- I spend a week in Norway to photograph Black Grouse and Capercaillie. Inbetween time there is a fantastic bird feeder running that was full of birds, such as Bullfinch, Hawfinch, Greenfinch, Brambling, Yellowhammers and Siskin. The Black grouse had unfortunately already finished displaying at their lek, but the bird feeder partially made up for this.
The Black grouse and Capercaillie tour can be booked through

The time of lekking waries wildly depending on where in Norway you are.
In some parts of Norway, the thaw is very late. I've spent a month in Varanger and Pasvik and it was late even for the place. Where I live, it was late and some were lekking on the road.
When the wind comes from the wrong direction, birds arrive haphazardly.
When I arrived, there were Willow Ptarmigan and hares along the road. I lost track of how many. As time passed, there were fewer. Smaller birds arrived much later.
The Ruffs were on time at the lekking site used by the BBC. And I presume; so were the Finns which tend to monopolise the place (Go to Finland to film Ruffs in Norway).
Tip: check the road authority web cams for where the snow as melted.
Fantastic Mike 👏🏻🙏🏻
Many thanks!
You do good job🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Super like all of your photos 👍
Thanks for liking

A good selection of birds Mike. I particularly enjoyed the Hawfinch and Brambling 👍
Many thanks
Stunning work dude. I thoroughly look forward to your films. Keep em coming! We had some birders from the UK visit here in Cleveland Ohio a couple weeks ago. It was a treat to talk birds, show them our warblers and learn about birders in the uk. 🇬🇧
Thank you.
It rained all day today so I set up on the back porch and did over 400 bird pictures there. It's much easier have the birds come to me now. I have a new Z8 and I'm enjoying it very much but I have not tried the pro-capture feature yet. That might be my next experiment. Mike, I really enjoyed your video today. Thank you.
Once used you will be addicted!
Very interesting channel! Thank you

Brilliant to watch Mike… looking forward to seeing the Capers 👌 best wishes Paul
Thanks
I have been following you and your TH-cam channel for a long time. Nice to see that you have taken the trip here to Norway as well. Your photos are, as always, wonderful. You have to think about taking a trip for sea eagle safari on the northwest coast.
Thanks. I have been with Ole Martin Dahle. But many years ago
such a variety of birds we would love to see in the UK.
They are here, but in lower numbers.
Great video clip Mike. So many species at one time 😊. Wish I could get this in UK so I can shoot video on my new G9 m2 - excellent camera for video and good value for money. There are some interesting settings on this camera that are not present on my OM-1s. Mainly using OM-1 now for photos and the G9 m2 for video. Keep on posting 👌👍😊
I really enjoyed this video, and also the photo tips that come along with it. Your work is exceptional
Thanks.
Super video Mike, I hope you both are keeping well, Del

Outstanding work. Love those BIF shots and was wondering what f-stop you like to use to have both birds in focus?

Thanks
always inspiring watching your videos Mike!
Glad you like them!
Excellent video Mike. The ProCap pictures are brilliant. When is Frederic going to get an OM1mkII so he can use ProCap ?
He is saving for the Sony A1 mk2, which will not even require a photographer to be present!
@@MikeLaneFRPS Then I will be able to accuse him of cheating ! 😂
great video Mike
Thanks.
Very beautiful photos and video, Mike.
Glad you enjoyed it
Very beautiful photo
@@MikeLaneFRPS Was this recently? I only ask because of the snow?
In May 2024
Awesome work Mike.
Thanks 👍
Great video and pictures Mike only you can miss what you went for and make a more interesting video anyway 👍📷
Thanks 👍
Lovely video but the colours of the still images are very muted viewing on my fairly vivid phone screen. What's happening here?
True - the still images are very desaturated, while video is fine e.g. 2:47
Brilliant trip and capture as always. Thank you for sharing Mike.
May I ask what is that large camera plate you are using in the hide on the bench?
There was more than one, but they all did the same. The only one I can find on the web is this www.mdjfotografieshop.nl/c-6508323/mdj-ground-pod-pan-voor-bijvoorbeeld-op-het-strand/
Some awesome shots Mike. I was interested in your comment re number of birds in the UK - Last year on my feeders for example I could easily get up to 20 gold finches, this year lucky to get 5. Bullfinches and nut hatches came last year this year so far none. There is a definite change.
Its a huge decline and worrying
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
When did you go please Mick sorry if you said I may have missed it thanks
5th May for 8 days
What kind of plate do you use to support your lens?
Generically they are known as groundpods. I am not sure of the make of that one, but Google "groundpods camera support" and you will find other makes.
I can't help noticing Mike, your still images look severely under saturated compared to your video footage.
But very nice anyway 👍
Lots of species I have only read about as a teenager growing up in Lancashire. I used to collect birds eggs when I was younger and one of my prized possessions was that of a Redstart. It wasn't until years later that I learned of the distance these birds travelled to breed in the UK. I gave my egg collection to a friend before I emigrated to Australia.
Common practice in those days.
Relaxing video. I am a hobby clouds, flowers, and Temple photographer.
