I'm kinda surprised it doesn't come with an extra "should fit most people" gasket for when (or if) you demo it to other people. (maybe you can order one if you want one, idk) Other than that tiny quibble, seems like a great option for people who put form factor and comfort at a premium. Man VR is tech is moving so fast, it must be a conundrum to have to chose only one and stick with it for potentially 4-5 years. And we still got the mysterious "Deckard" waiting in the shadows, potentially destroying all in its awesomeness. Good times. 😄
The reason they don’t have a generic face gasket is because of the IPD. The sweet spot is not very large and you would want the person using it be in the sweet spot. That’s why it is soooo specific.
yeah, I love when I get the opportunity to get someone who has never seen VR to sit in my VR cockpit for a minute or have them try Half Life Alyx. They're blown away every time lol
Yeah becasue the IPD and gasket are custom fit to your face scan another person would likely experience light leakage and no sweet spot. So its not really a sharable headset. To add IPD adjustment they would have had to make the form factor larger defeating its advantage.
Been following your report on the Bigscreen Beyond, but until this report, I hadn’t looked up the price. £1100 on the website. OK, my Valve Index was £999 for the full kit 3yrs ago, but this is almost as much as a Vario Aero. So a big outlay for most. Nice to see they’ve put a headstrap in the box as well now. Thanks for the update. Still a bit dear for me but price may drop when they start shipping serious quantities. Not sure what you mean by the glare, is there any way you can show the effect in a video?
Glare is where white letters on a black background (or similar) bleed into that background. It's like the white part has an aura. It's by far the worst part of VR movie viewing.

@@x32i77 The VR1 is like an Aero or Crystal. In fact it uses the same displays as the Crystal. It's comfort is still unknown, but it is a mini LED aspheric lens headset. It's only real claim to fame is the modularity. The Beyond is something apart from those three headsets and is in a category of its own. So if you are looking at an Aero wait for the future of the Aero announcement on the 20th. If you are looking at a Crystal, wait to see how the VR1 looks since it should have more FOV. But if you have had a large bulky headset and want to improve the overall experience and immersion of VR, look at the Bigscreen Beyond.
whether you need a prescription, that doesn't alter your facial structure nor your IPD. I could use my prescription lenses or contacts as I prefer. So no, you will be able to supply your prescription to Bigscreen and purchase the lenses separately.
my first vr was the Oculus Rift, and I loved it but it was too pixelated and felt like i was looking through swimming goggles, and it was very heavy especially when playing on war thunder. This is almost twice as better in every aspect, all these years on. I will definitely order these!
Yea the Mic sounds great . Plus , … from a vr streaming perspective I think it looks more natural to have less of the face hidden. Ps another great video 👍
Considering this costs £500 less than the Crystal, meaning you can get the BSB, base stations and controllers for the same price, the Crystal screen would need to be dramatically better imo for the BSB not to be better. It looks so much more comfortable, and I'm sure the controllers and tracking would be much better than the Crystal. If I had base stations and controllers I'd be really tempted to order this...
I’d order it in a second if it didn’t require the investment in the base station and controllers. As far as I’m concerned that requirement kills this product.
@@Killswitch1411 I doubt there is a single Crystal user who wouldn't rather the XR2 wasn't taken out of the headset so it could be smaller, lighter and not have to run on batteries. Nobody is going to use the Crystal as a standalone headset. The eye tracking is nice of course.
@@kevinbrook7033That's not the point.. We all wanted that, but guess what it didn't happen. So staying on topic you pay more for more tech...The Beyond is bare bones, panels and lenses and a plastic casing.. Yet it still cost 1000 without controllers and Base stations.
