  • Inside a Tiny New York Micro Apartment thats only 90 Square Feet! Could you live in some thing this small? To set it up, you will need to be VERY creative because space is almost non-existent, but this small nyc apartment does have a few things working in its favor! Its in the west village by New york university, and would be a great student apartment or apartment for someone without a whole lot of worldly possessions. Thats really the only use case I can think of for a small new york apartment like this, which is definitely in the running for “smallest new york apartment” of all time because its only 90 square feet. Check out this Tiny NYC Apartment Tour and let me know if you could live here without going crazy!

    For $1200 there should be a built-in loft that you can sleep in, with stairs, not an oversized shelf. I don't know why, but I love seeing the tiny apartments more than I like seeing the massive ones.

    • @alisonfraser3305
      @alisonfraser3305 3 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      It is unfortunate that there is really nowhere to put a ladder, let alone a staircase that would not block either the front door, sink, or bathroom. Unless it was one of those library ones that roll on a track. I have no idea how people dare to sleep on lofts. I had a big princess bed when I was little, and I woke up between bed and floor most nights. Why my parents could not have put a rail up needs to be discussed in therapy. But I often wonder how many adults are killed falling off of these sleeping shelves...

    My ideas are: 1. Pedestal sink storage cabinet. 2. Redo the bathroom: Switch the toilet and shower areas. 3. A rolling ladder for the mini loft that is situated over the kitchen sink/cabinetry area: Telescopic Vertically Stored Steel Sliding Rolling Library Ladder Hardware Track Kit. 4. Compact Refridgerator Mini Fridge with Freezer (to replace that larger fridge). 5.Portable Mini Fridge Organizer to place the microwave and mini fridge with freezer on. 6. Ductless Heating and Cooling System (this system is placed on a upper wall--instead of the heating systems on the lower wall/floor and in the window) for more space capacity. 7. Pullout sectional couch which converts to a bed. 8 and 9. A table folding desk (mostly for dining); and a floating desk (for paperwork purposes); both to be placed along the wall near the entry door. 10. Folding and stackable storage drawer organizer 11. Closet Basket shelf storage bins. (These would be in the loft area). 12. Clothes rack with a canvas cover (this item would have wheels). 13. A dresser that could also serve partially as an entertainment center (i.e., a Soho type dresser). 14. Remove that shelf that is over the microwave. 15. Put an adjustable aluminum window screen in the window. 16. Mini blinds for the window as well. 17. Even though the location is where it is, (McDougal Street, Manhattan, NYC), and because there is no formal kitchen, the list price for this apartment should be about $1060 a month. Just sayin'.

    Always enjoy these apartment viewings! NOW -- one recommendation -- from someone who's lived in Manhattan for 45 years -- living in a tiny apartment like this for a good 10 years prior to graduating to a 1 bedroom, a sofa bed is the ideal way to go for a studio! Having a loft bed would make the place insufferably small and claustrophobic -- be able to treat the space by day as a living area, and by night as bedroom, opening up the sofa bed. It worked fine for me that way -- having friends over -- they're in a living room. At night, opening up the sofa bed, you're in your bedroom. As far as I'm concerned, this is what made NYC life just fine!

    Could you put a mattress on the storage space above the kitchen, attach a barrier so you don't roll off, and use that as a sleeping loft? Use a ladder for access. As for prep space, a rolling kitchen island can be used to prep food, then can be used with a counter height stool as a table, then rolled out the way when not in use.

    I've had my share of NYC tiny apts, but this really takes the cake. I doubt if the landlords want you drilling more holes in the walls to affix more shelves or holes drilled in the kitchen countertop to add a drop down table. Cash, you are so funny, you make my whole day with these apt tours. Seriously, you come up with these ideas to try to make a closet into an apt. Everybody mentions a loft bed, and I guess that's a good idea if you don't get up during the night to pee. The fact you can't bend over brushing your teeth would be a deal breaker for me..........omg, when you said that I almost rolled off my chair onto the floor, seriously I was laughing so hard, I couldn't even catch my breath. I have a feeling all the people that said they wouldn't have a problem living like that, probably have never had to. A college student, yeah, I could see that, but I wouldn't want to sign a 10 year lease, although I don't think there are leases in NYC these days more than a year. I think it should come with padded walls, so if you have a meltdown, you don't hurt yourself.

    I'm strangely addicted to these vids.... I am British, never been over there but would love to! I rent a lovely apartment in an historic converted cotton mill in north west UK. It has one bedroom on an enclosed mezzanine first floor and a big square sitting room incorporating a small kitchen, all beautifully modern, I also have a spacious decked balcony. The mill has about 360 apartments over 5 floors. 2 mins walk from shops etc and for all this I pay 525 pounds per month! When I see the rental prices there for teeny tiny apartments, I think I'm pretty lucky! I love your brilliant ideas of how to make the most of every bit of space and how you describe the areas in detail. Great fun and interesting to watch! 😀

You could justify the location pre pandemic given all the jazz and live music venues, but now that entire area around NYU is dirtier than ever and one big Covid hot spot. That apart from all the druggies hanging out at or near the W4th Street train station and the daily muggings, assaults, etc.. I would get a 2 burner induction burner and put shelves by the door for a convection oven. I would put a small sleeper sofa in the widest part of the apartment. I would put a small folding leaf table with folding chairs. . Also next to the fridge a rolling wardrobe with shelves. I would pur baskets on the shelves. I would put some kind of ladder with steps that I would bolt to the wall and use the loft for off season storage items, Seaonal decor, etc. I would also get a small coffee table that can raise up to different heights. I would get a comfortable folding chair with cushions and a wall lamp for the living space. A lot of shelves in every space, and on the loft. I would also store a folding table and chairs in the loft.

