The story is similar to ours... still grew sales even though we trimmed off service area, services, etc. and through it all simplification was for the best with increased efficiency and profit.
Awesome video. I'm on year 10 and I feel extremely disappointed in where my company stands. Suprised I'm still alive but I have to simplify things and get back to basics. I know where my mistakes are and thankful for actually still being in good standing considering all the mistakes I've done. 2021 will be better regardless of what's going on in this world. It all comes down to me and what I can control. Thanks for the video.
Keep God first and watch and see what happens not only in your business but in All aspects of life. I was in same situation and business blew up less than a year later. GOD Bless in Jesus name!!
And you will be around as others who leave their business to others lose everything. Nobody is going to fight to keep your profits or growth unlike the owner. Keep up the great work
We have a very similar story. It's always counter intuitive that more services = more money. Where its really the complete opposite. Get good at one or two services and stick with those. Nice video Mike !
Very inspiring, i find it very impressive how you made that jump on year 2, i really need to step my game up lol, thanks for all the guidance bro 💯 I'ma buy your p4p course
For office manager, how would you justify the timeframe to hire one, especially if it’s part time and you can’t answer the phone while working your other job? What should you pay them?
I have 6 years and then Ill retire from the Army. I am torn on what business i want to get into. I have narrowed it down to maybe Lawn Care or HVAC. Lawn Care seems very simple but I worry about the Winter months.
I know this is late but you have to actually budget throughout year for the winter and not kill the goose. Also you should earn the right for full time. Meaning during the winter go get another job or have a part time job until the business is able to pay you enough to only do that.
So is what im gathering is master a few things instead of trying to be like a jack of all trades? Most profit i imagine would come from mowing and mulching due to minimal overhead in operation doing so. Do you feel if you really just went hard on the mowing mulching and clean ups that you wouldnt have gone through such a terrible rough patch like your years in hardscape and turf?
What’s your ideal worker’s average age? I’m looking at Commercial auto insurance prices and they’re are higher if you got younger drivers what do you suggest?
I’ll hire an 18 year old if they can work hard... even if they cost a little more on insurance. The cost of labor (and efficiencies gained from a good Team member) far outweigh the extra cost of insurance if they are younger
Thanks Mike for all the great info and encouragement you provide for growing our lawn business! Any advise for someone like me who is running a full time lawn business solo and providing for my family as our only source of income? Just because the investment of time and money required to grow like I want to isn't there when our personal financial needs are so great and I'm barely able to manage everything as it is.
Didn’t you have at least one lawn care company acquisition through these years? I just recall this being stated before. This would help explain the revenue numbers a little better if this was the case. Liz was definitely the common denominator to your successes. I’ve hired two office assistants over the year and they created massive problems for the company which stunted company growth.
Yes, good catch. Sorry we make these videos without much prep. Yes, last year we acquired a struggling lawn care business. A year later about 60 of their mowing clients are still with us. We have a total of 660+ total recurring mow clients
I grew up with my family owning businesses. Honestly I am willing to bet Mike will have to come back fulltime and fire his advisors that are trying to get him out of the office. Talk to people who are older and still have a business. My uncle just passed away after owning and running a Crane company till the day he died. Don't ever trust your company to anyone else
Awesome video, I wish you would be more specific on how you made $200K in your second year. That's a big jump from the first year's revenue, especially with only one employee. With 45 accounts at twice a month with the average customer paying $50 per cut, you are making $54K a year. How the heck did you make 200K with one employee lol.
Financial statements for the second year are shown in this video: The Financial Statement of a Million-Dollar Lawn Care Business (Detailed-Breakdown) th-cam.com/video/yhw-71LvEUY/w-d-xo.html
14:34 Slap your editor! You even restarted the clip, Shame on him! No just kidding but Course time since mike is such a lad! Trim it down(clip to clip) cut the crap (nonesense like at 14:34), ensure fluidity*** THEN add your, music to fit the mood.. Finalize with your effects like screen wipes "swoosh" sounds or whatever, the money stuff, name tags and so on..!! but always - Trim it down and cut the crap mr editor! Thats your tip from a rapidly growing youtuber who has systemized his video editing based off of Mike ferociousness to systemize everything lol Tip Before editing, hit your Vocals with a limiter, then... ensure your music volume is 20dB's lower than your lowest Vocal dB (television standard) If your vocals are hovering between -10/-20dB Set your music to -40dB or just above (This makes your background audio perfect for headphones and for speaker people it doesnt muddy the audio's together) Your video editing and production should be as systemized as any other business you operate! If you use the program Davinci resolve, you can Render Videos DIRECT to TH-cam in private to copy/paste your description in place (save it to google docs or whatever you use) Thanks for all the quality info Mike, and good work team!

When you transitioned into the bigger jobs Hardscaping where did you learn those skills? or did you outsorce the work?
TH-cam 🤣 and learning from local dealers/suppliers
TH-cam "University" has made me quite a few dollars these past few years as well...lol

What process do you follow for open book profit sharing ? Is there a book you can refer me to ?

Great content quick question so as you grew you clients were you mowing them all year long as January to December ? Or just growing season ?
Some of our franchisees mow year round. Locally in WA we mow March - November and then do recurring winter services on a biweekly basis from Dec - Feb
Okay great info thank you for the information blessing to you
How were you able to get your bachelor's and able to work on your MBA at only 18?
Skipped a few grades and did first couple years of college while finishing grade 11 and 12.
Dedication.

According to having 60 accounts, you are charging them $277 a mo/ to make 200k in the year. Seems unreasonable.
