I love your life lessons. My wife teaches Communication and her bestie is an English Professor, both at a prestigious university for Mining and Engineering. So many of the things you say resonate with me, but I usually end up sharing with them as well. Thank you for sharing your wisdom, experience, stories, and most of all, your grace.
As I often say "Everybody and everything has its pros and cons." I was at Talisker distillery yesterday. I really enjoyed the tour but not the pot holes on the road to the distillery as I got a flat tire when I hit one. THANKFULLY I have full coverage and the guy who changed my tire was faster than an Indianapolis 500 pit crew. Slainte!
As an abuse survivor I really appreciate the "Healthy Boundaries" and Not Abuse disclaimer with this since that absolutely is a real problem. That said, the reality and normalcy of a situation is a barrier to getting back to love. I really appreciate these videos! Cheers!
Great piece, Daniel. Erik from the Whiskey Crusaders. You also solved a 35 year old music mystery for me with your commentary on the meaning of the Welsh phrase “hiraeth” in this review! One of my favorite songs from about 1990 was “The Rock” by The Alarm from, go figure, Wales. I could never figure out the final refrain chorus, but now know it was “hiraeth hiraeth hiraeth”. Now it all makes sense in the song and I shall go pour a dram of Talisker and toast your great work!
As soon as I see you have a new video it comes to the top of my priorities. Like mental health support. I feel my BP drop, they make me smile and relax. And I love seeing someone so passionate about something like you are with whiskey. Keep it up. We were in Austin a few years ago and a visit for me was mandatory.
Great advice. I've heard that we judge ourselves based on our intent and others based on their actions. Seems a gap worthy of addressing. Thanks for another thoughtful episode.
Welcome all Whiskey Vaulters to Story Time with Daniel! I haven't tried any of Talisker's special releases, but I have occasionally seen them locally. I might have to give one a try the next time I see it.
Wow!!!! Dude this is exactly the message I needed to hear today❤ Not going to get into specifics but, I could definitely use a little grace and I could definitely give a little more grace lately. Thank you .
I believe it is healthy and normal to be searching for that missing thing which as humans allows us to be part of something bigger than ourselves. It may be a religious, career, familial, political, philanthropic or whatever door opens for us to give and to be part of an adventure or meaningful endeavor. The trick is when someone or something fails you to have the courage and ability to reinvent yourself while guarding yourself against being knocked down again. Thank you for having the courage to share your thoughts
Fantastic - you should do a TED talk. A longing for a thing that never was. Sounds very similar to "of all the words of tongue or pen, the saddest are these: it might have been." We spend way too much time wishing our lives away and not enjoying what we have in the present. Good stuff in all of these, but this was really good and hit a mark with me. Thanks!
Oh, gods, yes! I picked up a bottle of the Special Release last week as a treat for myself. It's amazing! Everything you love about Talisker with the volume turned way up! I've got about half a bottle left, and it's going right next to my remaining bottle of their "House Greyjoy" Special Reserve. But you said it was 11 years old? How do you know that? There's no age statement on the packaging.
Man, I love your Content. More Mature and definitely more educational than on Whisky Tribe. You was the heart of WT (Their content is not even half as good without you). My friends and I are following you on TH-cam for the past 5-6 years, please never stop!
Hiraeth is one of my favorite Cymric words. Have you tried Penderyn's Hiraeth? I think that their story behind the bottle made it better for me. I love the narrative of Hiraeth in this Whiskey Talk.
Based on your description, I’m sure that I’d like this brand, just not sure if I’d like it more than my preferred bottle of Talisker. This might be challenging to set up, but I’d love to see you do a blind tasting of a few different Talisker bottles, like you label the bottle of glasses, pour each into it’s respective glasses, cover them, mix them up, go do something else, come back once you’ve forgotten, and see if you can do the blind tasting
A lot of people, especially in the UK, seem to be very anti Diageo right now. I think these special releases are great. Some are too expensive for me but I always try to get the Oban's, which have always been excellent, and then I'll try to get a good deal on another two that float my boat. Great show as always, cheers Daniel.
You might be pulling levers and pushing buttons behind the curtain my friend but, you make us think about improving ourselves and that makes you a Wizard .
Just next month I am moving to chase The Thing. Will it be everything I have always expected, nothing like it, or something in between? I don't know. But what I do know is that to not try, now when I have the chance, would haunt me, and that is no way to live life. Cheers!
I’ve always found Talisker to be on the mellow or more even handed side. Your reaction and description will definitely drive me to the bottle. Also forced to look up the spelling of hiraeth. Located two opposite pronunciations so apparently you can’t say it wrong.
Paraphrase from Blaise Pascal: There is a God-shaped vacuum in the heart of every [person] which cannot be filled by any created thing, but only by God the Creator, made known through Jesus Christ. That thing that you long for that you're trying to find in everything else can only be satisfied with God.

