Before you close a scene turn on wireframe mode (number 4). When you open your scene again it will open faster because it does not have to load the textures.
When I started using Maya, back in 1998, one general rule about file formats was this: don't use (or limit the use of) compressed formats like jpeg. That's because Maya has to waste time decompressing it and internally convert them into its actual native format, the IFF. So the advice (back in the days) was to use uncompressed formats (TGA, PNG, TIFF with no compression, IFF even better...) as much as possible. It surprised me that now the JPEG is the best to be used. Another great tip, which I don't know if still valid, is to keep the images in a square aspect ratio and at a resolution which is multiple of 8 (8*8, 16*16, 128*128... And so on and so forth). Even if the image has a non square aspect, just enclose it into a square leaving black borders to fill the rest. Reason for this, again according to the old school Maya usage, is that Maya does this anyway at display and render time. So feeding the software with already prepped images/textures, will make things easier and faster.
ATENTION: Autodesk plans on placing a ''life cycle " on existing perpetual licenses and not providing activation for what we payed for.People need to be aware and fight for their legal rights!
There was a feature i used years ago, forgot what it was called, but when u rotate the camera around a model it would switch to wireframe while rotating and then back to shaded view, it was great for denser meshes until viewport 2 came out, now i don't know if it's in maya.
Thank you for tip #2! it's a godsend now that my hypershade was runnning very very very slow indeed (the reason why i landed on your video) (by the time I'm typing this I haven't gotten past the tip#2, though!)
I'm running 2019 and both XGen and Interactive Grooming look normal to me. I'd check to make sure the XGen plug-in is loaded properly. If it is, try deleting your preferences or doing a full re-install.
MASH is so incredible slow, even with static objects, 1000 instances are ok, 100.000 are horrible in Viewport 2.0, Threadripper 3990X, RTX 2080 Ti. Unfortunately, the scene lint window does not even know MASH, Maya 2019.3.1
Do you have any tips for GPU rendering? I have 8 GB of dedicated GPU memory and when I try to render with it (admittedly with a very complex model), it keeps running out of memory and crashing!
Depending on how complex your scene is, 8GB of GPU memory may not be enough (it's certainly on the lower end of dedicated GPU memory). Try downloading a GPU monitoring software like GPU-Z, then watch the graph as you render. If you're seeing huge spikes, it's likely you need to either reduce the complexity of your scene, switch to CPU rendering, or upgrade your GPU.
My maya has vertexes showing on the mesh and I have to go and reset the settings every time I open maya, is there any way I can fix it so it doesn't make all objects in the scene show their vertices?
I have scene which consists lot of model . And my scene is too heavy. So how to load heavy scene without any CPU problem. I heard about reference linking but Don't know what is that , and how to use that .
Basically, save your models each to their own files, then use the Reference Editor to "import" them into your main scene. This will allow you to replace them with less complex proxies, or even remove them temporarily from your scene completely. See this topic for more info: help.autodesk.com/view/MAYAUL/2019/ENU/?guid=GUID-00DA055B-3559-4E60-979F-DA862BBCA9C8
On number nine, *especially with higher core count machines you mean?* Those tend to have lower per-core performance, hence you have to save more cores to regain ui performance.
Be nice if that profiler thing would show all hardware and not just cpu.. Kinda useless looking at cpu/thread usage, when your GPU or even hard drive/s is slowing you down..
GPU texture ram exceeded, texture loading failed. Please reduce max texture resolution clamp in the Viewport 2.0 Options and retry. Texture display and MSAA are already turned off to reduce memory consumption maya 2018 errooo plzzz help meee
Try this: in the Panel Toolbar go to Renderer > Viewport 2.0 > [ ], then make sure "Clamp Texture Resolution" is turned on and that "Max Texture Resolution" is set to Automatic. If that doesn't help, then set Max Texture Resolution to Custom and progressively try to turn the value lower until your scene is okay.
setAttr "hardwareRenderingGlobals.enableTextureMaxRes" 1; setAttr "hardwareRenderingGlobals.textureMaxResolution" 512; It will change your display textures resolutions on viewport 2.0 to 512, you need to do it for every scene so is better if you create a button with this mel. That or buy a graphic card with more ram.
Not sure if this is going to be seen by someone, but if you have a solution for this random "filtering outliner", that sometimes is happening for no reason at all (No Filter is set or anything), i'd VERY much appreciate it. It's driving me mad
How #4 is presented is a bit misleading, if you open maya and close it, the second time it starts way faster because there's already a lot stuff loaded. Unloading plugins speed up stuff but not like you're showing in this video.
This is a fair point. To be honest, I actually thought I'd started Maya at least once before recording (especially since I did a few takes), but upon closer inspection of the footage it seems like that might not have been the case (either that, or something I did in the interim unloaded those components from RAM - possibly the screen capture software). That being said, the general gist of #4 remains valid: unloading plug-ins will still help with startup. The exact degree to which it helps will depend largely on your own system setup.
I think that if Maya loaded all the non essential components in the background allowing the user to interact with maya immediately, the perceived speed would make a huge difference.

If you're on windows, try hitting Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open the Task Manager, then go to the "Performance" tab. In here you can see a breakdown of where your computer is spending all its time. Down at the bottom you should see your two graphics cards. If the wrong one is maxing out, then it's probably being used by Maya. Another thing to consider is if your RAM is being used up by a million Chrome browser tabs, or multiple instances of games or even other Maya sessions. That can also lead to a lot of slowdown.
