With those older mechanical machines there could very easily be one specific reel position that when it lands on it, some mechanism is not engaging or releasing properly, there's a lot of different possibilities for an intermittent problem like this that may not show up until the game is played for quite a while. Nice looking machine the very clean on the outside. Dying to see what the inside looks like LOL. And then I keep watching and bingo, problem discovered. The minute I watched I could see that spring has been stretched out too much and probably didn't have the correct tension, and a drop or two of very light oil would probably help also. I would point out to them this wouldnt happen unless it was dropped or knocked over. Then trying not to admit it, they would try to go half on the cost to fix it again or pay for the part needing replaced. Something tells me they were rough with it or something got loose in transit since it is an old machine.
What I would have done is ask this guy if he wants to return the slot machine and get a partial refund or keep it because it's an antique and sold as is. Especially if he was told that during the transaction. Customer isnt always right.

Yes you're constantly learning even as an older gentleman, But there's absolutely no excuse for acting out that way. It's extremely embarrassing on his part. Pete Is doing gods work here man. I'd never let him in my store again that's for sure lol

I don't know what he was expecting from a machine that's nearly 100 years old. Even if parts were replaced when it was last restored things wear out. I think he was hoping you would pay for the entire cost of the repair. And to make matters worse you were upstaged by a parrot. 🤣 Gotta love Ruby!!

2:45 Is so perfect. I saw "Smith corona" and immediately thought of Carmelita by Warren Zevon. Then I started singing it in my head. "Well I pawned my smith corona, and I went to meet my man. He hangs out down on el Dorado street by the pioneer chicken stand."
SOME GUY LITERALLY PAWNED HIS SMITH CORONA 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I've been in a loyal Watcher of your show for about 3 years and I don't believe you were trying to rip him off with that slot machine it probably is something you can fix. That was classic at the end when you did your magic trick turning honey into Ruby and then she pooped, that was classic.

Pete the slot machine mystery is unique. However the I believe the reason the machine is working for you at your shop is because it was never meant to leave. Maybe the old man meant for you to have and keep it in your collection?..

As is, fix it yourself. I had a similar experience. My husband was a Karaoke host. He passed away in 2011 and left me with a Karaoke machine. A neighbor bought it for $1,000.00 and took it to he bar that purchased it. It was checked out at my home before it was transported. It worked perfectly. Photos were taken to ensure wires were where they should be. It didn’t work at the bar. Nothing, no sound. I didn’t know what was wrong, I didn’t build it. I was sorry but didn’t give the money back. I left the state and don’t know if they ever figured out what happened.

Yeah, exactly.. This is one of these things, wher eits buyer beware and as a buyer, you should be going over it and making sure you are happy with it.. Heck, i even see people in shops, where stock is brand new, and here they are opening up boxes to cheeck inside and then they leave the box that they opened and take one that is unopened. Customers are PIGS!!!!!!!

I think he's sincere about it. It makes no sense for him to drive 4 hours round trip and leave it behind without receiving a refund if he doesn't want to keep it. Maybe a little high strung, but I don't think he's scamming you. He wants it to end with a working machine.

THE SALE WAS LEGAL, AND THAT'S IT. HE KNOW'S THAT WHEN YOU BUY SOMETHING FROM A PAWN SHOP. IT DOESN'T COME WITH A WARRANTY. ESPECIALLY WHEN IT'S 90 YEAR'S OLD. IT'S LIKE ME BUYING A 90 YEAR OLD CAR, AND EXPECTING IT TO RUN LIKE NEW. THAT'S JUST NOT GOING TO HAPPEN UNTIL I SPEND THE MONEY NEEDED TO MAKE IT RUN LIKE NEW. I'VE DELT WITH PEOPLE LIKE HIM. WHEN SOME PEOPLE BUY SOMETHING OLD AND USED. IF IT BREAK'S. THEY YELL, COMPLAIN, AND START THREATENING JUST TO GET YOU TO PAY PART OF THE BILL TO FIX IT, BECAUSE THEY DON'T WANT TO PAY THE WHOLE THING THEMSELVES. THEY KNOW DARN WELL WHAT THEY BUY MAY NOT WORK RIGHT, SO THEIR THEATRICS IS JUST A LITTLE GAME THEY PLAY TO GET HELP PAYING FOR IT. SORRY. I COULD HAVE SAVED ALL OF THIS TEXTING BY JUST CALLING HIM A CHEAPSKATE, AND NO PEOPLE. I'M NOT YELLING OR MAD. I ALWAY'S TEXT IN CAP'S.👍

@@rafaelterrazas9957 There are two major problems with your statement. 1: Peter stated that this unit had been "fully refurbished" making an expectation of functionality rational and legal regardless of the paperwork. 2: more than one person has recognized this as a late 1980's reproduction, it that is true then there is "fraud in the Inducement" even if Peter did not know or realize it. That is a criminal offense.
