Sucks it didn't catch on. The sequel wasn't as good as this game either. I loved the way you could pick which part of the body you attacked with. The combo system was way ahead of its time too. If you were smart enough you could overlap commands to create custom combos.
David White the sequel failed in many ways even though it did try to bring back certain elements from the first game. Take one simple example, the attacks. The second one had names and inputs that didn't go well with what was being shown on screen where as in the original many things actually made sense. Bull Horns involved two arms reaching out, Slash Kick had inputs that mimicked a jump and downwards kick, etc. but the sequel failed in that. It made me not enjoy the combat. So many other disappointing things: lack of serus, bad voice acting, boring world, enemy variety and appearance was lacking (they had no charm and didn't seem to fit in the world so much as they were just thrown in for the heck of it to me), armor didn't change character's appearance, awful stage design, etc
it was the aethetic of the first that wasn't reached in the sequel. the level of intensity. the quality and style of the sounds, and music. you're on edge the whole time, truly involved in the plot, the game was a real thriller. idk why it wasn't more mainstream

The game was very much a "tragedy" (in story)--and one of the only video games that almost made me cry at parts, many years ago. It's very underrated and I'd put it in my top 3 most favorite video game releases of all time, hands down.
What I love about Legend of Legaia is their combat system doesn't throw their early game techniques under the bus. A low level tech can be combined to make a strong combo or sprinkle it at the beginning or the end to get a damage boost. They may not be the big damage makers late game but they are still useful.

I couldn't read English much back then, and I randomly found a way to beat it with Warrior Icon (counterattack with certain chances) and won with luck (frequently triggered Counter) equipped on Gala (party members at level 35 - 40). After I won, I screamed like mad, lmao. I also learned to love English thanks to this game. Great memory

Something about hiding a secret boss behind a "random encounter" scared the junk out of me as a kid. Nothing makes your heart go faster than hearing the regular battle music you expected suddenly shift to a boss theme. (Disclaimer: I know it's not "random" because you have to run on a certain tile, but you get the point)
I remember finding this boss by chance. I already had beaten the game, and I was just bored visiting old locations trying to find unopened chests. Then this boss popped. I lost my first 2 fights against him.
I found this boss by chance as a kid, was lost, hadnt beaten the game yet and got destroyed. took me FOREVER to bring it down. theres another hidden random super op boss like this in final fantasy ix, i think towards the end of disc 1 or the start of disc 2

I guess is that you can use luminous jewel and multiple Shield Elixirs then Lapis will do poor damage to you and then give someone lots of Power Elixirs to raise their attack for an easy fight since those can stack and they last for the entire battle or the person faints.

Level + Wonder elixir. Every elixir you use increases ALL stats. But battling lapis at low level is a real pain. And some have used the escape + jedo trick to make this battle easier.
This boss has some vicious attack, 8 hits!? And he does'nt play fair. Badly the battle begins: "Ambush" + "Lapis Wave" (whole party mp=0). Why don't you play like a man, Lapis? "Unpredictable Behaviour". means your hero is uncontrollable in Berserk status (High Attack). Doing random arts to enemies, yet sometimes he/she only run to enemy and doing nothing.
@@aibrahim6071 You can get the Point Card from upstairs in the shop in Rim Elm immediately after you leave Rim Elm. After you get it, each time you spend money you get points on the card. Spend enough money and you can get enough points to kill pretty much anything using the point card. When you enter battle you will be able to use the Point Card from your Items menu.
But it can only deal 9999 damage per turn. Lapis have at least 40k HP. Unless you are well-prepared for his barrage, you won't be able to use all of its points
Awesome fight!! How do you do for Lapis combos doent het you that much?? He makes you like 300 per hit and he makes me like 600 to 700 damsge per hit. How you reduced the damage??
@@lisi03822 Spirit beforehand, all the Delilas' use their special every 3rd attack, but if you just wanna tank the damage you get a rainbow jewel in the cave system beforehand which halves all elemental damage to you.
@@elitefdc2171 Speed Chain remedy this. Gala is a powerhouse once all three characters have the same amount of Art blocks, since he has better stats than both Vahn and Noa. He is pretty weak on the early game, but a monster in the endgame, both as a physical fighter and spellcaster; pretty much the polar opposite of Noa.

The real challenge of this game is maxing all the stats via the diff waters that gives perma stat and maxing the level of the serus.. :D

You need to learn how to block better
Blocks are random. Using spirit increases the block rate but then that's a turn you aren't doing anything else.
