This gives you a lot more control than a filter, because it's using brushes which you can personalize to the nth degree, and your hand movements. Useful tutorial. Never used the art history brush before, thanks Marty, that triggers some creative ideas!
Marty, this is an amazing technique! Thank you for sharing. I feel this technique can be taken even further with the use of layers and masks.
This is great - a very neat way to get more realism out of the art history brush - thank you!!
Marty! Your tutorials are amazing! This one especially helped.
Marty, Im amazed with these tutorial. Thank you !
Great technique. THANKS for the well produced video. Exactly what I've been looking for.
OMG FINALLY! THIS IS A GAME CHANGER. Thank you
Another great tutorial from Marty..Love it!
Seriously cool! Inspirational. Thank you!
You’re incredible Marty!
Thanks, awesome technique! I much prefer this to the oil paint filter but it has pros and cons. The Stylize - Oil Paint filter has a little more of an intelligent placement of strokes (the strokes curve around features and lines to some degree) however it works best if you want a tight or detailed image, if you get too abstract with the oil paint filter it starts to look off fast and you can’t get those big beautiful stray strokes you’ve simulated here, so I think blending the two techniques might benefit the result.
fantastic tutorial Marty. Thank you.
Art history brush was a useless thing for me till now. Thanks for the amazing tutorial, Marty.
Marty, you are amazing! I am so thrilled I found you. You are no doubt the best creative artist I have seen on the internet. You are not the easiest but if one can learn your techniques and retain them, you can become an excellent photo artist. This is a fabulous tutorial, Marty. Well done my friend. Well done! Thank you
Thank you so much 😀
Another excellent tutorial, thank you.

Thanks for this! It's not the look I'm going for but it was a fantastic starting point to build off of and fine tune.
This is a great technique, I've got some great results. I had no idea how to use the art history brush until now. Thanks, Marty.
Thank you!
This is outstanding. So much better than the PS Actions, and certainly way better than the Oil Painting filters in PS. Thank you for posting!

okay this took me a while but it totally worked. Im gonna play with the different brushes and settings. thanks for this :)))) five stars
Thanks Marty!
wow i just subscribed love the way you explain in distain
Fantastic sir
If it wasn’t for Marty’s tutorials I most likely wouldn’t have photoshop anymore. Just from the way he uses the shortcut commands constantly and first. Now that’s almost second nature for me. And it’s not just “hey, copy what I do.” He wants you to follow along but takes the time to explain what each option is for, what it does and other similar options to experiment with. Which once again had me learning the tools, how they operate and now when I’m looking for a certain look or effect I know at least which tools or group of tools I should be looking through. Leave it to Marty to trick me into learning…. Harrumph! Not to mention actually enjoying it too. Damn you Marty!
Seriously though, thank you, for not so much your photo and art skills alone but you teaching skills that are right on par with them.
Thank you so much for your glowing review! 🙏👏👍
Such a great channel 😍😍😍😍
Great editing ..💗💗

