In '89/'90 some knucklehead would start a beef with you on the train or park because they saw your jacket. Feels strange remembering those times.

Nike has a monopoly on the basketball shoe markets, and jerseys too cause they been making nfl jerseys since 2012 after reebok then they took over the nba jersey making contract after that and now for the last 2 yrs make mlb jerseys too and it seems like the nfl jersey quality went down and they use that recycled polyester bs and made the prices go real high too but fanatics actually manufacture nikes jersey for them but fanatics also makes mitchell and ness jerseys too. Nike doesn't need to be greedy with there prices though when u got the sneaker market locked down with Jordan shoe brand too if anything there prices should be lower not price gouging cause there shit isint even made in america it's made in china or some other Asian country.

Starter populator started to dim by that time. Shit Starter used to make shoes as well if I remember correctly. I never owned a pair. Now you have so many hat companies. The 90’s was around the time production moved overseas for a lot of retail sports jerseys. Despite the change, Starter was able to maintain a high standard of quality. Their El Salvador-made jerseys were still very nice products. It probably helped that at the time the NFL did not consolidate under a single brand, thus no monopoly.

Around 1992 I had the bulls starter parka in middle school. The pullovers were popular but it was the parkas that really meant something. The most hyped were the all black parkas with the hoods and the logo on the chest and big logo and on the back. Even the color matching little cord locks mattered. I collect starter jackets now. Nostalgia is real.
Starter was popping even in NZ in the 90s, and class mate was a fence for the dudes thieving them, so he had tons of clean ones. The Charlotte Hornets jacket was the one to have back then. Living in Australia, we really looked up to US culture in the 90's, I'm always on the lookout for Starter, Sports Specialties, Logo Athletic etc. products. Mainly college and minor league teams, not because of the value, but more the novelty, because all that was available to us was big market teams at the time (Orlando Magic, Chicago Bulls, Dallas Cowboys etc.). Personally, I think, unless Starter scores another major contract they won't be the brand they want to be, the brand they once were. Great vid. keep it up.
The Starter pullover coats/jackets back in the early 90’s was the dopest piece of your outfit. Those and the kicks. Anyone else old enough to remember the Pro Player jackets? They were like the Starter jackets except they had the mascot going up and down the arms of the jacket. Whatever team mascot logo would be a buck of them that went up and down the back of the sleeves. I liked the Pro Player ones better than the Starter jackets for that reason alone. Had both as a kid but I always loved those jackets. As a Ky boy I had a UK Wildcats one of course but I also had a Cowboys Starter jacket, Norte Dame and Miami Pro Player jackets and they were sick with the Cane bird or the Fighting Irishman logo going up the sleeves. I remember getting the Miami Hurricanes Starter Jacket for christmas it was probably one of my coolest presents.
Yeah, when I was in middle school (say '92-'96), Starter was THE brand to rock, more than Adidas or Nike or anything like that. I myself had the Montreal Canadians jacket - my favorite hockey team at the time.
I have often wondered what happened to Starter, which this video explains finally :)

I remember my mom buying me my first Starter jacket on my birthday .... it was the classic Georgetown Hoyas. Man, you couldn't tell me NOTHING back in them days when I had that on LOL

Man this takes me back. I had a lightning San Diego Chargers hat back in middle school. Never could afford a jacket. I remember the holy trinity of sportswear back then was Starter, Logo Athletic, and Apex.
To me, Starter's light started to fade when Walmart started carrying their products. Just didnt seem very premium anymore
Around 1993 to 1994 Starter Pull Overs were the coolest of the cool. Bulls Packers and absolutely the teal Charlotte Hornets were everywhere. Wish I still had mine

Even tho I didn’t grew up in the 90’s brands like starter, sports specialties, pro player, logo athletic to me are still better than todays brands (new era, Mitchell and ness, 47) 90’s kids y’all so lucky 😂
Living in Australia, we really looked up to US culture in the 90's, I'm always on the lookout for Starter, Sports Specialties, Logo Athletic etc. products. Mainly college and minor league teams, not because of the value, but more the novelty, because all that was available to us was big market teams at the time (Orlando Magic, Chicago Bulls, Dallas Cowboys etc.). Personally, I think, unless Starter scores another major contract they won't be the brand they want to be, the brand they once were. Great vid. keep it up.

The Starter pullover coats/jackets back in the early 90’s was the dopest piece of your outfit. Those and the kicks. Anyone else old enough to remember the Pro Player jackets? They were like the Starter jackets except they had the mascot going up and down the arms of the jacket. Whatever team mascot logo would be a buck of them that went up and down the back of the sleeves. I liked the Pro Player ones better than the Starter jackets for that reason alone. Had both as a kid but I always loved those jackets. As a Ky boy I had a UK Wildcats one of course but I also had a Cowboys Starter jacket, Norte Dame and Miami Pro Player jackets and they were sick with the Cane bird or the Fighting Irishman logo going up the sleeves. Man I miss those days. The world was so much better. Also I can’t remember what brand did the big head little body t shirts. Y’all remember them? The NBA players and NFL and MLB players t shirts that had a cartoon like look and had giant heads with little/regular size bodies. Those t shirts were the shit back then!!! Also anyone else remember Big Johnson shirts back in the 90’s?😂😂

I always rocked a Chicago Bulls starter jacket growing up. I still have a Miami Dolphins Starter pullover jacket.
Rocked a black satin Raiders Starter, had a puffy hooded black Bills coat. Also had a Chiefs pullover. Matching hats and caps for all of course.

The early 90s. The peak seemed to be the late 80s 88-89 through early 90s. I was just starting the teen era late 80s so saw that era in person. That Hornets jacket on the front of thumbnail great choice of pics.
I still got my OG Dallas Cowboys Starter jacket. I get it dry cleaned every year and only wear it on special occasions. It still looks new.
P.S. I'm not a Cowboys fan. I had SF 49ers pullover, Charlotte pullover, Raiders jacket, and Bulls pullover. But the Cowboys won 3 out of 4 SB towards the end of starters run.

I had a Magic and a Nuggets Starter jacket. At school dances in the 90s they wouldn't let anyone in with Starter jackets. The Starter sets were also huge. They fell off hard to me when they started selling Starter at Walmart.
