I pity anybody who thinks these people are trash. Im Irish, lived for 10 years in the Welsh Valleys, and have a big chunk of my heart there. The most honest and earthy people I never imagine could exist. I had moments where I was stunned by the deep levels of insight shown to me. The creator and director of this programme are the lowest form of human, i'll fit to lick the boots of anybody from the Valleys. How smart you are, manipulating believing you are outsmarting kindness.
It's all bravado I think, they aren't having fights all of the time. They are salt of the earth working class people, I once worked with people like that in a factory when I was a teenager I then went and got my career etc sorted. But never since then have I worked with such honest kind people with a real sense of community.
The unfortunate thing is that the work that they are suited to doesn't exist anymore, but they are still more generous than any selfish rich prick I've ever met. It's a shame community is pretty much dead in the UK, the loss of public owned industry has turned Brits into people that don't even know their next door neighbors.
Skinningrove is a very friendly place now and house prices are booming as people want to move there now the dickheads are gone. Some people are still pretty 'strong' but they are a great laugh. Spent one night chatting to some older guys who liked to congregate by the front with some beers. Real salt of the earth types with no pretentions.

I was born and grew up on the outskirts of county Durham and Sunderland right on the border in the 80`s and 90`s in a village community and you did indeed need to be tough growing up. But the people i grew up with are the salt of the earth straight talking and honest! And they would welcome me back anytime. I since have settled into a welsh town also a former mining community and the same goes here, the so called rough parts of town have the best community and the best people imo.

i live in skinningrove and lady with doll heads in her garden is my care takers mam, and im well good friends with DJ's sister Fluff beleive it or not.
I passed through there about 3 years ago, on cycle tour around the GB coast. Oh, from Redcar down to Whitby is a pretty rough area (and a bastard to cycle!). Kids had lit a fire in the shelter down by the harbour, and this was 3pm. But I grew up in the 70s in an economically depressed town in NW Lancs, and we used to get up to tricks... I get it. Even though I was on a bike worth £1,500 and had about £500 worth of kit on it, nobody bothered me. I even said 'alright' to 2 very rough looking characters on a back street, and they could have robbed me in a second, but they replied "alright, mate". I've felt far more nervous in many other places in the UK than I did in Skinningrove. I understand such places... just don't put on airs like you're better than them and the people will treat you fine; and show some interest in the place and they'll be friendly and chat all day.. it's that simple. I enjoyed the hour I spent there and glad I did go there.... it made an impression on me, that's why I remember it. It's a special place.

Rich people can have bad teeth and are debased humans. These people are poor and uneducated, where only your strength or violence matters otherwise you're perceived as weak and then you'll find it very hard to look after yourself. These villages aren't full of bad people, it's poverty that causes this.
