    I once saw an article saying Eric is a horrible person, but like... It takes one hell of a man to put off his dreams to help take care of his parents. He made mistakes from time to time, but this shows his quality.

      Happened to me too. I was offered a good job abroad in America for when I finished school 10 years ago by a rich relative. But then my dad died suddenly of a heart attack. I just couldn't leave my mum behind to cope. So I stayed and helped look after her, my grandparents and my aunt. I stayed in my hometown and now host the Morning Show at my local radio station.

      Eric is not a horrible person at all. Kitty spoiled him and Red verbally abused him for most of his life. His parents didn’t encourage him to have goals or a career.

    • @Sweet_Venom0027

      @@karleighrock593 Red encouraged, or rather tried to force, Eric into studying hard in school to do well in College and move far away to a different state where he'd find a good job. Kitty was more the one who wanted him nearby so she could be the doting mother.
      I'm not a psychologist but when you have a super domineering parent then in can lead you to make bad choices trying to have the kind of love you feel that you're owed. Out of all the girls Eric could've fallen for, it kinda says something that the one he picked was the controlling, frank speaking, tomboy who wasn't shy about using physical violence. It's almost like Eric was trying to date a young redheaded/blonde female version of Red.
      I could be wrong though.

    Ironically enough, my great grandfather was told by a doctor to drink a beer once a day for his heart condition. Told him he even if he thought he didn't need it, to drink it anyway. My dad still remembers as a kid going to his house and seeing him having a beer in his coffee mug every morning.

    • @SalemElloit
      @SalemElloit 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DIRTY.WORK-Inc well, if you Google the benefits of drinking 1-2 beers a day, you'd see there are health benefits to it. Which include benefits to your heart, better blood sugar control, stronger bones, and reduced dementia risk, which is stated on healthline website, and is a pro science website. If one is moderately drinking, and not binge drinking, there are healthy benefits. If one is binge drinking, there is a higher chance of liver/kidney failure, heart failure, etc. So no. You assumed wrong about my grandfather, as I stated, my dad was a kid when he was prescribed to drink 1 beer a day by his doctor. Which was 1971 or 1972 (give or take). He passed in 1982 at least over half a decade before he passed. Which again, I dont know what he passed away from.

    I always wondered if American parents really kicked their kids out at exactly 18. I grew up in California but we are Mexican and many homes are generational your parents usually don’t want you to go.

    • @JC42023
      @JC42023 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      It varies from family to family.
      Really strict families might do that, but most parents will let their kids stay-at least on and off, like if they're in college-into their early-mid twenties (especially in this modern housing climate)

    • @Xylarxcode
      @Xylarxcode ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't know about America, but here it's becoming more and more common to live with your parents for longer periods of time. I was born in the 80's and moved out of the house when I was 19 (if you count dorm living as moving out. If not, then I was 22 when I officially got my first own place), but that's not the norm anymore. It's considered normal for kids to stay in the parent's home well into their 20's and even into their early thirties sometimes, depending on households and other factors.
      I had a conversation about this a few weeks ago where someone was telling me about their sister, who was still living with their parents, despite the fact that she was like 37. The other person in the conversation didn't seem to think that was weird and agreed that it's a good way to live and save money.
      Me personally, I think 37's a bit too old to still be living at home, but on the other hand, I have experienced how tough it can be to make ends meet in your own place, so I kinda get it at the same time. If your relationship with your parents is strong enough and you have your own space and privacy, it can definitely work out.
      I haven't heard of anyone being forced to move out at 18 for quite some years now. Seems like that sort of thinking is becoming outmoded. I still heard it when I was a kid and although it wasn't expected of me when I turned that age, I did it shortly after anyway, but that was by my own choice.

    • @sabbic
      @sabbic 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I know with the way things are these days people are living with their parents longer and longer but overall, I think it's more a cultural thing. In some cultures it's expected that the kids will stay and eventually take care of their parents or only move out once they get married. In other cultures, such as my own, once you hit 18 it's expected you will move out and start your own life, be it college or just working or whatever.

    I am a little astonished Eric still handed over his paycheck after a statement like that. Jeez, Red. I know Eric maybe didn't turn out the way you were expecting, but you could at least show a little respect to someone willing to put his life on hold to keep the lights on and food on the table for you and your wife. Or, if not respect, then at least a lack of open contempt...

    • @aerostrafe1075
      @aerostrafe1075 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I can kind of partially get why Red said that. No father wants to admit that they're holding their kids back like that. My grandfather took a long time to let me treat him to dinner. If I had to look deeper into it then I think he wanted Eric to react the way you expect him should. Be rude to make your son leave for his own future.