@@Killswitch1411 apart from the eye tracking it's extra tech that nobody wants. If the Crystal had no XR2 Soc, no battery, no controllers and could therefore be lighter, smaller and cost $1000 like the BSB it would be a much better and more desirable headset. How is paying an extra $600 over the BSB for some crappy controllers with mediocre tracking plus an obselete XR2 Gen 1 Soc that cannot possibly power 2880 x 2800 per eye resolution displays in standalone good value? They should have sold it headset only like the BSB and let it just run on base stations and Index controllers. You're paying $600 for useless crap that just makes the headset worse.
I'm not going backwards though. the vr i have had for 5+ years now has been 90hz. and tbh higher would be better, you can still see the individual frames depending on what game you are playing. so whilst this headset is great, it needs to be slightly cheaper, include controllers and inside out tracking, and at least 90hz. then i am very interested. as it is its not for me.
They mentioned that 75hz in refresh rate with micro OLED is a lot faster than 90hz with LCD. That being said, 75hz is when you use the biggest resolution available. Otherwise, you could use the smaller resolution at 90hz. Although it has some compression, according to them, with the upscaling, it will be virtually as good as if you had no compression at all.
I have still the htc vive and love to fly at night/sunset/morning - a new HMD have to have OLED ...thats the reason i didnt went with the Index or other HMD with led
I wish the standalone headsets were this size and just had all the processing and battery in a little puck that you can strap to your belt or clipped onto a haptic vest or whatever. I want as much weight off of my head as possible. I'll happily wear a discman on my hip if I can have a headset this light.
I have the Index and i do not see any glare when i am in a game. I perfectly see the glare in steam vr home\lobby and when i look at some light text\pictures on a dark background. Anyway, do you see any screendoor effect in the Beyond?
What worries me about the custom fit face gasket is, it's meant to fit your face at a given time. Tomorrow, my face may swell/shrink because of any kind of reasons (disease, depression, etc.) and it won't be a perfect fit anymore. If VR headsets actually made face cushions similarly to the gel pads used for hearing protection muffs (peltor for example), you could strap it hard against your face and it still wouldn't feel like it's pressing too hard, because gel pads are that good.
It has the best VR mic on the market, no exaggeration. They have a deluxe audio strap coming out for it at a later date. They also lost the recommended system requirements on their website. Because you can run it at a lower fps than many other headsets, you can get away with some lower system specs. Because it's OLED and low weight low inertia, it can actually feel another than LCD running at higher fps, many have reported this.
Wow! It looks amazing! Well, at least from what you're telling us, anyway. LOL Very glad you were able to be their tester. I'll have to look into this one, literally, as well as figuratively. ;)
Is it possible to have 2 people wear this headset flying same plane locally? Pilot & another person both wearing this headset & can look around cockpit interchangeably?
Something many reviewers forget is how taxing on hardware is the hmd. Not everyone has a top of the line rig. Good video though man I never knew about this hmd.
The cost is wild for just the headset, makes me wonder if I could get it to replace my original HTC Vive with the original base stations and controllers. What about the "Screen Door Effect"?
I really like the small size of the unit...very impressed. However for me theres simply not enough decent VR titles to warrent spending a thousand quid on VR. I would be interesting to see how it performs on a more common and average PC build also.
You don't need a hundred good titles, just at least one or two that you really enjoy. For me, simply the existence of Into the Radius is enough for me to want to upgrade from (plugging my quest into pcvr) to this.
@@vracan yeah I get that but i cant even say there's the Quality. Most titles are just kiddy stuff. When you can play red dead 2, Modern Warfare, Battlfield, the new upcoming GTA 6, etc and it works natively then yeah. Elite dangerous was pretty good in VR though!!.
it's true there aren't that many good PC VR games, but to me the key is using tools like VorpX or Reshade Depth3D filter to convert and play many of the most popular games & MMO's with the biggest budgets, some games I'm playing right now in 3D VR: Elden Ring Baldur's Gate 3 Star Trek Resurgence Scarlet Nexus Marvels Guardians of the Galaxy Journey Eternights

Im thinking too my friend Aero vs Pimax vs Beyond 😀 Jesus hard choise...
