I'm not even a hiker but I enjoyed the calm and (seemingly) honest experience you have had and shared with everyone. I have traveled a lot with a backpack in several parts of the world (each time for 1 month). I've used one backpack for 9 years, it still smells like fish sauce in some place due to it having been thrown in the back of a mini van (in what I assume to be a puddle of fish sauce). It has withstood a lot of abuse over those years and while it definitely has some scuffs, discolorations, a little bit of sag, etc, it has not malfunctioned at all. All the zippers and straps etc still are and work perfectly fine. I'm talking about a regular trekking bag here, not an ultralight. The brand is Deuter (it's quite well known in Europe, I don't know about the US).

Thanks for the kind words!! I love getting constructive feedback, so keep it coming! Sounds like that pack has been around the block! And I have heard of Deuter and I’ve heard great things 🙂. Thanks for watching!!

What I learned is that you shouldn't get a frameless backpack unless you are well under 10 lb base weight and are using around a 35-40L pack. When you need bear protection and to carry a lot of food and water, even at 10lb it just isn't comfortable - 55l frameless backpacks should not be a thing, learned that the hard way 😂

I’ve heard similar things as well! So far mine has been great for me, but I can for sure see how it would get uncomfortable. Thanks for watching! 🙂

I like Seek Outside packs. A little heaver, but a good sturdy pack that puts the weight where you can carry it. I have a Flight 3 and a Divide (older version).

I’m a big fan of the MLD prophet. Ample room for a ultralight load and the pockets (side) can be reached with the pack on. Not a fan of the way ZPACKS handled your situation. Thank you, for introducing me to a new company.

Thanks for the comment!! I have not heard of that pack before but I looked into it and it looks great! Glad you like it! And yeah, I was not a big fan either! Glad you enjoyed the video 🙂

Sorry to hear about your negative experience with the ZPacks backpack and it's understandable for you to switch over to try other brands. Maybe at some point in the future you'll want to consider trying their packs again. The achievement of such ultralight weight in a pack definitely has a trade-off against durability.

Thanks so much for this comment! Yeah it was definitely a bummer and I’m sad that it happened. I might consider going back in the future but I am happy with what I have now :). Durability is absolutely a trade off with ultralight backpacks! Thanks for watching and thank you for the awesome comment!!

Unfortunately, I have seen many hiking videos like this--overpriced ultralight item unacceptably fails, boutique manufacturer delivers sub-par consumer experience. A $400 pack can't take 20 miles of normal use?? That is clearly some kind of defect and the response should have been full replacement without hassle.

Wow! Bummer that there are a lot of videos like this out there. Yeah I was not a huge fan of the experience either, but we live and we learn! Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment!
