- Today we take you on the BEST Thai street food tour here in Bangkok! We travel off the beaten path to the outskirts of Bangkok to Wang Lang Market in the Thonburi area.
We meet up with a very special friend of ours Gary @theroamingcook who is the ultimate food guru! He takes us to try things we have never had before and wow were we impressed!
We go to 4 corners of the market to try out authentic local foods in between the hustle and bustle! First up is our favourite northern dish Khao Soi (60 baht/$1.70)
Next up is central giant shrimp dumplings (60 baht/$1.70)
followed by Southern Hor Mok (Fish mousse red curry) and Kia Kling (Dried yellow curry) - 50 baht altogether.
North East Guay Jub Yuan (Vietnamese pork soup) (50 baht/$1.50)
and lastly the “broke snack” (Khanom Tang Taek) (15 baht/$0,45 each)

As I’m Thai. I love WangLang market so much. There are many kind of food and a lot of stuff to try and buy. I stayed at the small hotel nearby the market several times. Enjoyed buying many different kind of food to hotel and eat it all. Unfortunately, I’m not in Thailand at the moment. Thanks for your videos.

Hi Mikael! This is Wanglang market just on the outskirts of Bangkok center. If you take the get off at the Itsaraphap station on the BTS and take a short taxi ride there, its easy to find 😍Check the map link in the description 🤗

ถังแตก or tang taeg, literally means broken bucket but as an idiom, it means broke or poor.
the snack was originally sold in front of gambling parlor or horse racetrack. it was so cheap and filling that even the broke gamblers can enjoy it.
there's also a dish called kuaytiew tang taeg, or broken bucket noodle. it's the noodle soup with only vegetable but no meat in it.

Wanglang market located on the Chaopraya Riverside from there you can walk 3 minutes to the pier to cross to the Grand palace side or take the the boat 5 minutes to Wat Aroon - the temple of dawn and Wat Pho and it just 10 minutes from the grand palace side to Khaosan Road, this would be nice to spend day trip in the afternooon and dinner at Khaosan Road
Last time we visited the grand palace was almost 2 years ago, we have to go back again soon!😍

I have a history about the last snack you ate. Kanom Tang Taek (Tang means Bucket, Taek means Broken) The word Tang Taek Bucket broken. It is a word used to refer to people who are bankrupt or who have lost their bets. One day, a merchant invented a dessert recipe that was sold to gamblers. According to places such as boxing stadiums, gambling The formula that was invented is to be full, delicious, high energy (sweetness and sugar) and cheap price, so this kind of snack was born 😁😁🙏🙏

Have u been to Soi La Lai Sub or translate to Thai as "Melt your money". There are lots of delicious food and things to buy. It is located on Silom Soi 5 in the middle of Bangkok's busiest financial and business street "Silom". It opens only on weekdays because this is the market for office employees working on Silom Road. But if u are to eat there u must come before noon before noon break of office workers. It will be very crowded at that time. Explore it, it is one of Bangkok's oldest street food market in business area.

The dessert you eat is called "kanom tang taek". (broken bucket). Normally it is the cheapest dessert Thais look to when they have not much money to buy other food. But its quantity is huge. It is cheap because it has not much ingredients in it just sesame and sugar and coconut meat, but it will make you full. This is why Thais call it kanom tang taek. Tang Taek is a Thai slang which means broke or have no money. So when we have not much money we will buy this to eat. Or food for the low income earner. But now this dessert has changed when they put other ingredients in it. Originally it has only sugar, sesame and coconut.

The last dessert is called “Thang Taek”
Garry’s kind of misunderstanding it too.
Thang = Bucket while Taek = Broken.
Coz it’s cooked in pan shaped of “small bucket”.
But when that tuktuk driver said “like me”, he was using a Thai slang which ThangTaek in Thai means “broke” or “extremely poor”

You are in Thailand, have to eat a lot Thai food, but many food shop to buy__Chinese food!!! Real Thai food such as: curry, tomyamkung, samtam, yam paduk foo, ets. Last year & this year the top the most delicious in the world is Massaman Curry 🇹🇭, CNN 😋
