Simply the BEST & most straitforward explanation I have ever found on any gardening topic. As a new gardener, I so appreciate the clear, detailed, & direct information you provided. No time wasted with extraneous jibber jabber, it was all about the topic at hand. Great camera work as well. I could actually see and understand what you were doing. Thank you so much! I feel like I've just learned a tremendous amount from you in relatively little time. You are a true Pro & an excellent teacher! :)
I have a peony tree that I have been growing for over 30 years. It's my most favorite plant and I do cut off dead stems but have been afraid to prune it more so your video helps a great deal. I just dug it up today and moved it to a different spot in my yard because I have a huge tree that is going to be cut down and I would have been sick if my tree peony was damaged in any way. I sure hope it like it's new forever home. 😊
Any tips for a tree peony that has been very neglected and is about 4-5 metres tall? All the flowers are way up high. I plan to reduce the height - do I just use the same principles?
Can't find ANY place that shows how to tell or plant bareroot peony that doesn't have any eyes. In that case, how do you tell the root from where the eye would be? I have 6 bareroot plants and not ONE of them has an eye on it. Not even a hint of one. can't tell the root from the eye part (since there isn't any) don't know if I'm planting them upside-down or not.................
I hope you figured this out, but in case you haven't this happened to me once and I'll share what I did. I looked for a flat part of the root and planted it with that side up. They usually have a crown and that's there the shoots come out. The nice thing about peonies is they are a root flower so if you plant it upside down but keep it watered and fertilized it will stay alive, but just won't produce very well. You can dig it up in the fall and replant it a different way. They are very forgiving.
You can, but have your consider revitalizing the area with some humic acid and trace minerals (i.e. green sand)? It doesn't need much but it is 20 yrs old so maybe add some fish fertilizer even. Sometimes old bushes just need a boost.
Where can I buy a peony tree? All I can see from the nurseries are the ones where they come back in spring. I want a tree just like the one you pruned. I’d appreciate if you can tell me where to find it. What do you call this peony? Peony Tree?

Excellent video! Very straight forward and informative. Thanks!
Just what I was looking for to carry out the pruning on an old tall tree peony that has become too enclosed.

Cricket Hill Nursery in Connecticut. I ordered two mature tree peonies from them.
How do you root tree peony branch cuttings
You've said to cut off everything that's dead but how do you know which stems are dead or alive?
Easy, to see if something is dead or alive simply scratch the bark slightly with your nail. If it is green inside its alive. 🙂🌱
