Boeing never developed a B-757 true replacement She was arguably the best narrow-body aircraft ever made by Boeing I believe this shows how Boeing lost its way long time ago
It’s like how Boeing made the 3 best widebodies of all time - the 747,767, and 777. Yet they have failed to replace any of them . They can’t even finish the new 777
the 787 is also cool. I hope they get the new 777x out by mid 2026. It is way better than the A35K. AND it was a lack of interest in 757. The 737 MAX 10 is not a good replacement. But the 320 is NEVER a good replacement.
An aspect that should be added here is "family". Boeing had a kind of a "spark of innovation" when they co-engineerd the flight desks of the 757 and 767, which was later valued sadly by nobody else than - the 9/11 terrorists! But Airbus then came up with the full A320 family, of which the longest version could (then nearly, later fully) match the capacity of the 757-200, while pilot pools and maintenance crews could also serve all smaller 'busses in the same operating systems. One example: When AMERICAN AIRLINES took over US AIRWAYS in 2013, the latter had already 243 Airbus Narrowbodies in their fleet, including a whopping 90 A321s, with 31 more on order. They also had 24 units of the 757-200, but that was a small legacy fleet of an already discontinued type that had first been sidelined by the customers and then abandoned by its manufacturer.
Flew on Delta’s 757-200 SAN-DTW, JFK-SAN, ORD-ATL, and on the 757-300 ATL-SAN, and scheduled on a 757-300 once again SAN-ATL-SAN in May. Delightful aircraft with awesome engine sound!
The 757 is one of my all time favorite aircraft and Atlanta is my home, so I fly on Delta 757s lot. Delta's Refurbished ones are amazing, just like a brand new airplane inside and out with seatback video and charging ports as well. Thank goodness their replacements are Delta's A321's because I like those even more.

@thetruthbehindplanes A321 has a similar capacity and is more efficient compared to the 757-200. Also, if they have ordered the MAX-10, you wouldn't be saying that
@giestron336 he's just saying how beloved the 757 is as a workhorse, nobody is saying it cannot be replaced at all, I've been on both jet2s 757 and 321neos and it's a comfier ride on the neo but the 757 has an unmatched reputation that cannot be replaced

Inevitably their fleet of this type is going to shrink: it is reaching the age where retirement makes sense. But looking at the site of their fleet it will be a while before they are all gone.
Who knows why these 2 have been singled out, but I wonder if they suffered some "semi significant" damage in their past like a tail strike or fuel or catering truck encounter, and the repairs made then are showing wear.
Weren't Delta literally saying they would be updating the interior of the 757 to modern standards? Meh, the planes will be picked up by a Freight company and utilised to their end...
