I saw AIC 4 times with Layne and he would just stand on stage and hold the mic stand with one foot on the monitor. Nothing flashy, not running around like a maniac. It was just him and the hypnotic power of his voice. He had complete control over the audience. He could have told us to burn down city and we’d have done it. He had the most powerful voice in the history of Heavy Metal. He was unbelievable.
Distant Galaxy Music thank you for sharing that I love it when someone says good things about Layne instead of all the drug stuff!! Layne is a true Legend and he is so missed!
Agreed. Somehow I think the world has missed something with Sean not being able to "gift" the world his comedic chops. I hope he someday at least writes a book, and I hope it's just as hilarious as he is.
Sean is one of the most hilarious drummers. Not shy, not reserved, definitely always getting in with the joke, if he wasn't the one who started it. His and Jerry's sense of humor is fantastic.
That's what a few years of being in a traveling show with Grampa will do for you! I'm continually impressed by their musicianship: Layne - vocals, drums and guitar Jerry - guitar, vocals, bass, piano (I think) Sean - drums, guitar, piano Mike & Mike - bass and ....not too clear there All multitalented, multi-instrumentalists. Let this be a lesson, drugs are not cool, were never cool. Drugs took this young man and took his life. Layne said they worked for him at first but then turned against him. That's what they do. Layne deserves to be alive and living a good life, not dead. If anyone tries getting you to use drugs say no and if they don't listen, punch them in the face.
@Gubba Bump well, there are certain personalities so to speak that have a higher chance of getting heavily addicted, on top of that, you have to consider the state of mind of the individual the first time they try it. For some people it will be an unpleasant experience that they won’t feel like repeating...for others, it will be pretty much a death sentence.

Layne Thomas Staley (Kirkland, Washington, 22 de agosto de 1967-Seattle, Washington, 5 de abril de 2002) fue el vocalista de Alice in Chains, una de las bandas más importantes del movimiento grunge en Seattle. I'm not sure why so many comments ask "why Layne?" If you listen to Jerry's comments, or read the De Sosa book, which is loaded with the band's comments, you'll know "why." Also, I'm guessing people asking this either have never personally struggled with addiction, anxiety and depression, or have never been close to someone who has....the "why" is in there and pretty obvious. I respect the man, he made a choice and obviously it didn't work out...but he made a choice.
Great comment, there is a lot of ignorance about the disease of addiction in these comments. Layne only had a choice in whether he would initiate drug use or not. But as soon as the substance abuse makes a physical change in the brain it becomes a disease which defining symptom is the loss of control over substance use.
Opioids r serious shit. All it took was 1 pain killer and I was hooked. Been addicted for nearly 15 years. I've tried many drugs but opioids give the most euphoric high I've ever experienced and they kill pain. Acid, mushrooms, coke, they don't compare.
I can watch Layne sing, talk,...stand in a corner all day long and never get tired of it. Absolutely mesmerizing!
+k tuccillo That's exactly how I feel
Me too 😍
The same here😻
I feel the same way, he intrigues me deeply.

Lucky you. I saw them with Duvall but never with Layne. I was 13 when he did his last show.
Always think about what an amazing stuff would come from layne today if he would be here
Haha but in the early days with the band sleeze Layne run over the stage like a maniac🏃😅
Sounds awesome wish I could have seen him but early 90s I was a little kid
