Loved the video - would love to see more! Useful to know you find the expedition a bit small, I was looking at this exact hammock but might think again now. Sleeping off the ground is so important if you can in NZ bush, but building a raised bed is alot of faffing around, so definitely think a hammock is the way to go. Liked and subbed! 👍
A hammock definitely covers a lot of the issues well: uneven ground, damp ground, quick set up. I found the Expedition a bit small for me but it was still worth the money. A well made Hennessy was good for my bad back.

I would imagine it's a bit like a space blanket, and my experience with those has always been wet. I definitely need to try hammock Camping at some stage, it would open up a whole load more locations for me to pitch up. Any recommendations? Thanks Zeb. The SOL Escape Bivy is pretty good at breathability. I have not really experienced any problems with condensation. In this video, I set up to use my blanket inside the bivy but I think I just ended up using the blanket and air mattress. I had great results with the Hennessy Expedition Hammock. I have a few back problems and I have never had a bad back after sleeping in the hammock. I bought the Expedition due to price and it was made for someone my size (1.7mtr), but I have always found it a bit too small. I may move up to the larger Safari Hammock.
Great video Dave, that setup was awesome, love that Italian woollen blanket. Great to see the NZ bush and you back out. Thanks for watching my drinking vid, my Mum had a moan about it so I took it down lol, but just to say I think you mentioned doing a wee big of cooking, no matter how simple, is an awesome idea, especially with the military gear etc, really looking forward to seeing something like that in the future, I just bought some French army military tent f2 grade, 1993 issue but brand new as in unused, so looking forward to trying that out some day, needs a tarp over it I hear though! Hi Rob. That was in summer so pretty mild temperatures at night. Still need to have that insulation barrier between me and the hammock, though. Without that insulation I tend to feel the cold at about night fall.
@@southernlandsolo7839 I use hennensy hammocks before in the bush but got back back cold all night. Could you do a video about edible fern trees? Like the mamaku etc?
@@libgapper9761 The Mamaku is high on my list. I am looking forward to trying that one out. It will be a while before I can, but it is number one on my must do list. Definately need an insulation layer between your back and the hammock. I use a blow-up camping mattress. A quilt/blanket/poncho liner under the hammock and surrounding you like a cocoon, may also take care of the cold problem.
Excellent video mate cheers! More survival forging would be great I'm very interested on what I could eat and forage. If you have any good book recommendations for edible and usable plants/foods in NZ that'd be appreciated! Maybe a video on some medicinal plants (Excluding old mary J lol)
lol. I don't get up North enough to cover those plants bro haha. The best recommendation I can give for a wild edible book is A Field Guide To The Native Edible Plants Of New Zealand by Andrew Crowe. ISBN 978-0-14-301922-0. Your local Whitcoulls most likely has one on the shelf or can get it in for you.

Good one Chris. I saw some reviews on the F2 Tent. I heard it leaks a bit but it looks awesome for space and comfort.