This one isn’t as bad pricing -wise but, yeah, still overpriced! Selling $95 whisky for $125. Some of these are double and triple what they ought to be.

A lot of wisdom in this one right here... cheers Daniel! 🥃

Daniel, I have got to say I am really enjoying your videos, I feel like I am learning with these, please keep it up
You hit my life on the head like a nail, thank you for the words of wisdom. Sometimes we need to hear what we don't want to hear.

Thank you for doing this! Didn't have this release, so drinking Talisker Dark Storm while watching this. Keep bringing the truth!
I freaking love these...
Whiskey and wisdom! Thank you very much.
Love talisker, thank you for this video!!!!
I do too! Have you had this special release 2023? I like it!
Love the vlog
Excellent video! Great topic and great Scotch!! Appreciate you story quality
I am a psychologist, and I approve this message 👍
Wow, a lot like that whiskey this was a heavy conversation. But another great one. Thank you 🥃
It was great to see you again at Matt's Whiskey Crusader's Castle recently! Hope to see you at the next Ball!!
These visits are what keep me from despairing over the current strife our country is going through.
This hits home

As someone living with crippiling depression... I really should try and give myself a break more often... 🖖😅🥃

Timely, thanks Daniel.
Well said daniel. We could all use and provide a bit more grace to each other.

Great episode!
In portuguese we have a similar concept: saudade. and our national music "fado" is all about it. Cheers!
Great video as always!
Thanks
Hits home for sure, thank you Daniel

I really do like the regular Talisker. Thanks for the video 🥃
Well said. Cheers! 🥃

Daniel, these are great videos you have been doing. Something really unique among whiskytube. But I have a question: How you feel about neck pour?
The Neck Pour is a lie.
Just next month I am moving to chase The Thing. Will it be everything I have always expected, nothing like it, or something in between? I don't know. But what I do know is that to not try, now when I have the chance, would haunt me, and that is no way to live life. Cheers!
The 2022 special release was 11 years old. The 2023 is a NAS.
Great story 👏 it seems you really like the talisker, you talked long about it 😅
I'm sure this has been asked, but what is the story with the painting?
Also, great sermon about grace.
I’ve always found Talisker to be on the mellow or more even handed side. Your reaction and description will definitely drive me to the bottle. Also forced to look up the spelling of hiraeth. Located two opposite pronunciations so apparently you can’t say it wrong.
I left a job of nearly 12 years that I loved and on my first day at the new job I literally said to myself, “what have I done?
Oh man. That's rough
Getting this and deferred on the Ardbeg you gave the thumbs down ..thanks
Which region of Scotland is Talisker from?
Island of Sky up the top North West Coast. You could call it Highlands. The closest town would be Inverness.
🙌🏻😁
early
How do you know it is 12 year old?
Google :)
I thought this is a NAS?
29👍

Not a Ted Talk, more like A Proof Point of View.
Daniel sounds like he's trying to be a theologian without being to theological for people.
Sad that the overpriced and over-marketed Diageo gets the spotlight :(