@@Adamitar Not a hard one for me. In a couple weeks I'll have a more well informed opinion, but I'm thinking that the Beyond will be what I prefer by a margin.
Don't order either of them . Just be patient and order the VR1 🙂
It will be soo much better that any of those hmds
Thank you very much for that review🎉
Excellent as always my friend.
Take care. See you @20.09.
Thanks for watching mate as always, I will, indeed, see you on the 20th 👀😁
How do the visuals compare to the Pimax crystal?
Hello Steve,
And if after a while we observe we need some prescription lenses, does we need to redo a face scan ?
Best
I have a pre-order and I am getting lens inserts from Bigscreen that are very thin and cost $79.00 USD no need for new face scan.
whether you need a prescription, that doesn't alter your facial structure nor your IPD. I could use my prescription lenses or contacts as I prefer. So no, you will be able to supply your prescription to Bigscreen and purchase the lenses separately.
@@heavygeevr thanks for your answer
@@sparkerinvr526 thanks for your reply
my first vr was the Oculus Rift, and I loved it but it was too pixelated and felt like i was looking through swimming goggles, and it was very heavy especially when playing on war thunder. This is almost twice as better in every aspect, all these years on. I will definitely order these!
Steve, have you tested the audio strap they have available? What about a mic?
Uisng the Mic for this video, as you can hear it sounds amazing. I'll hopefully test the audio strap next month.
Yea the Mic sounds great . Plus , … from a vr streaming perspective I think it looks more natural to have less of the face hidden. Ps another great video 👍
@@charzy11 Thankyou :)
I just received my Bigscreen VR and haven't yet set it up. Are the overlays you have part of DCS?
Is the lower FOV an issue or not noticeable?
Thanks for the video, how do these compare to the high end VARJO ??
To bother about these comparisons . Simply make a preorder reservation for the Somnium vr1 at the end of this month .
Does the distant dot spotting improve in this unit in IL2?
Considering this costs £500 less than the Crystal, meaning you can get the BSB, base stations and controllers for the same price, the Crystal screen would need to be dramatically better imo for the BSB not to be better. It looks so much more comfortable, and I'm sure the controllers and tracking would be much better than the Crystal.
If I had base stations and controllers I'd be really tempted to order this...
I’d order it in a second if it didn’t require the investment in the base station and controllers. As far as I’m concerned that requirement kills this product.
Crystal has more tech inside of it.. SO really the Crystal is cheap in comparison to the Beyond. Crystal has eye tracking and standalone.
Thanks for a gread video! Much appreciate the info!
Glad it was helpful! :)
Wondering if you could knock the glare down by running at , say, 90% brightness ? Cheers !
Just like any headset, yeah, you could
I know that thrill seeker and sadly it's bradly preferred it at a lower brightness for these sorts of reasons.
@@MassDefibrillator Thrill runs his at 150% LOL
@@RidgeXR_2 oh, thought it was the other way around.
Love small form factor but small FOV is holding me back. So sticking to my pimax until FOV gets ALOT bigger
And not require a stupid iPhone to purchase
Isnt it 90hz website says it is
@@ronaldkasteel3459 I thought it was 72 or 80, but I have not been following this lately so it's possible (but unlikely) that's changed.
@@socks2441 ah oké lets hope it will be 90
They mentioned that 75hz in refresh rate with micro OLED is a lot faster than 90hz with LCD. That being said, 75hz is when you use the biggest resolution available. Otherwise, you could use the smaller resolution at 90hz. Although it has some compression, according to them, with the upscaling, it will be virtually as good as if you had no compression at all.
Buying it for the comfort
I have still the htc vive and love to fly at night/sunset/morning - a new HMD have to have OLED ...thats the reason i didnt went with the Index or other HMD with led
Is it possible to use an ND filter to reduce glare ?
Off topic, but I too cannot stop flying the FlyingIron spitfire 😛
should i buy this or aero?
