I've never used a press. Just getting started with using tofu. I'm an electrical/mechanical design engineer (for 36 years). The design of the retainer arms that hold the press in place make me nervous. If this is not made of a polycarbonate (or similar material) plastic, I would also worry about the longevity of it. That being said, the diagonal attachment of them makes for a better stress support for the opposite corners and the corresponding questionably supported corners. I'm considering getting one just to test the hell out of it. The other aspects of the design are very interesting, especially the spring that allows to essentially set it and forget it, as far as the normal need to add pressure by adjusting nuts periodically. Drainage holes would make it a true "set it and forget it" machine. Although, you'd need to keep the holes small to minimize the chances of getting extruded string tofu. All that aside, your review was outstanding, and a good learning experience for me. You speak really well and your progression through the main points was consistent, as well as extremely easy to follow. An absolute pleasure to watch your work. Thanks for taking the time to put this together and share it with the community. This is what TH-cam should be used for most.
Tofu Express is the best tofu press by far. I've tried them all and this is the easiest and gets out the most water without ruining the block. A bit expensive but worth it!
Great job on the video!! I love the way you covered everything in detail. Wonderful flow and organization. Your presentation was right on point. What would happen if you waited an hour before discarding the released water? In the end would you still end up expelling the same amount of water overall?
Hi Rose. I advice the you get rid off the water to improves the flavor and texture of block, and also will prevent your final dish from getting diluted by the excess water. If you want to get the best flavor possible in your tofu dishes (nonwatery sauces) a good tofu press might be something worth considering. ;)
I freeze it, squeeze it a bit, wrap it in a cotton cloth and use gallon water bottles. I usually press more than one block at a time for my meal prepping for the week or two weeks. That consistently does a good job. And takes care of more than one block at a time
Couldn't you turn it upside down in the sink to let the water drain? If there are holes, seems like the tofu would squish out the holes. I think I will try this press.
I have not bought a tofu press, but it's interesting to see your video! When I use tofu, I put it on a plate, then I wrap it in paper towels. I then put another plate on top with a weight, like a can of soup, for 30 minutes or so. This works well for me, and then I do not have another gadget in the kitchen taking up space. My kitchen is small. But this seems like a great tool if you have the room! Thanks for the video, and have a good weekend. :-)
all day i eat like a shark Yes, I've tried boiling tofu. I didn't like the texture as much after the boiling process. To me, it was so simple pressing it using the plates...I've just kept doing the same thing! LOL Have a good week ahead. :-)
Thank you for your informative videos! I wonder if you have any recommendations for tofu presses specifically for making your own tofu. I assume this can be used for molding/pressing homemade tofu, but maybe there are better options for that purpose.
Hello Faith. I also made a review on another tofu press, Raw Rutes Tofu ninja you can view here th-cam.com/video/VBaHB5Hg0Yc/w-d-xo.html and my Yamako Japanese tofu set that I use to make my own tofu. You can watch the latter here th-cam.com/video/2mIru6Zxxoo/w-d-xo.html. I hope this helps!

thank you for your kind feedback. :) were you able to get your tofu xpress?
I'm an engineer too and I approve this review!! :-) Great video.

Thank you Eric, agree with you.

I’m definitely getting one. Thanks
Good choice! Enjoy! :)
Thanks for the video! Is it possible do you think to press it upside down if you can't stand there to dump it out occasionally?
I think so. Have you tried it yet? Please share your experience with us! :)

hello Judy, I think you can do that. Just try it there is nothing wrong in trying. :)

why do all the videos have the captions covering the demonstration?!
