To get out of a quilting funk I usually sew something else. Tablecloth, curtains etc. Also go to a good quilt store and fondle fabrics...lol

I’m just the opposite. Social media inspires me. Especially watching tutorials where they actually sew on camera. I don’t know why but something about watching someone matching seams and building blocks sends me right to the sewing room.

I feel the same. I was going to do 4 weekly quilt alongs plus monthly. I was so overwhelmed. When will I walk the dog? When will I clean the floors? I ended up not doing any. Now I’m starting the monthly and going from there. And yes, social media is depressing! Thank you Ladies!!

Great advice on micro goals. I do tend to look at what I didn't finish versus what I finished. If I lose my sewjo, I will clean and organize my space, look through stash fabrics and patterns, and try to match the patterns and fabrics into projects to get excited to sew again.

Ladies & Billy, I've said this before but wanted to reiterate how very much I enjoy watching y'all!! You touch on so many things folks might be going through. I'm not on any social media, so all that doesn't bombard me with ideas, etc. I do watch & follow several people, do some of their quilt/sew alongs, but yes, we can't do them all! I'm retired so if I wanted to, could sew all day. Sometimes I do 😊😊 But there are days I just crochet alot.
I'm already getting Sherri's newsletter & signed up for Chelsi's newsletter-so glad to hear about that. Looking forward to seeing your next fabric line!!

I keep several projects going at the same time. If I become frustrated or bored with a project, I move to another. By the time I go back, I am excited and ready to resume. The other thing I do is consistently challenge myself to learn new skills and see how I can make a pattern my own by changing or rearranging things. Also, I write any ideas onto the page in my daily planner, then when I have time I research the idea. I find using social media with a purpose is good. It can be depressing to do anything passively. Just a few thoughts! 💕

When covid hit I thought I would get all my UFOS done. Living in a small country and being
TERRIFIED everyday by government warnings I couldn't see the point in sewing or knitting.
I'm now planning to get back to sewing. I wrote out a list of simple quilt patterns I will make.
I don't usually look at podcasts because I feel some are very self-serving but when I saw
in a funk I had to look. All the best to everyone for 2023. Happy Sewing.

I don't know why Martingale closed, but I did get some really good deals! I was very sorry to see them close and wrote them a letter letting them and their staff know that I thought they produced beautiful well photographed and designed books and I appreciated all their effort and was sorry to see them close and hoped that if the employees wanted that they would be able to find other employment and would keep them in my prayers. And thanked them for the amazing opportunity for the discount they were giving us.

A sewing funk is a great time to assess and document your sewing tools and supplies or, if you've already done that it's a good time to update your inventory list with any new purchases of rulers, patterns, kits etc, and remove anything you've consumed or donated. Also take some pictures and send to your insurance company to put in your file. Should disaster strike your insurance company won't reimburse without documentation. If you've been sewing for years you may have quite a bit of money invested, would be a shame to start from scratch again.

I totally think that all the angst and stress we feel is mostly self-imposed. Most of us don’t have someone standing over us telling us that we HAVE to do it all. We just really need to stop and figure out what really NEEDS to be done and then maybe something we WANT to get done. I heard a while back that people tend to wear our busyness like badges to make us feel like we CAN do everything in other people’s eyes. Are we trying to impress at the expense of our physical and/or mental health? Really something to think about in the beginning of a new year.😊Thank you for your podcasts!

I was in a sewing funk due to some unexpected family obligations right at a time that I had four baby quilts being made a the same time. Then when I would go in my sewing room, I felt pressure that the babies were already born and I just couldn't get motivated. But, I know that if I just go into the sewing room I feel so much better. Now, three of the four quilts are ready to put on my longarm (made larger to be more toddler sized) and the fourth is my foster grandson's quilt which is in progress now. One way that I got back in the swing of sewing was attending my guild's retreat a weeks ago. Sewing with friends is so inspirational!

