Linocut printmaking ''Duck Pond'' process by Emils Salmins ''

  • Printmaking process from when I was staying at a cabin in the woods, located in Latvia, near Aluksnes lake.
Design drawn with white pencil on black colored lino block.
This was an experimental technique for me, but it ended up so much easier to draw on black and to be able to see the final result before it's carved. And it definitely benefited the carving process, to better understand where the edges are more precise.
References used for this print comes from Ohara Koson book (japanese prints)
This and other prints are available at www.twolovers.shop/

This is a 'gift' to ALL who watch you create this stunning expression of your skills and your innate artistry - never stop exploring - and never stop sharing - we need exemplars like you more and more in this fractured and disjointed world. Thank you!

One of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen and I’ve been on the planet for 72 years. I’ve just got into linocuts and I’m not sure now if it has inspired me or make me think I should give it up!? Brilliant!

Thank you so much, it’s never to late. But to be fare I did my first carving a little bit more than two years ago, and i don’t have any education in this field only TH-cam videos from other people.

I like the way the tadpoles create a kind of gradient around the ducks head. Reminded me a bit of some escher pictures.

Just watched again for the 3rd or 4th time. I'm sharing the video. Do you teach, either online or in person? I'm specifically thinking of a course not so much in the entire linocutting process, but specifically how you carve. How to approach particular shapes. Because of the way you carve your prints are really clean and precise. You have an understanding of that, but of course beginners don't have that knowledge yet. Please think about it..

so beautifull!!! have you learned from asian woodcarving videos? jes it is an advantage to work in art befor starting linocuting. I wonder how you choose which part will be cut and which will be printed? I am afraid of starting complicat pictures bc of thinking I will loos the overview of the cut/print parts. maybe it is just a matter of trying.

Can I ask what Indian ink you use to pre-wash your lino? Is it a mix, it looks a lot thicker than standard ink? Mine just never comes out so black and even!