      Truth is, as a person who started out here pretty poor, living in a tiny place could really depress the life out of you. I lived a couple of subway stops away in Brooklyn in a 2 story brownstone with 2 roommates. We rarely saw each other. Given what we know about the neighborhood, this type of unit is clearly best suited for a college student. Think about the typical dorm room set up. This offers an upgrade. Instead of splitting a similar sized room with a roommate.....and having to use a communal bathroom. A student would have their own private bedroom, their own private bathroom, and if they add a small two burner hot plate enough leeway with that Kitchenette to cook ramen, oatmeal, scramble some eggs, maybe some quick spaghetti. All for $1200. If you do the math on what they'd be paying to room on campus, at best the price would be equal, and most likely higher.........and they would still be sharing a room and bathroom with other people. Working adults would obviously be better served with a more spacious unit.

    That is basically an SRO room with a private bath. That rent amount is WAY overpriced. Here in Vancouver, Canada something like this rents for $ 800.00 - again overpriced, but I guess better than having a roommate or shared washrooms. Lose those shelves and get a couple of tall bookcases/wardrobes from Ikea with doors to store your clothes and other belongings. Twin bed, one comfy chair and a small table/desk to work & eat on. Get a hotplate & a toaster oven along with microwave to do some cooking. Not a place you would want to live long term, but if location is everything you could make this work for awhile.

    If I were a college student this might be a good alternative to a dorm room. I'd use the loft for storage and have a single bed that doubled as a couch to sit on. Next to the fridge I'd have a narrow table and chair as my workspace with a wall-mounted TV. Since almost none of my clothing needs to hang, I'd fit in a few shelves for that. There's a fellow on TH-cam that has a place even smaller than this with a shared hall bath, and he's got everything he needs, so this one should be easy. I suppose the ridiculously high price is because of the location.

  • @tanzanite8908

    This place has a ton of potential! You just need imagination! Find out how much weight that loft can hold, and you may have a bed option right there. Otherwise, a loft bed would be perfect.
    I’d move the fridge over 2 feet and put the microwave on top of one of those floating shelves. A single burner hot plate that you store in the base cabinet, as well as a small crockpot can complete the kitchen. Instead of attaching a foldable counter section to the entrance side of the counter, an IKEA mobile butcher block island would be better, and will give more storage as well.
    In the bathroom, I’d put up attention bar almost over the toilet for the shower curtain, it would give you more room compared to where the existing bar is now.
    Another option for sleeping is a Japanese style futon mattress. It can be put in the loft during the day, and pulled down to the floor at night...
    But, at least it has a private bathroom!!
    (This place is three times the size of my “office” at home... I work out of a 5X6 “closet”...)

      i've seen on Amazon, these futon/bunk bed combos...& a trunk for a coffee table=storage?...a coatrack/boot/uMbrella stand/holder by the door...sleeping up on that 'loft' would be suicide cos if you move in your sleep you end up on the floor & that's quite a fall..they really should have put doors on it for a closet..as is it's good for holding standing plastic shelves, like one for bathroom linens & one for bed linens? would need a ladder or high step stool to get to them though which will end up being a royal pain in the arse..& kitchen needs at least one bakers rack on wheels for the microwave & coffee pot & hot plate & crock pot(an instapot is best cos it does more things) a second bakers rack could hold foodstuffs & dishes..there are a lot of combos one can make out of the cube storage containers, you can buy as many of them as you need & stack em artistically & they look like furniture..the room is wide enough for all that..but the bathroom..that is a problem...don't slip cos no matter what direction ya fall in yer gonna hit yer head on something hard..can't miss em......me personally..i give this one a pass..it will drive ya crazy in a few months

    Happy Easter, Cash!

      New York decriminalized recreational weed just the other day. Cops can't go after you for holding or consuming now.

    It costs about 18k per year (9-months) at NYU for room and board, but that includes breakfast/lunch/dinner, gym, security, lounges, game rooms, etc.
    For this prison cell box it'll cost you about 16k per year (12 months).

      @thoughts3897 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      But prison has three hots and a cot. The dorm might be a better deal.

    • @ShortRound42
      @ShortRound42 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@thoughts3897 The dorm compared to this is definitely better. Besides the meals and gym, you get a bed, desk, wardrobe and dresser. Access to a world class library and computers.
      Then if someone stays here, if they even eat the minimum of about $10/meal, 3x per day they'd spend an extra $10k per year, so they're WAY over an NYU dorm price for room and board.

      You'd defianly have to be a minimilists to live here though.

    Omg, Cash is hilarious but If ever I would need a place in NY, I would definitely look him up. He would definitely know where to go for sure. He does his homework on the areas! Impressive

    Too bad it doesn't have a sink sprayer. That would be the deal breaker. But the bathroom does have a medicine cabinet!

    Yup, you'd have to have a loft type thing to put your bed up so you could have space underneath. Wet bathroom, very interesting!

      I wanted to comment that the bathroom is called a "wet room" but wasn't sure if people would think that's gross. LOL I didn't invent the term! 🤪

  • @tracykelly6887

    You could consider that bathroom as a "wet" room which is prevalent in tiny homes, r.v.'s and such. With some hard won "3 dimensional" thinking "outside the box", it's doable...if you must live in that part of town.

      Yes, some of the small apartments are ridiculous. No bathroom, no kitchen sink, micro-fridge not provided. This landlord at least made sure that the apartment really is an apartment. Sure, no actual stove, but at least you have a microwave and a bit of counter next to outlets and a sink.
