I've only ever run trail ultras. With miles and miles of trails here in NorCal, road ultras are nonexistent. There are 32 weeks between now and Boston, and I'm looking for something to do inbetween. On Veteran's Day weekend, I will run a fasted 5x5: five marathons in five days while fasting. That's where the M2C R1 comes in. Having put miles on the R1, would you recommend it for all five days of this challenge (131 miles), or would you rotate it with another shoe (Superblast perhaps) to allow the R1 midsole to relax before the next run? Thanks in advance for your feedback.
Great questions: first congrats on the 5x5 that sounds like a fun challenge. I hear ya on the trail ultras. I also have not done a road ultra. I think the R1 could be effective. I take it you have the R1 or I’d say the first thing to do is break it in. That and allow your feet to adjust to it as it’s unlike any shoe I know. I like that you can change the laces. It’s not a particularly fast shoe but it should be good for parts of the 5x5. In general, I like that you’re considering another shoe. This hopefully can keep soreness and whatnot at bay. The SUPERBLAST is a good thought. I also think about the Topo Atmos, GlideRide, Altra via Olympus. For inclusion sake, the Skyward X. Whatever you decide, I know you’ll include that in your build up. Another thing I thought of is sock choice. I don’t know what the weather will be but I’d think about that too (factors being friction, heat, moisture, time and skin condition as well as material and thickness of the socks)…great questions. I love this topic. What do you think?
@@RunningNPAdventures Most of my runs leading up to the challenge will be back-to-back long runs, with one at Z2 and the other at MP, just to stay crisp for Boston. The 5x5 (131 miles) will be run between Z2 and Z3. So, I think the R1 will be fine,, thanks to your review and feedback. The SB is a great long run shoe that I already have, and I need to rack up the miles on it anyway so that I can retire it and pick up the SB2. Thanks for listing the other shoes, and I would consider one of them if I didn't already have the SB. The other shoe I am considering is the R1R, but the courses I am running are tarmac. If there were gravel paths or any surfaces other than tarmac, then I would certainly consider it. Thanks again for your feedback. Very helpful.
@@Wings_nut absolutely! The r1r I hear has a different outsole and is a tad bit heavier. Otherwise, the zerosag and really prominent arch support is great 👍 great use of the sb. Can’t wait to hear how it goes. Sounds fun! You are most welcome good sir