Dziękujemy.
Thank you so much for your donation to my channel! I really appreciate it. 💙
Hi Marty, thanks so much for this tutorial, pls can you do a tutorial on smudge painting too?.
th-cam.com/video/mgAwFb9kgnw/w-d-xo.html&t=
wow
Wonderful tutorial 🤗 can I ask a question. If I was going to print what I have done following your tutorial would this come out ok with the resolution at 150 ? I keep seeing people saying for print it’s best to be at 300 at least ? What would you recommend?
For print, I always recommend 300 ppi, since the image will be sharper. The filter setting amounts that correspond to distance and size should be doubled. Other filters such as opacity and color remain the same.
Thanks.
Wow this is amazing
Who can get those oil paint brushes
Thank you for this... I have a question, can this also be applied to landscapes?
Yes, absolutely
👍👍👍👍
Thanks!
Thank you so much, Kristy! I really appreciate your support of my channel! 💙
Its by far the best tutorial ever!
How would you market this product? What would you call this product? I am thinking about doing this with my photography, but I can't say it is an oil painting. Beautiful job Marty. Thank you for sharing this
Good question. Frankly, I don't know. It's technically a digitally-manipulated photograph or a "Photoshopped image"
great video!
too bad my brush goes nuts and scatters all over the canvas EXCEPT where I want it too.
maybe I can call it sneeze painting and move on... haha.
👏👏👏👏👏👏.
this is amazing. im wondering whether this will look good on t-shirts. What you reckon?
I should. As with anything else - it depends of the colors and brightness of the image, as well as the quality of the printing.
@@BLTV_Photoshop Ok thanks for the reply, ill give it a shot
Wow Marty. 796 videos! whats are you planning for your 800th?
Not sure yet. 😉
This looks great! Except the scatter on the brushes seems enormous on my images, and doesn't allow me to focus my paint strokes in any particular area. The Scatter option is greyed out in the brush settings menu -- is there anything I can do? Thank you so much for this!!!
Hmmm...go to Image > Mode > RBG color, 8 bits/Channel
Yes, I'm in both of those modes. But do the brushes have scatter built into them to begin with, or are they choosing to dance around on their own?
👍⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐👍
this is really great, but I'm having trouble with the brushes. One thing that isn't much of an issue, but every time I select a brush, it's at 2500 px big. Of course, I can shrink it down, but that's just a nitpicky thing but it may lead to the bigger issue. Whenever I use the brush, the spread on it is too wide. I may have my brush on one object, but it's hitting a point too far away that I don't want it to hit. I tried decreasing the area, but it only "works" when it's at 0 px. Even a 1 px it's way far out, but when it's at 0px it's too accurate. All of this is causing the pictures to not be as detailed as I want them to be.
Is there anything you know that could help me?
In the Brush Settings, reduce the "Spacing" amount.
@@BLTV_Photoshop I've turned off spacing and the problem still exists
Marty, how long should it take to achieve this and is it a service you offer? I would like to create this effect on one of my pictures but I'm not a Ps user.
Since this effect isn't an automated action, it's achieved stroke-by-stroke manually. Contact me at BlueLightningTV@gmail.com
I haven't really used PS either but I was able to do a rough attempt in about an hour. Now I'm down to about 15 minutes per image.
Sometimes when I use art history brush ..make a little blur that I don't want ..it's from brush itself or there's another thing I should change in setting ..also ..if I want to do more details in eyes . what I should do ? I mean there's limit when I can appear eyes .. is there recommend ways to make eyes more realistic?
For details, a smaller brush size is required.
@@BLTV_Photoshop okay thank you 💜
Hello, Marty! How do you install the brushes into photoshop??
Just double-click the brush file to automatically install it. When you open your Brush presets, the new brushes should be at the bottom of the preset list.
I have downloaded the brush pack from the link....but the brush you use in this video isn't in there. It specifically downloads "Free Painter Photoshop Brushes 3"....are there 2 others I am missing? Thanks!
Nope. That's the correct set of brushes. I just checked the link and it downloaded perfectly on my end. When I opened the folder, the brush I used "31" was there.
Any plans to support the Apple M1 Macs? I can't get my RealPaint FX to work on the Apple Studio. Thanks! (I don't want to run Rosetta)
I haven't used a Mac for over 12 years, so I'm not up on Apple news. Sorry.
Where is the link for brushes so may I download and install it?
Below the title of the video is the video's description. Click "Show More" and scroll down.
how to make it more soft
There is no need to save the cropped photo. Simply open the History window and klick the cropped symbol, then the pen works well
Gracias por el tutorial y los pinceles, me parce que necesita mas pulido, no luce como pintural real.Saludos.
Can this be done in Elements 2021?
Sorry, don't know, since I never used Elements.
how do i get a bit more detail in a facewhen doing this
As he said in the video: reduce the brush size.
Can you make another video about how you made girl at window poster please
If you're referring to my digital painting of "Girl at Window", sorry, I don't do tutorials of my personal artworks because of their complexities and the time it takes. Many of them require combining and adjusting separate photos. Tones are converted into paths and then shapes. Brush strokes and textures are created and added.
I'm using the 2020 version but and i can't find dab in the brush stokes
Go to Window > Brushes > click the icon at the upper, right of the Brush panel to open the fly-out list > click "Legacy Brushes".
i try to make this effect but not work the color brush be only white and not colored with the image colors ???? what is the solution of this problem
99% of the time, the solution is simple, however, it could be one of many reasons. Without inspecting your PSD file, it would be difficult to determine its cause.
Can someone please tell me if this can be done on photoshop for ipad? If so, how? Thank you!!
Frankly, I'm not sure since I've never used PS on an iPad. Sorry.
Hi Marty.Could you please provide first texture for me?
The URL has always been in the video's description. It's named "Brush Texture". 👍
@@BLTV_Photoshop Thank you Marty.
I'm missing something. Every time I use the art history brush the image turns to mud and I can't tell what the photo is anymore. What am I doing wrong?
It could be due to one or more reasons. Make sure the source of for art history brush is a snapshot of your photo. Also, the size of your brush must be small enough to accentuate finer details.
I had the same issue. On the top bar, where it says "Style / Area / Tolerance", make sure "Area" is set to a number greater than zero.
For whatever reason, my image will not brush over. Help! You can see in the layer it is uncovering the photo but the photo doesn't change.
99% of the time, it's simple fix - something isn't checked or made active, etc.. Unfortunately, it could be 1 of dozen reasons. One would have to inspect your PSD file to find the error. 🤔 Sorry.
Where are your video descriptions? I am a paying member. Thanks.

don´t can
Don't use a low resolution image btw, youll regret it
Yes. At 1:19 in the video, I say to type in 150 ppi.
@@BLTV_Photoshop yes, that works to an extent, but not in my particular situation.
Great tutorial!
