Its very clear in the interview that Stella Araneta didnt like pretty much and underestimate the Filipino designer.
It wasn't until Pia Wurtzbach won Miss Universe Philippines 2015 and the aggressive and fiery demands from the netizens that Stella Araneta finally gave in and gave a Filipino designer a chance to create the gown and national costume when Albert Andrada came on board and made things simple for Pia.

Madame got her facts mixed up. Miriam Quiambao didn't win the Best National Costume. She won the country's first & only Clairol Herbal Essences Style Award
Barazza's only creation that won was the Filipiniana worn by Zorayda Ruth Andam in 2001. It came in at 2nd place right after the winning national dress of Miss Korea

This issue has nothing do with MJ at all and my comment isn't in any way, shape, or form meant to disparage her.
It makes sense that no Filipino designer will ever meet Mrs. Araneta's expectation and for her to simply dismiss it as "not good enough" when it comes to designing the National Costume over the years ... her taste is as TACKY as her choice of words. I hope the attention steers her to change her outlook at next year's pageant... that will turn this whole issue into something positive.

Well, all MJ could do is accept what Madam Araneta provided her. Can she refuse it, yes she can but Madam can't take no for an answer. At least she carried that bridal gown with elegance and still made it to the top ten. Madam Araneta was blindsided by this Colombian designer who also designed Miss Colombia's evening gown. Everybody knows MJ is a good bet to win the Miss U bu there is Miss Colombian who is also a contender but with a bad attitude. But given she has a stunning evening gown, she might be able to pull it off. And she did. If shr had worn MJs evening gown, she wouldn't even be in the top ten. That's the farthest she would have gone with her bad attitude. That's how important evening gown competition is. Madam Araneta could have been blindsided but she is Colombian too. So do the equation

It’s too late but when I checked Google, in 1999 Miss Universe pageant.. the country who won BEST IN NATIONAL COSTUME is not Miriam Quiambao (Philippines) but Miss Trinidad and Tobago during Miss Universe 1999. Correct me if I’m wrong? 😂

how does the filipina candidate shows the ethnic origin of the filipina dress if the designer is not a filipino as in "pure pilipino" is the other country knows about the original ethnic pilipino dress? why the Bb. Pilipinas Organization did not proud for giving a chance to make a filipino designer, Binibining Pilipinas concept supposed to be needed to come up from the candidate, dress, presentation etc. as pure filipino culture how can we call Binibining PILIPINAS if the other forms like a dress made from other country? How? ano yun para sosyal? d sila marunong tumingin ng babagay sa magsusuot kayo kaya ang magsuot ng damit n magmumukha kayong plorera.
People should not blame Mrs. Araneta. This woman might be Colombian but we cannot deny the many accomplishments that she did for the Philippine Beauty Pageant Scene. Let's just move on and thank her for her generous support on our Philippine Queens in their International Pageants.

I just researched this kanina 😂😂. But the only candidates that ever won that award are Charlene Gonzales and Gazini Ganados.

She nust invite Rene Salud again. He designed some of the most fabulous evening gowns in thr Miss Universe pageant, inluding Chat Silayan's evening gown in the Miss Universe 1980 where she placed 3rd runner-up. She was second to Miss USA sa evening gown competition but her gown was more fabulous, chic, and elegant. It was vogue couture and Ms Silayan wore it elegantly. The best ever gown worn in any Miss U finals, in my opinion. Maybe tied with Miriam Quiambao's in Niss U 1999 finals but that was a Halston vintage gown given to her by Madam Araneta's brother, that gown apparently came from Alfredo Barraza, a designer from Colombia And I think after that he was asked to design for all the Bb Pilipinas Universe. He was good but I think he made a better gown for Miss Colombia 2015. MJ's evening gown looked like something you can pick In a Vera Wang bridal sale. Of course Miss Colombia won. But Rene Salud is a better designer by far.

Mj scores very good in the swimsuit. Because Araneta has nothing to say about what to wear in the swisuit competetion. But in the Long Gown. She is wearing a gown not suited for her Height and this is definitely old style compared to the Gown of the Miss Columbia. And bothe Gown were done by the same Designer!!!! Very strange!!! Stella Araneta Must go !!! this position should be fill out by a Filipina who are really interested for the Philippines to win !!!

Madam Araneta is a beauty queen herself. She breathe and wake up each morning thinking about Binibining Pilipinas. Di lang Miss Universe iniintindi niya kasi me Miss International pa siya, Supranational, Tourism International at kung ano ano pa. Walang pwedeng mag question sa kakayahan niya sa pamamalakad ng beauty contests although it had lows. Mula nang bawiin sa kanya yung lisensiya ng Miss World at binigay kay Cory Quirino, mas nag improve ang Bb. Bb.Pilipinas is a business. Madam Araneta owns it and her position is soemthing she cannot resign from. Bakit naman siya gagawa ng bagay na ikatatalo ng kandidata niya eh siya rin naman talo? Konting isip naman,

This is a challenge for Filipino designers, and don't take it to heart the comments of Araneta as perhaps she speaks the truth . MJ's national costume was beautifully. I liked it. Look ar Ara Areda's of last year, goodness, it was "badoy" , common. Can't blame Araneta for resorting to Colombian designer.
Ara Arida's National Costume last year was made by the same designer. Barazza has been designing our candidates' gowns and NC since Miriam Quiambao's time . :)
Try to compare miss Philippine gown to Colombian gown, the Colombian gown is more glamorous than Philippines.
