This is turning into a TV show which I HAVE to watch! And I mean that in a good way; it's great with the three of you! Keep up the fantastic work and never change your into music - it always get me humming :)
A decade later (2022)… Zee has “cooled on” this one (see “Top Ten games we have cooled on”). To be fair, this was a game people were excited about in 2012. I still enjoy it.
No Tom, You're not the only one that likes Galaxy Trucker, it's still a favorite in our group. Also, nice review! Though I don't feel that this game, considering the components, is worth the price.
More of this... I know it has to be difficult but Miami Dice is so cool. Everytime it's up I'm like WHOAA... Colin Farell is in action.. no, wait.. it is even better... it's VASSEL and HEALEY.
I think that this is MUCH lighter than Race for the Galaxy, but the comparisons with 7 Wonders are fair. I like this game lots - it's a much easier teach than Wonders, but keeps the same feel. The only other downside it the 4 player maximum (bring on that expansion!). X
it's not in print in the US (and i believe out of print everywhere else), however, a US publisher IS bringing it to the US (Stronghold Games I believe), and it'll be coming out this August in the US...finally
Drafting is really like in 7 wonders, but then the rest of the game reminded me Race for the galaxy. And so it has something form the two games i like (7 wonders maybe less, as it gets too repetitive and boring quickly), really interested in this one.
This is as much like 7 Wonders as it is to Magic the Gathering. You can draft...that's it and where the similarities end. Not a fair assessment or comparison to draw. To drive the point home, Martian Dice is just like King of Tokyo because of the dice rolling.
Artipia is reprinting this in September. They also have a new kickstarter based in the same world called New Dawn. Kind of laughable though that you guys are dogging on Vlaada Chvatil as he's one of the greatest designers the industry has ever seen.
Among the Stars was the first game I played at London on Board. I thought I would enjoy the game because (on paper) I like the mechanics. However, I too found the game an underwhelming experience. At its core, it is a very light engine building game and once the light drafting is finished, you completely ignore the other players because how you choose to build your station has zero effect on the other players. I like the artwork and theme, but dislike the almost complete absence of interaction.
@@thedicetower Then we have different view of what is interaction. Drafting is very passive imho and in this game it would include that I always have a look what cards are in other bases. Which leads to AP. Just not my type of game I enjoy. And if you draft the card I need you probably give up your play and end up with stuff you don't need.
I loved 7 wonders and was very underwhelmed by this game. Less interesting interaction. Seemed much less deep than 7 wonders. I enjoyed it, but not a lot and the 3 others I played it with HATED it.
I just don't understand why everyone attributes drafting cards to 7 Wonders. It just took the drafting part of a Magic the Gathering draft and replaced the interesting cards in MtG that actually DO cool things with cards that give you points. How is that innovative?
Because you don't have to pay $10+ to play one game. But in all seriousness, they are different. Drafting in MtG is just a way of randomizing your card base. Drafting in 7 Wonders is actually part of the game. Rather than building a deck, you are picking the best cards to play down. I know they added drafting mechanics in conspiracy, but it's different. They are different games.
You three are the Top Gear of Board Games. The same chemistry between people and humor. More of this please!
The 3 of you have a great dynamic. I always enjoy episodes with Zee!
My fave videos are all 3 of you together--what a great combo you have here. Well done--and DO MORE!!!
My first like for Miami Dice, zee adds so much.
Awesome panel and that intro... I just love Miami Dice.

Wow, the Top Gear of Board Games. I could not have described it better myself! Well done heka78. Anyway, keep up the great work Tom, Sam, & Zee!
Zee's description makes Among The Stars sound like Carcassonne meets 7 Wonders/Fairy Tale.
What was the name of the song played during the component drop? I really like it and my Soundhound app can't place it.
what about city tycoon in comparison? there's spatial element too, there are four rounds and six cards. isn't it the same in space?
If I don't have either 7 wonders or among the stars and are only going to get one which one should I get?
How simple it is to make quick comparisons!
I like Galaxy Trucker, Tom!

Interesting as it seems, do games keep having to go with odd shaped cards?!
Anyone know when this is going to reprint or go to any US retailers?
This looks amazing, but the lack of direct interaction is putting me off a bit. Hopefully the expansion will fix this.
I've never played 7 Wonders but Race for the Galaxy is currently my favorite game. Is Among the Stars at all similar?
Oh wow, you really should use this new format of three every time from now on
More of this... I know it has to be difficult but Miami Dice is so cool. Everytime it's up I'm like WHOAA... Colin Farell is in action.. no, wait.. it is even better... it's VASSEL and HEALEY.
Its probably sad but I thought the guy that Vassel worked with on Miami Dice was the same person... :P either or was another great video.
Tom, please have Zee review the new version of Pandemic with you!
i love to see no dislikes on board game videos! keep it up!!!
there are 2 episodes 107
Among the stars, alien artifacts, or Fallout? Which would you recommend over the other?
maybe you guys should do a recorded play session like tabletop lol!

I can't find this game anywhere =/
Its because its not carried in many stores. You can find it directly from their website.

I have no idea how to get this game :(

I enjoy draft, this might be up my alley
Im going to add my 2 pennies and said I like the Three of you together as well. I like it a lot.
I had to rewatch this after watching another show referencing it just because I didnt remember. :)
Z reminds me of Duff from Ace of Cakes... :)
MOOOOORE ZEE PLIZ
Gardens instead of gun turrets... Lmao omg that was hilarious. So buying this game.
With the tile placement/building and no player combat, it sounds like it could’ve been... Space Agricola: the Drafting Game. $Buy$
Ambassadors review?

Zee is only a special guest? He needs to be a regular on Miami Dice.
galaxy trucker is amazing
makes me wanna play 7 wonders...
So it's Infinite Cities + 7 Wonders.
"Three aliens thumbs up" from Zee = autobuy.

Isnt it more complex than 7 wonders? 7 wonders is easily teachable to someone only played monopoly. What about this?
45 bucks for an empty box? Was interested, not anymore.
This is a multiplayer solitaire, almost zero interaction. And the game plays you.
I might argue that drafting is certainly interaction. Play with me, and see how you feel when I draft the card you want/need!