I enjoy so many textile hobbies that I guess I never get in a funk, always too many projects, too little time. I also have a lot of UFO’s so I can pick up something that interests me at the time. Variety is the answer. With quilting, I enjoy both hand and machine work, piecing, appliqué, etc. I make all sorts of quilty small items. Researching quilt history. I like to cross stitch, embroidery, crochet and have knitted. So what ever calls to me is what I do and family members are also requesting projects so if for a second I don’t know what to do..haha. If you are in a funk, try something new is my advice.

It seems to me that a slump is usually caused with our mind or body telling us that we need a break. Take the opportunity to do some self-care!!! If you have been under a lot of pressure or sick or coming off holidays with a lot of family company or activities then enjoy a nap, a walk, a staycation. You will get it back. Also just set a timer and finish a project in small bites or use the timer to organize your space..

I always do a clean up and reorganization. Then I assess everything and get rid of things I know I won't use, whether it's fabric, tools, patterns and books, or projects. I make lists of things I want to do and ones I need to do (work-related or gifts) and figure out what I need to complete and gather everything together. I have other hobbies that I'll go to for a while and when I get my sewjo back I start with something small or easy. Sometimes that's finishing something, such as binding a quilt. I do watch videos, but I don't focus only on a tutorial or chats, I switch it around frequently. I listen to videos like this while working and tutorials when I'm on the treadmill or taking a break in my sewing room

I am interested to know what aspect of your business is, as a percentage, the biggest earnings. I have been wondering if fabric sales is the biggest? And now that your publisher is going out of business, which is very sad, do you think you will find another, especially for the planner. I just started using it January 1 and I really like it. Just ordered your pattern of the month, so beautiful! Thank you so much. Sherri any suggestions for fabric? I am guessing the one you used is no longer available? Oh, I have 3 of the needle threaders but I never knew there was a block to go with them. I'm so dissapointed I missed them. Chelsie I think burnout could easily happen to you easier because you still have children at home. Your mother doesn't. I don't either but my issue is you two both have obligations with new fabric designs and patterns and I don't so what happens to me is I'm retired ... may sound great but I have worked full time since I was 16 years (and yes, I have 3 children but raised them as a single mother) so now I tell myself I deserve a rest. I tend to put off things. I will tell myself "Oh, I will do it tomorrow, then tomorrow my little dog will cry when I'm in my sewing room so I tend to tell myself she will miss me, maybe I should spend the day with her and sew tomorrow. I am horrible at making excuses then feel bad when I don't get things done. My job was so stressful! Don't we all say that? I was an accountant for many years then I went to school and became a Registered nurse and did that for 38 years. I am just enjoying life but still feel stressed when I hear Kimberly Jolly say she quilted 30 something quilts last year : (

In a prior podcast you had mentioned doing doing a sew along for your “Happy Go Lucky” pattern; have you made a decision yet? I have the pattern. I am waiting for Simply Delightful fabric to come in.

Question.... When Val and Marion were on your podcast Marion mentioned that Chelsea needed to clip her threads. What threads exactly was she referring to?

    • @sherrimcconnell4094
      @sherrimcconnell4094 ปีที่แล้ว

Threads on the back of the quilt that might show through a white background when quilted.

Do you have to use a special needle for the threader. I have one and it does not thread the needle.

I don't...but I'm imagining if the eye is very small it wouldn't work.

Chelsi mentioned a drawing pen she used to draw on an Episode, but I have not been able to find the Episode again. What brand/type of pen does she like? Sorry off topic.

Another must, to tell your quilter is gender neutral, or specific for the quilting pattern.

Are you in a funk or are you procrastinating? My mom had asked me to make her a pair of pajamas. Shortly after, I found myself in a crafting funk. No interest in going in my sewing room. When I sat down and thought about it I realized - I just didn’t want to make the pajamas and my subconscious had decided that I shouldn’t do any crafts at all! Once I buckled down and made the pj’s (which weren’t as difficult as I had imagined) my crafting mojo returned!
