 or long srewdriver wedged between the seatfront and the clutch pedal works good, then I record the readings with my phone until all the testing is done - then I go sit down with a coffee and the reader’s manual and review the test

    You can also run a jumper wire or paperclip from the single ground connection to the top right pin of the large connection (clip on top). Record or count the flashes of the engine light and write em down n look em up.
    like so:

    I've got a 90 f150 4.9 auto. Had running great but at idle 1.5 to 2 mins it had a hiccup. So minor I won't call it a miss. I planned on doing a fuel injection flush but hadn't bought the kit yet. My friend obsessed over the hiccup and sent it to a shop. When he brought it back it ran worse than before I changed the 10 year old spark plugs( that had welded them selves in the engine,) the wires, rotor and dist cap. Has never shown check engine light. After the shop had it I checked new plugs ( finger tight,) 5th new wire was pulled apart from the terminal end. I saw red paint drips all over so checked the balancer and saw they had slapped two red lines. One on the square notch cut out on the back side and one 1⃣ the tiny scribed line on the backside. The top timing marks on the gear cover were cleaned off. The bolt on plate with timing marks was filthy. I'm suspecting they timed it using the top marks and possibly the square notch. Both of which are wrong. On top of that I felt the gas pressure was low. I checked the pressure on the relief valve. Showed 0. Key on engine off several times and 0 psi. Started it and got 0 psi. Checked gauge on tire 35psi. Pulled line after filter and checked pressure. Key on engine off 10-20 times and got 30 psi. Left it for a while and it went to 20. Rear tank hasn't worked in decades. Going to make an adaptor to check pressure wo filter and see what it says. I think it should have 50 psi with the 4.9. I pulled the selector switch and found the plug was melted. I was surprised to see it is the front working pump and supply wire where the plug is melted and not the rear tank that is inop. If you have any tips or suggestions I'd appreciate them. Thanks

    • @AintScaredGarage
      @AintScaredGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds like your working on it, the Fuel PSI should be 60 on the 4.9 if it where a 5.0 it would be 30

    • @davidreynolds4684
      @davidreynolds4684 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AintScaredGarage I'm rigging a way to connect the gauge to the fuel line without the filter. I cut the input and output lines off the filter and will clamp fuel lines onto them and the hose manifold in my kit. Would the coffee can on the right inner fender leaking effect the vacuum on the pressure regulator? It has a bib broken. It is attached but not well and it hisses. I pulled the for hose off and no fuel but idle doesnt increase with me blocking the hose but it does a tiny bit when its sucking air.

    I got my Innovo Ford code reader in today along with the extension cable. Plugged the extension cable into the code reader and something just didn't feel right. Pulled the extension cable off the reader and noticed that a couple of those broad, flat pins on the code reader had been pushed into the body. Now I'm a 78 year old former electronics tech so I know I didn't "muscle" the two together. I don't know if the female connectors on the cable were too tight or if the male pins on the reader body just weren't secured properly. They were pretty loose when I pulled them out with some needle-nose pliers. If the code reader body had been screwed together then I could have disassembled it and repaired the pins. But, it was glued together so back it went to Amazon. Someone mentioned an Actron 9690 code reader. I'll have to give that one a try. I'm afraid to reorder that Innovo Ford code reader. The next one might be as bad as the first one I got.

    Will this work with a 91 Explorer 4.0l automatic 4x4 manual transfer case. Transmission won't go to 4th gear, and engine light comes on intermittently.
    I should add, trans doesn't shift to 4th. Doesn't even attempt it. Stays in 3rd, doesn't kick out and slip.