Depends on your criteria. What do you prefer in the Aero over this one? And what do you like about this that you don't find in the Aero?
I wish the standalone headsets were this size and just had all the processing and battery in a little puck that you can strap to your belt or clipped onto a haptic vest or whatever. I want as much weight off of my head as possible. I'll happily wear a discman on my hip if I can have a headset this light.
Coming from a G2 and 8KX, do you think I would notice the glare?
So which one the BG or the $990.00 Areo Vajro?
Great video as usual. Thanks mate!
My pleasure! Thank you for watching :)
What flight simulator is this where you can fly a Spitfire?
Can you set it to 60 Hz to watch entertainment vidz smoothly?
no 60hz mode, only 75hz and 90hz
this is exactly what i was looking for as a simulator guy. Are prescription lenses available
Yes, although you need to buy them from Bigscreen 👍
How is the glare compared to the Pico 4
Pico 4 is much better in terms of glare and God rays
@@VRFlightSimGuy Oh wow. That actually doesn't sound good for the big screen 😔
As someone still using my Index, is it a good thing I haven't been spoiled by a no-glare display?
What headset has no glare?
Damn they seemed convinced they could fix the glare and that is a killer for me. I literally can NOT use my Index because of glare.
Where did you read they were convinced they could fix the glare?
Does it have audio and mic? Does it take a super computer to run?
It has the best VR mic on the market, no exaggeration. They have a deluxe audio strap coming out for it at a later date. They also lost the recommended system requirements on their website. Because you can run it at a lower fps than many other headsets, you can get away with some lower system specs. Because it's OLED and low weight low inertia, it can actually feel another than LCD running at higher fps, many have reported this.
@@MassDefibrillator Thank you the reply. I used Steve's link and ordered BSB with audio strap. Looking forward to late March delivery.
So this one is the upgrade path coming from the Hp Reverb G2 sunning on an AMD gpu this will support also?
It works with both AMD and Nvidia.
No. Not possible with games or your standard gaming computer.
awesome review
Thank you 😊
would the beyond be a significant upgrad over the G2?
Yes definitely
@@VRFlightSimGuy ty for that info
i went phoneVR>DK1>OGRift>O+>G2
and i really miss those blacks from the Samsung Odyssey
For me, simply the existence of Into the Radius is enough for me to want to upgrade from (plugging my quest into pcvr) to this.
quality over quantity my freind
@@vracan yeah I get that but i cant even say there's the Quality.
Most titles are just kiddy stuff.
When you can play red dead 2, Modern Warfare, Battlfield, the new upcoming GTA 6, etc and it works natively then yeah.
Elite dangerous was pretty good in VR though!!.
it's true there aren't that many good PC VR games, but to me the key is using tools like VorpX or Reshade Depth3D filter to convert and play many of the most popular games & MMO's with the biggest budgets, some games I'm playing right now in 3D VR:
Elden Ring
Baldur's Gate 3
Star Trek Resurgence
Scarlet Nexus
Marvels Guardians of the Galaxy
Journey
Eternights
Does it mist up in the clamminess?
There is zero fogging.
Now that the Aero is also under $1000, I gotta wonder which is the one to buy?
That is a GOOD question
How is gauge clarity?!
Maybe I would consider after developing cataracts dealt with but 65 inch TV will do for now eh 😊
Please comment specifically in relation to brightness, contrast and colour when compared with the G2
they will make it better in time
Do they still require you to take a picture of your face with a iPhone and send it to the company before they send you the product?
That's a deal breaker
I currently have 3 headsets but this one looks interesting.
Please test it with MSFS and report back! And, how is it to temporarily lift up to use a keyboard or pad of paper? Can it comfortably rest on your forehead like a pair of ski goggles?
Can certainly do this easily, but you might wind up getting schmutz on the lenses, depending on your hair and the geometry of your facial cushion.
