    Also if you are look at something else to add to the content would like to learn some common phrases in either Balinese or Indonesian, and for bonus points which one to use.

    I asked a local if there were sharks in Bali and he said no. Maybe we didn’t understand each other, we were at Kuta beach and maybe he was talking in reference to that area. So now I understand, from what Damian said, the area had a shark attack in the past, so there are in fact sharks around Bali island.

    • @TheMonkeys
      @TheMonkeys  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes I think do he more likely thinking about the area of Kuta. Anyway last time were sharks around 2010 so

    • @wisnupurwanto5322
      @wisnupurwanto5322 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'll be very sad if there's no sharks in Bali water. Sharks is a good indicator of healthy ecosystem and the effort of sharks protection.
      I'm glad more and more sharks can be seen around Bali. Don't worry, mostly is reef sharks which is not agresive to human. In fact very shy.
      However, you may find bullshark in the Balian beach where the water is murky, a typical habitat of bullshark.

    Great Idea having Winnie give instructions on cooking Balinese food. Sambal Matah is just something I have never found in my Country and I love it. I miss sambal matah. It was surfers from my Country that made Bali famous back in the 70's. Thailand doesn't have surf. Langkawi Malaysia does not either. Bali does. By the way, the next "big" tourist destination is Roti Island near Kupang and if Kupang gets an International Airport then it will open up very quickly. Why? Because the Surfers are wanting to go there.

    Hey guys! Wow, absolutely fantastic and exciting news about Winny's new foodie channel! Mum, Dad and me are over the moon to hear you say this and we can't wait for you to start, Winny! We are ecstatic in fact and will be there with bells on for sure and supporting you right from the very beginning--as we know all your other faithful followers will be as well! I realise you know this, Winny but just wanted to say the Cincau hijau in your Es Daluman is called Grass Jelly in English :D hehehe. It is actually very good for health! Yeah, my mates and I used to surf Balian quite a lot as teenagers back in the early 80's and right through our 20's. Usually we would surf Balian on the way to and back home from Medewi and sometimes we would stay there. I remember always having nightmares when I slept at Balian (and the same at Lembongan for some reason, which was really strange considering I don't normally have nightmares). Balian was always a mystical kind of place though, hence the name, I suppose, and yes, well known for its sharks. Without a doubt this is because of the river mouth right there at the break. Funny, I remember a particular time when we were surfing right out the back there on a big day back in about '91 and we saw some sharks between us and the beach. I know it sounds really crazy and hard to believe, and I wouldn't do it now, but being the indestructible, invincible and very stupid 20 something year olds that we were back in those days we didn't really panic and after a few more waves simply caught the next good one into the beach. I shudder to think about this now and am just telling my Mum here at the same time as typing this out. Mum is absolutely horrified and is going mad on me right now hahaha. Unfortunately, there have been a few shark attacks at Balian over recent years, however thankfully none have been fatal. Interestingly also is the fact that four of the five shark attacks that have ever occurred on Bali actually happened at Balian, the other somewhere at Tabanan which is very close I know but I just forget that story?! Interestingly also, the first of the four shark attacks at Balian was only back in 2010. We were staying at Medewi at the time of that one and word travelled so very quickly and we knew within hours. I remember everyone was so surprised because for decades we all just thought that the sharks around Bali were too well fed to come in close to shore for a feed. Well, saving my best memories for last... ahh... Pantai Soan Galuh... I actually have some beautiful photos somewhere amongst my photos in a box back in Bali of my friends (many of whom have passed away, God rest their soul) and me in those very caves exploring and also trying to help one another climb up onto those odd looking rocks. It most certainly is a beautiful spot and still is thank goodness! Actually, Winny, I remember standing exactly where you were on the rocks there as the waves were coming in with an incoming tide and jumping off onto the sand in between waves and running up into the cave before the next wave came in. I wish so much that I could have those years back again :(.

    There's been a few shark bites there. Its dangerous after the rains make the water rush out & the water is muddy. Bull sharks are looking for food coming out of the river.

    Yes! on the other channel but I would suggest more than just the same old cooking and eating of food - I already call TH-cam 'ChewTube' - rather also include food related background information on things such as the types of rice, the rice goddess, ritual foods, dining etiquette etc.
    How about also delving a bit deeper into the culture, traditions and architecture of Bali, on either channel, e.g. the making, contents and placement of offerings, the different types of shrines and temples and the unanswered tourists' questions such as Can I stand on those old offerings on the ground? What's with the split gateways? Why does that temple building have so many roofs? Why are there steps up and back down at my villa's gate? What was that street parade last week all about? What's an Ogoh Ogoh? What are the faces on those masks? Why do the kites make a noise? What's with the black and white cloth on that statue etc. etc. Some subjects like these could be an in-depth weekly/monthly special perhaps.
    I already know the answers to some of these things because I'm curious, and I've had the time to research them, but I have a lot more to learn and I, and most of the viewers I'm sure, would be interested to get the information and insight direct from Winnie instead of from Wikipedia :)

    Ahh... made from cincau hijau, I like it with very thick coconut milk and lots brown sugar. Decadent.. but hey YOLO. Haha. Caves.. I think its nicer at Green Balls ... And yes, you're right, do not explore these cliffside beaches without a guide unless you're a strong swimmer. The tide will be in before you know it.

    • @TheMonkeys
      @TheMonkeys  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Bro Terubong! Ha I used to explore without guide even I can’t swim.. but that’s was before I knew Winny. Oh well 22 or 23yo still young and stupid right

      @@TheMonkeys Yeah, we all do stupid things when young, luckily most of us survived. That's why there's a minimum age of 25 to rent a car in the USA during my time. Not sure about now. Guess at 25 we think slightly better.

    still a lot of sharks, in human form. Lovina and West Bali, no city slicker tourism, just raw natural Bali beauty with plenty of Authentic local and Balinese Culture, that is my kind of holiday.

    Some parts of Bali like West Bali need to stay untouched. Not touristy but has its own beauty. Yes definitely the first beach much nicer and cleaner!
